Pretty much the title. I’ve been watching more realistic super hero shows like The Boys and Invincible. The reoccurring themes is that with great power comes great immorality....
Ok so I’ve been wondering how other people do this. I’ve heard so many different takes on how to use dried mushrooms but I have no idea which is the best way. What I’ve been doing is using dried shitake mushrooms, washing and cutting them into small slices, then putting them in a small bowl of water in the fridge to rehydrate for at least 30 minutes, then, after adding the seasoning to the ramen pot, I dump both the mushrooms and the water they were soaked in into the broth. I don’t know how much flavor it adds tho. How have you been doing it? And what mushrooms?
I mean, different people have different emotional responses to things. Something that makes you completely break down and sob won’t break a frown on someone else.
I liked this a lot! For a short story like this the plot was quite good, and I loved that twist at the end, wraps the story up really well. All in all this was pretty well done!
I really like the concept you had with the perspective shifts as the story goes on. Going from first personal to 3rd to 1st again, felt like a camera shifting during a movie. Very excellently done, and pretty creative too! Never seen that before I can say. The majority of the story is really good plot wise! The characters are characterized very well, and the story is very wholesome. That being said, I’m not the biggest fan of the voice and tone of the last half of the story. In concept it’s pretty good, but I don’t think it keeps the same vibe and themes the rest of the story had.
In any case, it’s definitely a great story and I’m pretty impressed by it! Thanks for writing.
I left it vague so as to give as much creative freedom to anyone wanting to respond as possible. If you really want me to answer those questions though, I can
To nearby towns and villages within (a probably backwater region of) the existing kingdom that the tribe lives in. Alternatively, directly to the capital of the kingdom, to declare their own sovereignty and Independence.
what was the conclusion of the civil war?
The old chieftan, a brutal and authoritarian warlord and dictator, was killed and his allies and faction either executed or exiled. In the resulting power vacuum, the rebels decided to establish a democratically elected government. If you want me to elaborate I can.
are they sending delegations to their friends or adversaries in other parts of the former goblin empire?
I hadn’t thought of there being a goblin empire! It sounds super interesting so if you want to do it, go ahead, but in my own head I imagined a small, local tribe of maybe 30 or 40 at most, though more like 10 to 18. They probably would send delegations to other goblin tribes they’re aware of, to probably try and mend bad relations their former chief caused.
or was the goblin situation reunified and allied against some other horrible dickheads way over there who are also goblins?
Also very interesting take, because I hadn’t thought of that! Leaving prompts more ambiguous than not leads to authors coming up with their own takes on things, just like this :) I don’t have an answer to this because I don’t imagine goblins being that organized to have colonies ruled by far off rulers, but if that’s what comes to your mind, I’d love to read about it.
Not too sure how I feel about this one. It reads like a journal entry describing these events instead of a story taking place during them. It is a way to tell stories, though I’m personally not a fan because it’s hard to attach myself to what’s going on. Is this part of a larger series? There’s a lot of neat ideas going on in here, and the plot points and events that occur sound really cool to read more about.
Like leafling said, this is pretty good! I like the shortform, dialogue only take on this, very different from most responses which usually describe things in detail. Instead of showing or telling, you let things be and communicate them through the dialogue. It reminds me a lot of how plays are written.
As an aside, I want to comment on something. It feels like the “shadow” was trying to goad the protagonist into killing them from the very beginning. The first line, “Come on, do it” paired with the last line, “I guess you are getting what you want” kind of hint at that. Dunno if that’s what you were intending, but I found that very, very cool.
I really like this take on the prompt! The whole time I thought it was some futuristic sci Fi world where humans relied on technology too much (despite the now obvious hints). Loved the fact that Josh’s speech shattered my perception of the world as it reveals exactly who the protagonist is. Especially loved how Kevin’s internal thoughts consume the story, you did an excellent job showing the world through his perspective of things!
