Shatur,

I’m sure you could find a lot more than 3 linux distros that perform similarly.

That’s obvious, I assume that they tested what they use.

Shatur,

Cool! There are many RK3566 devices out there. If Powkiddy X55 will get it, other devices (like RG353PS) will work with mainline kernel too.

Shatur, (edited )

I don’t think they criticize people for using Windows. I bet that no one wanted to offend you.

People do criticize Windows itself and I think it’s okay.

Shatur,

I think you can find some jerks in any community, it’s people. But I doubt that GNU/Linux enthusiasts hate people for using Windows in general. I personally a GNU/Linux user and I never hate people for using Windows.

It’s just like Reddit - they have more content, but we prefer Lemmy because of freedom. And we hate Reddit (and spez), not it’s users.

Shatur, (edited )

Unfortunately, there aren’t much phones that can run mainline Linux and have all hardware working. Most phones use stripped down Android running in container to use Android drivers to talk to hardware.

Should I install Linux on my smartphone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) smartphone which currently has the stock Samsung Android OS installed on it. I wanted to install an Android “distro” that doesn’t spy on me, like Graphene OS, but I couldn’t find a ROM for it. Since I would probably need to compile AOSP from source code anyways, I though, why not install...

Shatur,

I daily drive GNU/Linux on my Phone (PinePhone Pro), I would say it usable, but Android is way more practical.

Also not a lot of devices can run GNU/Linux and have fully functional HW due to missing drivers. And only 3 phones of them can run mainline kernel.

Waydroid works fine, I use it for banking apps, but it’s a bit slow on my specific device.

Shatur,

Wow, 1M it’s a lot! I wish we could have more organizations like this in more countries.

Shatur, (edited )

I see how it can be convenient for some distros to get the latest version or install something that is not in the official repo.

But I use ArchLinux and we always have latest versions and big repo + AUR, so I never used universal packages.

Shatur, (edited )

I like Cinny!

I wish they it had group calls support. I would use it instead of Element.

Shatur,

It’s sad to hear. I believe that healthy discussion should always be welcomed even if you disagree. And hateful things should always be discouraged.

Shatur,

Maybe it’s the plan? First post memes with stock photos with no content, and then start posting actual memes about it?

Shatur, (edited )

So, either defederate yourselves from lemmy.ml (nobody would do that), or fork lemmy into a new clean place (not impossible, but difficult to perform)

How forking will help in any way?

Shatur,

In fact, the lemmy.ml admins/devs are admin on lemmygrad.ml

Why do you think so? Can you prove it?

Shatur, (edited )

Lemmy.ml is the first instance, but I don’t see any evidence that lemmygrad.ml had the same IP address. Where did you get this from?

Shatur,

Original PinePhone is also overpriced. For 200$ you can buy way more powerful Android device :( I think it’s because the production volume is less than other large companies have and because Pine64 don’t sell any data.

Shatur,

But Pro costs 400$. I have both PP and PPP. Maybe it depends on the person, but for me the PP is too slow, I can’t use as my main phone. When I had the opportunity, I bought PPP and daily drive it now.

Also the same company sells similar hardware for half the price

You mean that Pine64 sell PP and PPP? I wouldn’t say “similar hardware” in this case. Pro have way faster CPU, better camera, faster emmc, better screen glass.

Shatur,

It doesn’t cost 400$. That’s the price before taxes, shipping and import duty. The official pine64eu store has the real price which is 592.50€ I mean is that if they can sell the Pinebook Pro with the same SoC and a PP with a nearly identical hardware other than the SoC each for a bit more than 200$

If you using the official pine64eu store, then PP costs 339.00€. It’s not “a bit more then 200$”. I’m not from EU, so I used their global store (pine64.com). And it’s 200$ and 400$. It’s unfair to compare the price from the EU store for PPP with the price of PP from the global one. And the hardware is not nearly identical, I pointed it out just above. Also forgot to mention faster RAM (LPDDR4 vs LPDDR3 SDRAM) and 1 extra Gb.

Are these phone overpriced? Sure. But I disagree that PPP is more overpriced then PP. They have the same kind of overprice 😅 I would even recommend PPP over PP. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t buy PP.

Shatur, (edited )

No, they have the same battery and Pro is hungrier.

Pro Lasts about 2 hours of active use for me.

Shatur,

Are there maybe reasons for it? Sure, licensing expensive but pointless Gorrilla glass and other such non-sense does rise the price

I think the biggest reason is more powerful hardware. More expensive glass sure contributes to the price, but I don’t think it’s much.

but it doesn’t change the fact that the PPP is vastly overpriced, while the PP was originally not (these days it is, but that’s just because it still has the same price as half a decade ago).

Braveheart edition was released in 2020. In this year you could buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 for $140.00. It’s so much better deal the PinePhone. GNU/Linux phones are always overpriced due to the reasons I mentioned above.

Shatur, (edited )

Yes, I know about the Konami code. I tried to enter it, but achievements for bosses and lives were not counted.

Shatur, (edited )

You are right, not the Konami code, it’s 9 lives + stage select. I tried it too, but after this the achievements are not counted after it for some reason.

RetroAchievements is a service with community-made achievements for retro games. Many emulators supports it. You can login and play as usual to earn them. There is also a hardcode mode when loading states and other emulator advantages are disabled, so you have to beat it as it was on the original hardware.

What are some good somewhat older smartwatches that have a heart rate sensor and work with modern versions of Android?

I have been using a Pebble Time Steel for years even after their acquisition by Garmin Someone corrected me it was FitBit not Garmin thanks to Rebble, a modded firmware that gives it new life, but I would like a smartwatch that can track my heart rate....

Shatur,

I daily drive it for almost 2 years. Can totally recommend. With the latest firmware it lasts half a month for me.

Shatur,

I would recommend generating your passwords and storing them in a local password manager like KeePassXC. This way, you only need to remember one password from the database itself and you will not worry if any website leaks its database since all your passwords are unique.

Shatur,

I’ve heard about it, but never played it. I’ll try!

Shatur,

By the way, did you know that there is an unofficial port of Sonic for NES? I played it when I was a kid.

Shatur,

I thought that Somari was a hack for the Sonic port :) But yes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffb-Bwbl4M8

Shatur,

It’s Samsung Dex Station.

Shatur,

It’s 8BitDo SN30 Pro.

Shatur,

Yes, I daily drive it. As for me it’s usable. My main complain is the battery life. With active usage it lasts only about 2 hours. But without active it saves power well, thanks too recent megi work.

Shatur,

Oh, yes! BTW, for the first game there is a series of achievements called “The Adventures of Chip ‘n’ Doll” where you need to carry 2 player with you without hurting him or losing a life. Never tried myself, but sounds fun.

Shatur,

Thanks! It’s Vortex Tab 90.

Shatur,

in every other country where communism is/was

There is not a single country that has achieved communism.

Shatur, (edited )

Then what is it? A teapot in the sky?

In such countries there was/is socialism. They only tried/trying to build communism. This is a common misconception.

If it’s a viable plan which can be realized, then how to achieve it, without killing people and creating a dictatorship? Is it possible?

I don’t know. But I doubt that the state will give up its powers without any fight.

Shatur, (edited )

It is incorrect to say that there was/is communism in the country. There are only countries that trying/tried building communism.

In every other country ruled by communists saying they are building communism, banning every other political party then the communist one, killing people in the name of communism

Having a single party is the one of several approaches. But the only one that survived. I think the idea is that you don’t need other parties if you building communism (like why do you need any liberal party driven by rich people?). And It’s not like regular people can’t join this party (unlike now when only rich people can be in politics).

proof of that it’s not really possible.

I’m not saying that it’s possible, but I wouldn’t say that it’s impossible given a certain level of technology.

Shatur,

Thanks, also using it this way right now! Lemmy have a great web version!
