I understand this but at the same time…assigning a “worth” to posts and comments is helpful when it comes to finding useful information. If I am looking to solve a specific issue on an HP Xx.bb.x laptop or how to overcome tennis elbow…there might be 10 Reddit threads asking the same question. 9 of them have a few comments and zero useful information. One comment has a complete fix and is even referred to as the correct answer on other posts.

In a time when Google delivers pages of useless results…designating a post or comment as the “best” is valuable. Highly upvoted comments and posts typically hold good information, or a funny story or something people agree with.

Is it possible for us to have the benefits of voting without the nonsense that comes with it?

Shoutout to Facebook for reminding my wife every year of the day her dad died so she comes home from work crying. 10 years. Every December. 😥

Fuck

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

So…this is very difficult for us and I don’t understand why you felt it was necessary to say that. It would be great if you could mind your own business or just say nice things when someone talks about a family member passing away. 😊

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Ohhhh I gotcha. I’m totally good with that.

Ha…I don’t think Peter Faulk was around for Fred Savage to grow up, sadly. Not the most healthy guy.

Edit: damn.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Wow for some reason I though he died in the 90s

For the longest time I thought this was the way all 4K tvs looked so I avoided getting one. It looks horrible.

mysoulishome,

I appreciate this answer, apparently most don’t

Person named Reality Leigh Winner…somehow that sounds exactly like the name of someone who would leak documents

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Damn what country is this? Can’t be the USA cause we don’t have mental health care.

Sorry…you did not deserve this friend

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Cool that’s awesome that you have good healthcare in New England.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not sure what you’re saying.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I don’t know. Everywhere I’ve lived in the US you couldn’t even get institutionalized in a shitty facility unless you have insurance that will cover it or money to pay for it. They send people who need mental help out into the population because they are poor. Kids with emotional problems get ignored and shoot up their schools. But what do I know, I’m utterly naive.

Carrot has ads? I’ve used it since it came out and the only ads I’m aware of are the fake funny ones you can opt in to

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

I am with you on subscriptions but the free version of Carrot is fully functional with no ads, limitations include things like only one weather data source instead of multiple to choose from, a few seconds of radar rather than a longer animation. All of the things you have to pay for are things that actually cost the developer money. Without paying anything it’s still one of the best Weather apps in my opinion.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Haha yeah the joke ads are actually optional, I turn them on because they are funny.

I would pay for premium carrot if I wasn’t on a budget…apps like weather underground and weather channel are fucking hideous nowadays with the ads. The dev of carrot is just one guy and pretty cool, always answers tweets snd emails, used to show up on Reddit to chat with people (maybe still does - I will never know). I wouldn’t feel bad giving him a couple bucks a month.

At this point I limit myself to 1 or 2 app subscriptions at most. I paid for Apollo when it was alive…I paid for an annual of Day One this year because journaling helps with my therapy. But what I pay for is going to be very limited to a couple of things I support or have some reason to support the specific service or developer. The tapbot guy who made Tweetie and revolutionized Twitter clients, or the dev of Alien Blue back in the day are more good examples. Just good apps and good people doing good work.

Most of these apps are just trash and the subscriptions HIGHLY outweigh the value of what they offer pretty damn quickly….they cross their fingers and hope people don’t cancel the trial. It’s a crappy way to make money.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

My question is what do you mean exactly by “create”? Like…print? Design? Photoshop?

For print anywhere local is fine. Ordering online is ok but time crunch and shipping costs…

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Windows is phasing out the built in mail app which is basic but decent…forcing “upgrade” to Outlook which has ads if you’re not a paid user.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

This is beautiful

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah my wife and both kids let these little hover flies crawl on them while we are watching outdoor sports or whatever. They like to land on you and drink your sweat. They’ll give them names and sit with one on them for an hour and act sad when they leave.

I’m not afraid of them but I don’t like it.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

I had an idea for renting dogs or a type of system where you share them … maybe you only want one 1-2 days a week. My family poked all kinds of holes in it. There are tons of programs and apps now for it. It is a pretty stupid idea but it just might work.

What country are you in? You’ve responded to multiple comments they don’t ship to my country but don’t see where that is…

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

I would order from eBay. It can be scary because each seller is separate and you have to check their ratings…but the system nowadays is very good. eBay has swung all of their policies to where they highly favor the buyer in disputes if there is an issue…to the point that buyers can easily abuse it. I was a seller and experienced this. If you file a dispute saying I didn’t receive my item or it wasn’t as described, they literally freeze the money in the sellers sellers account immediately until it’s resolved and the buyer has you by the balls.

You can search and see only items that ship to your country. I would imagine you find a lot that do ship to you. They make it easy because sellers can enroll in a program where you ship it to a certain address in sellers country and it gets forwarded to any country at buyers expense.

Just check the sellers ratings and read item descriptions, check return policy

Same, Roger’s point of view on movies usually was pretty close to mine. I feel like I have good taste and I enjoy challenging, artsy movies that critics praise. But sometimes there are movies like Moulin Rouge you just enjoy even if it isn’t critically defensible. Roger would go for things like that where Gene seemed more like a hard nosed snobby type. I realized at some point it Roger raved about a movie I was likely to enjoy it.

With BlueSky moving towards finally opening up federation, I'm interested in how people feel about it?

Would you be open to the idea of Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed, and other Fediverse platforms adopting the AT protocol in order to federate with it?

If those technical hurdles could be overcome, would you support your instance federating with BlueSky?

Does the same go for other commercially-owned platforms, such as Threads and Tumblr?

@fediverse

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

I vote for you to be my representative at the federation summit

I don’t know how much I trust AEI’s motivation, methods or conclusions. The same survey also shows gen z are much less likely to go to church, less likely to drink and smoke, less likely to have a girlfriend/boyfriend…and gen x and boomers are more likely to do all of that. Is it true? Probably. But when you are asking a 19 year old and a 59 year old the same question…how do you even calculate what the answer means?

Currently Gen Z included aa young as 11. Are they polling 13 year olds? Because I definitely give zero shits what 13 year old boys think.

And are they polling teenage gen x’ers as well?

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Yes I’m joking because the very premise of comparing the age groups with specific questions is problematic. “Are you a feminist” doesn’t mean the same thing to someone born in 2002 as it does someone born in 1972.

If you ask me…a 40-something man, I say yes I’m a feminist because I want you to know I am an ally and support women. If you ask a 16 year old, I would doubt the word means much to them at all. But I bet they will be more supportive of women than our generation anyway.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

It definitely won’t

OK Microsoft... trying to log into Teams while work lapop updates to Windows 11. No longer works in any iPhone browser, including Edge. The app will not authenticate my work login. (lemmy.world)

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐...

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Ah…after 15 minutes of fucking around I was able to get it to work only after disabling all tracking prevention at Microsoft’s direction and clearing all browser history and requesting desktop website. Their instructions say to turn tracking protections back on when you are done using teams browser version…

Now I can go online and tell my team windows 11 is still installing. Hurray! 😂

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

They have different browsers with limitations but I don’t know about not proper. It is possible to build perfectly decent web apps but many times they choose not to or it’s too much trouble

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Crapping on people complaining about work 👏🏻 cool cool

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

I was hired during the pandemic and Teams has been my main way of interacting with my employer and co-workers since 2021. I like it OK most days but Microsoft likes to release updates that break things several times a year. Oh…I like this new feature! And…an update broke it

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

When it works it’s alright. Interfaces with the rest of office. But Microsoft literally breaks it all the time…it’s never been more broken then when I updated to Windows 11 today. Literally spent 6 fucking hours on updates, reboots, uninstalls and reinstalls. When I logged off and went home I was still using the damn web version because windows updates were immediately breaking anything tech support fixed. I got paid for doing very little but really frustrating day.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Using Teams at first I was annoyed it didn’t have some zoom features like video backgrounds or whatever…but after using it quite a while I do like it better. The problem for me is you never know what update is going to break something whenever updates are forced…for office and all of the other work software.

I was thinking Concerned Ape, the dev of Stardew Valley…and I was concerned

mysoulishome,

No, but I barely recall what bored ape is or how it is culturally relevant…which is why I thought of it

Polybutylene. Yeah bad times if you’ve plumbing made out of it the US.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that was traumatic. Even if it’s a little cartoon creature…watching a life snuffed out like nothing is scary. Watching someone kill a live mouse or rabbit on screen would be fucked up too.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Funny I had not seen the movie but went on the Jaws ride at Universal studios and freaked the fuck out as a child. It was the 80’s and I guess my parents didn’t realize it was too scary.

mysoulishome,
@mysoulishome@lemmy.world avatar

Wizard of Oz is definitely more scary than most adults realize when they show it to kids.

Man of the Year with Robin Williams is pretty horrible. I would watch Robin in anything and it has a great cast but yowsa…so cheesy
