Well, there’s your problem right there. You go in expecting to be rejected and it’s probably going to happen. It’s cliche but true, be confident, don’t be desperate, just be present. Talk to women like they’re men, they’re really not any different. Don’t go into it looking for a relationship, just go into these things to meet new people and see what happens.

Society and social groups will convince you there’s a “right time” for everything. There isn’t. We all find our own path, there’s no right or wrong way about it.

YouTube once again ahead of uBO on Firefox; fiddling with the extension settings not working this time and DDG search is useless ... anyone got ideas?

Pretty much the subject line. uBO has successfully blocked the nag screen enough times that I can’t play anything at this point. No preview loads, and the play button serves no function. I’d really prefer not to have to find content on YT, copy the URL and use Piped/Invidious, but this ongoing escalation is steeling my...

Men (and granted I am male) really do need to drop the alpha male stuff. It’s a shame so many men are drawn into this weird mentality on YouTube thinking that’s what is going to get them a girl… When really it’s the furthest from the truth.

I met my wife at work, made some awkward jokes with her, and eventually asked her out. We split everything a perfect 50/50 and I’m proud to say she is a strong independent woman who definitely does not need me. I can’t imagine the disrespect she would feel if all of a sudden I went all alpha.

Yep. I like computer gear. The worst gifts are some niche crap like weird USB drives that I don’t need. Slightly better are gift cards to Best buy - but really the gear I need you can’t find there.

Socks are universal. Socks are love. Give me socks, then I don’t have to spend my money on socks.

Any of the ‘fad’ diets. No, carbs aren’t evil. Protien isn’t evil. You didn’t magically lose weight by “not eating carbs”. You lost weight because you cut out an entire food group from your diet - you were eating less. Otherwise just known as dieting. Make it easier on yourself and just limit your calorie intake. That’s pretty much it.

You can eat pizza and still be dieting. You may be eating 1 slice for an entire meal because it’s just a calorie dump, but you can do it.

it would be good to know if they use it, I know it doesn’t indicate they are open source (which, most online stores aren’t), but if they use any open source library, or api, etc, do they credit them correctly? (for example using software licensed under BSD, etc). That can be a way of knowing if they are stealing other...

I have one on my phone, but that’s because the screen is constantly exposed. In my pocket, thrown on a desk, next to keys, etc. On a deck I don’t think it’s necessary as long as you’re using the case. Just put it in it’s case when you’re done, keep the little screen protector it comes with on top of it and you’ll be golden

Thank god I have a local company that provides fiber now, and they don’t seem to care about invetigations into pricing. Fuck Xfinity (the brand formally known as Comcast), fuck Spectrum, Mediacom, all of them.

Honestly if they stuck, and I mean actually stuck to "You know what, one ad, beginning of the video, unskippable, and the rest of the video (and content below, and everything) will be ad free until you start a new video - I’d do it. I’d honestly be okay with that. But it’s just so overbearing, everywhere is meant to draw your eye to ads, so no, I’ll do everything I can to get around them.

My favorite I had to unlearn was washing maching. Pronounced w-or-shing machine. Like “war shing”. Apparently that’s a Dutch/Midwest mix.

OK Microsoft... trying to log into Teams while work lapop updates to Windows 11. No longer works in any iPhone browser, including Edge. The app will not authenticate my work login. (lemmy.world)

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐...

Didn’t you know? With Microsoft products those trackers are required. The app just wouldn’t be able to function if they couldn’t track everything you typed into it. You should really be more thoughtful of Microsoft and how you’re being a big meany by not giving them your data.

Folks, seriously though, things are going to get very exciting very quickly. It’s fun to get on the hype train, I know I will, but please remember that this will be another game. Marketers are going to try to tell us they redefined gaming but they didn’t. Don’t let the hype get so high that it ruins the experience because nothing can live up to your hopes.

Get excited, but have realistic expectations. That’ll be the best way to enjoy the game.

Exactly this. Valve made the decision for 800p for a number of factors, one of the biggest was performance. We’ve all been there where we upgrade to a sexy new monitor and immediately realized we need a new GPU. This is the same, except we can’t upgrade the GPU. I’ll stick with this where I’m happy.

oh my god I owe you a huge apology.

So first, I thought you had somehow never seen this meme, and I was like “What, this meme has been along much longer”, and now after going through yeah I don’t know which meme came first, and I was all proud of myself in a stupid way and said “Here, look, the meme you said you couldn’t find”, but you weren’t talking about the meme, you were talking about the line in the meme.

Which brings me to, holy shit yeah that never happened. I just went and rewatched. I think I (and RvB fans in general) get hung up on the Dooooom bit, because Doc does say that… but not there. That’s where I have the strong memory, Doc (O’Malley really), says Doooom and I can clearly remember him saying it with his inflection.

The “interaction” in the meme “happens” in S2E18 “Blunderball” and they never even talk. It’s just O’Malley talking to himself about ripping out entrails and how they taste like Redbull and Donut overhears him.

So, anyway, huge apology, I’m sorry, I was wrong. The last panel is what trips me up, and I think I may actually watch it through again to try and find where that comes from, but the entire meme is a weird fabricated amalgamation of stuff.

For large groups absolutely, chat moves so fast that there’s no way that it can mean anything. Trying to get help in a gaming discord is just terrible.

However for a small group of friends it’s great, using discord for what it was meant to be used for (chatting with friends about games, setting up gaming nights, voice chat) is perfect.

I didn’t even think about the personal risk, which I do know because I run a lemmy instance. You hit the nail on the head, I either see it as:

  • Individual creators host their own, where they can host all they want, but there is no money to be made, in fact there is only money to be lost, so it’d end up being an insane amount of ads and sponsored content
  • Group servers like we have, but they’re only good until a tipping point to be honest, if they started getting a fraction of youtube content we’ll see them lock down uploads, and most will shut down if they get hit by one of the acronym agencies.

I love the fediverse, but I was a professional in the video world too, and video is heavy. Everything about it is crazy, take all the scaling problems and quadruple them. I hope peertube can find something that works
