selokichtli,

I’ve been told that in Telegram you can find bots to download music from Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Deezer. Probably Spotify too, but those are the ones I know.

selokichtli,

Not the case of these at all. The quality is incomparable.

selokichtli,

If by “God” you mean an intelligence and power that created everything, including us, no I do not. I don’t think any intelligence or wisdom is enough to create this thing called universe or these bunch of universes. To me “intelligence” is a tool developed by some live beings in order to succeed and prosper in the world, not a tool to create and maintain universes.

US approves sending F-16s to Ukraine from Denmark and Netherlands (www.reuters.com)

“I am writing to express the United States’ full support for both the transfer of F-16 fighter aircraft to Ukraine and for the training of Ukrainian pilots by qualified F-16 instructors […] It remains critical that Ukraine is able to defend itself against ongoing Russian aggression and violation of its sovereignty” said...

selokichtli,

Yeah, you had me until “… or most arms trade would mostly cease to exist”.

selokichtli,

No, they don’t. You don’t even need blood samples to begin with. But even if you did, you don’t need any DNA from the other passengers to confirm Prigozhin’s remains. Also, it’s not quick, it’s a reasonable window of time.

selokichtli,

The whole Elvis journey again. Let’s hope it ends better for Gacek.

selokichtli,

Firefox is not a worse browser, it’s just the lack of visibility. You have to want to install Firefox to try it, the only exception I know it’s in Linux where most of the time it’s the default browser. Google Chrome, on the other hand, is promoted each time you search anything in Google without Google Chrome.

selokichtli,

I wouldn’t say it’s a problem for me but I see what you see. We have to be patient, building a community is one of those things that you have to do carefully, taking your time.

I don’t know if you tried in other instances. I just subscribed to many more communities than I did in Reddit, no matter the instance.

selokichtli,

But they are all in a hard position right now. RedReader, for example, still works in Reddit but the developer is trying to make it work for Lemmy or make a version for Lemmy, I don’t know the specifics. The thing is, they do not feel safe/commited to develop the app for Reddit.

selokichtli,

It’s still not click and play, but most of the time it is. I wish companies stopped shipping game launchers, I’ve been pulling hairs with 2K, tweaking here and there to be able to launch a game.

selokichtli, (edited )

More like OpenOffice. It still has some power on its branding, but new users should stay away from it and go for LibreOffice, that is any other main distro (Arch, openSUSE, Linux Mint, Debian, etc.). There’s nothing exciting happening in Ubuntu anymore, but a lot of people still know its name.

selokichtli,

I use Linux in all my machines, currently: LMDE, Debian, Arch, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Fedora and Linux Mint. Yeah, I just realized I stopped using Ubuntu a couple of years ago.

selokichtli, (edited )

Is that an accident, though?

selokichtli,

From scratch it would take several years. At least in my country, to train a pilot you have to go to the Military Air Force School to complete an 8 semester long career that won’t necessarily grant you a position as a pilot. Of course, with constrained times of war, this can be achieved in less than 4 years, but 1 year seems like a stretch. Now, if you have a vast disposal of trained pilots, I guess you can make it in one year or even less, depending on several factors. The problem is I don’t find stats about this case, and even if there are a lot of Ukrainian pilots ready to fly, they are probably not seasoned in combat.

Why is it frowned upon here to 'steal' content from reddit?

If anything, shouldn’t it be encouraged, and even automated? I’m including even the ‘old’ stuff from reddit here. Reddit shouldn’t be the absolute owner of the content submitted by users. When I migrated here, it wasn’t because of me being against reddit users, but being against reddit the company. Copying the...

selokichtli,

Not automated, but if you see something there that brings something on the table, by all means post it here. There’s nothing you can really steal from Reddit, and even if there was, go ahead and make it impossible to catch you. Companies like that don’t deserve any considerations from regular guys like us.

selokichtli,

Nice way to start the day. Thank you.

selokichtli,

Honest questions. Why do you seem unable to change anything of this? If you leave in a democratic country, why the majority of people won’t change the second amendment, the college tuition scam, swap to a free healthcare system, and vote people that won’t start another war in the name of democracy?

EDIT: I reckon is complicated, but you must have some opinions about the final motive(s) of this. Who/what is keeping things like this?

selokichtli,

Okay, but why do you not take a more radical approach? I mean, Trump followers were not right, but even they took the capitol by assault to accomplish essentially nothing. Most of these things exposed in this thread seem to me like legitimate causes to emulate some Malcolm X-esque actions.

selokichtli,

So, in your opinion, what are the conditions the US people wait/need to start this revolution? What’s holding people back? The newer generations seem to have almost nothing to loose, and a lot of older people barely can keep up.

selokichtli,

So is it fair to say that most of the American people, dissatisfied with their political system, are afraid to actually change it?

Don’t take me wrong, I absolutely understand this, and appreciate you taking the time to answer to my questions.

selokichtli,

That’s sad in all cases. Thank you for taking the time to share your point of view.

selokichtli,

It’s nice to find this discourse in the American people for a change. Good luck with your own fights.

selokichtli,

IIRC they did publish their encryption protocol, at least a lot of information about it is here. It’s true E2EE is not enabled by default.

In the end, both encryption protocols are hidden. We can’t really be sure they use what they say they are using in both cases.

selokichtli, (edited )

Yeah, yeah, it’s all about the creators’ well being.

selokichtli,

My wallet would support Steam if it had any sort of bills in it. Lenovo is a lousy company in the gadgets market. I own a marvelous Yoga Tab 3 Pro with an Intel Atom CPU and a built-in projector. An expensive device that received the one clunky Android upgrade and no source code. I modded the firmware enough to make it still usable, but God, do I hate their “support” service. Good riddance!

selokichtli,

Oh, that’s why I moved from W10. My audio card refused to work with this OS. The solution: go back to W8.1 which I just skipped as hell. I could never get rid of that problem in W10, BSOD as soon as it rebooted into W10. No matter what I tried, couldn’t debug the problem. Fuck it, Linux may be complicated, but at least you end up knowing what’s going on. I can’t go back to not knowing.

selokichtli,

Now that I think about it, I haven’t used Google in a while, not even as a bang in DDG.

selokichtli,

Do you mean that Fedora users should question if they want to keep using this distro? Because I do use Fedora, and I understand I’m “beta-testing” an enterprise product, but yeah, for me this changes my “relationship” with Red Hat. Or what do you mean?

selokichtli,

TIL

selokichtli,

I was just following the joke. Linux, the kernel and Linus Sebastian are probably the same age, from my point of view (yeah, I’m old).

selokichtli,

Just the Oracle Red Hat clone, because, well, Oracle. Also those distros that disappear spontaneously because they were mainly maintained by one person only.

What is your unbiased opinion on Manjaro?

I am a Linux noobie and have only used Mint for around six months now. While I have definitely learned a lot, I don’t have the time to always be doing crazy power user stuff and just want something that works out of the box. While I love Mint, I want to try out other decently easy to use distros as well, specifically not based...

selokichtli,

TBH, if you don’t have bleeding edge hardware just stay with OPENSUSE Leap, Debian Stable, Linux Mint or LMDE. If you are feeling adventurous, even Slackware will cover your back most of the time and gives you more bragging rights than Arch. Even if you have bleeding edge hardware, you are better off with OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, Fedora and Arch.

Manjaro is just not that stable. It once was the only way to install an Arch-ish system without having to go through the hassle of the official Arch installation guide, but currently there are several options to avoid this guide and still have a vanilla Arch system. That’s how I used Manjaro for a brief period. The tools I remember they provide, or even better alternatives, are in the Arch User Repo (AUR) anyway, available for all Arch-like distro users. Maybe the only exception to this is the wide catalog of kernels that Manjaro provides, but an equally extensive catalog is available for Arch users through official and third-party repos and the AUR.

Manjaro is not quite exciting but also not quite stable. I think it’s a distro most people get by accident.

selokichtli,

You don’t need security updates when you are using the latest version of a package. That’s the security model that all rolling release distros use. Security comes from upstream development, from devs patching their software as soon as they find vulnerabilities. If this is more or less secure than the Debian Stable approach is up for your use case.

selokichtli,

I didn’t say it was a rolling release distro. The security model of their packages is one of a rolling release distro but the distribution is unstable, not rolling. The thing I find plainly absurd is to ask a security repo from the unstable branch of a distro, or from a rolling release distro.

selokichtli,

I do find it odd, too. Like, so many things feel off in the photo. Not only the hair and the blur, but the cat is literally posing for the camera, as well as the soldier whom, by the way, looks stunning in their uniform and make-up. I’m not declaring it is AI generated, but I don’t think it’s a “baseless” proposition.

Anyway, peace for Ukraine and Russia can’t come fast enough.

selokichtli,

It’s way better than the relative numbers of Threads. I expect a decline of active users, since a lot of Reddit users registered to a Lemmy instance expecting a similar experience that couldn’t be fulfilled. It will stabilize and grow up again with peaks when, for example, old.reddit.com is ditched.

Used Windows today since months

I started daily driving Linux since I left school this year and used it before but mainly windows because school wanted us to run Word, Teams, etc. Today I wanted to play games and haven’t set up my device for gaming and didn’t want to download the game twice (good internet). Like a good PC user I wanted to do my updates. It...

selokichtli,

I think it is more gentle when you actually use the OS, but OP says they don’t use it a lot. I basically don’t use Windows a lot for so many reasons, but in the odd occasion I need to use it, it’s like OP’s experience. There are so many updates and the thing insists on installing them, or you think it’s gonna be okay to install them --accostumed to pacman, apt or whatever. If you agree or click on Install updates as they recommend, there you go into the rabbit hole of Windows updates.

selokichtli,

Maybe he did stumble home from the bar each night you found him like that. How’s his water consumption?

Shifted to MX Linux, based on Debian, with Xfce desktop. Looks not bad in my opinion, but let's see how it goes. @thelinuxEXP @linux @Linux @debian

selokichtli,

I transitioned from MX Linux to Debian without reinstalling the whole thing, since there is a Nextcloud instance running in that server and I’m not an expert on that kind of setup. I know it’s not recommended, and upgrading to Debian 12 wasn’t pleasant, but it seems like it’s full Debian now.

Don’t understand the MX Linux popularity in distrowatch, for example. While MX Linux, there was always some problem, now that it is Debian stable, it works and does not break.

selokichtli,

Mexico, too. First time I felt the internet was a part of the real world. Took a couple of months but they even sent stickers!

selokichtli,

A lot of distros already implement different methods to avoid this. There are already comments about a couple of methods, timeshift is another one, it’s pushed heavily by Linux Mint, for example.

selokichtli,

If the average user doesn’t need some specific products, yes. Gaming is not an issue anymore. You are only constrained by products that can’t run on a browser and lazy ass companies like Adobe.
