spaduf,

I think it’s telling that flipboard’s received a fairly welcoming reaction from the larger fediverse, while threads had huge backlash. Meta and their practices were always the problem.

spaduf,

Is that the one where we got to watch his Ayahuasca trip cause of so I almost say it was worth it just for that.

What are your favorite fonts for technical reports?

I work at a consulting engineering firm and write a lot of reports that are read by the public. I have an opportunity to recommend a different font for all of our written documents and am looking for something more modern/fresh than Times New Roman. Also open to recommendations for purpose specific communities about...

spaduf,

I’ve recently become a proponent of Atkinson Hyperlegible (while discovering I have some vision issues). Not sure if it’s appropriate in your industry, but the improvements to accessibility are hard to argue with.

spaduf,

It’s hard to explain exactly why but switching my ereader over made a night and day difference in my comprehension and reading speed.

Starfield design lead says players are "disconnected" from how games are actually made: "Don't fool yourself into thinking you know why it is the way it is" (www.gamesradar.com)

apparently this is in response to a few threads on Reddit flaming Starfield—in general, it’s been rather interesting to see Bethesda take what i can only describe as a “try to debate Starfield to popularity” approach with the game’s skeptics in the past month or two. not entirely sure it’s a winning strategy,...

spaduf,

who overnight know intricacies of engines

To be fair, this is an old, old engine with several generation defining blockbusters making use of it. Not to mention the massive modding communities who’ve probably spent more collective hours fighting with the engine over the past few years than Bethesda has.

spaduf,

Hadn’t noticed that. Certainly seems to take the teeth out of it

spaduf,

Anybody start playing with it yet?

spaduf,

Woops looks like crossposting is broken on my mobile app. Fixed now

spaduf,

Eternity got the strike through but not the subscript

spaduf,

I’ve only ever found one channel (tilvids.com/accounts/alliterative) that does this sort of short form content, but it feels right at home in my Mastodon feed.

spaduf,

Captain Disillusion! More VFX than anything else. He debunks viral videos and explains how the effects are achieved.

Has a date, or ETA been announced, or rumored for the release of Lemmy 0.19?

I hope that this post doesn’t come across as impatient, or demanding – I fully understand that Lemmy is donation funded, and is created out of the benevolence of the devs. I am merely curious if any announcement has been made in regards to a specific ETA. I am certainly excited for its release, but I also completely...

The scaled sort needs more balance between top and new

was looking forward to the scaled sort but I’m not happy with the implementation, it looks too much like the new sort. In fact I’ve seen the exact same posts when sorting by new and scaled. I wish scaled sort was a more balanced version of top that gives more weight to small communities but not so much as to only show small...

spaduf,

This may change once more people are actually using it. As of this post it was probably only a handful of instances seeing those posts at all

spaduf,

Some other instances that have come to mind:
slrpnk.net - Seems like something of a natural fit considering they are also the home of !twoxchromosomes which is roughly the same size and number of active users
lemmy.world - This is a fairly general community and so it makes some sense to be on a fairly general instance

spaduf,

It’s very possible this will change once this rolls out more broadly simply because the overall activity on smaller communities will increase substantially. I suspect a lot of people will make it a habit to check this sort but the overall size of these communities will probably not see a huge increase.

ShoeOnHead primarily produces rightwing dogwhistle content. Her videos are generally not welcome here.

EDIT: More info for those curious: rationalwiki.org/wiki/Shoe0nHeadTLDR is that she’s pretty explicitly an antifeminist and has been for as long as she’s been in the public eye (since gamergate).

spaduf,

Are her views/take fairly shallow and easily swayed, has she matured as a person and changed her politics, or is she just an online creator following where the trends are for views?

I don’t think there’s been any significant change in her content. Notable that the person posting the video was a fresh account and that was their first comment.

spaduf,

And calling her “right wing dogwhistle content” is anything but. It’s just a dishonest excuse to discredit her for not perfectly riding the approved narrative.

She’s been producing antifeminist content while calling herself a progressive for a very long time. I fail to see how that’s not right wing dog whistling that is largely incompatible with the goals of this community.

NYT Opinion | Why Aren’t More People Marrying? Ask Women What Dating Is Like. (Gift Link) (www.nytimes.com)

This is a tough piece, one that I share without fully endorsing. It lays out the problems that women experience with some men, like that men are not getting college degrees at the same rate as women or the lack of emotional modelling provided to boys and young men:...

spaduf,

Locking as repost. Previous discussion here: kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/623593

Please feel free to make a new discussion post about some of these ideas

spaduf,

Google paying them an absolute shitload of money (still pretty small compared to what Google pays Apple). It’d be pretty hard to get the donations to make up a missing half billion.

spaduf,

They were probably more swayed by the loss of their upcoming payout than any love for Altman. Increasingly sounds like Ilya just bungled the timing

spaduf, (edited )

Oh man, I’m actually going through a whole mess of shit right now, but this was absolutely not a call for help. Was sick for months culminating in debilitating reactive arthritis and because of this missed out on some time with my grandmother during her last days. We were very close, I had lived with her for a while during my childhood. She just recently passed and it’s been tough, but I’m doing ok all things considered. Thanks for asking.

spaduf,

Are we really worst off without Pop-White-Feminism from a website that made articles about the virtue of beating their boyfriends? Eeerh… I don’t known, I’m not convinced.

This exactly. What’s more is, I think far too much energy has been spent lamenting the loss of Jezebel without working towards a more modern alternative whose roots aren’t firmly in shallow feminism and celebrity gossip. A lot of firms from this last wave of journalistic closures have spun off into things that reveal that the old publishers were one of the biggest problems with the journalism overall (See 404media, who interestingly put out an article much to the same effect as the OP) and from the sounds of it Jezebel was always one of the worst offenders.
