if it’s winter and really cold I’ll let the car run for a bit before going. also have to clear ice/snow off the car sometimes too.

I’d prefer it if you don’t renew until we figure something else out. I know they had plans to start a non profit but not sure where that’s at. Sorry for the inconvenience.

i think this is a great idea! i like the questions, as long as there’s options for people who want to answer some but not all.

this is still being worked on, as far as i know. i’ve disabled new donations at liberapay, not sure what will happen with renewals.

Using the WiiMote as a mouse

I am running Pop_OS! and want to set up an old WiiMote I have lying around as a mouse. I have a USB-sensor bar, and I don’t have any issues connecting the remote to the computer, and the inputs seems to register just fine when running xwiishow 1 after the remote is connected. I am also able to use it perfectly fine as a...

smorks,

it sounds to me according to wiki.archlinux.org/title/XWiimote that you might just need to run modprobe hid-wiimote and it just might work?

The second sentence says:

This driver is part of upstream Linux since version 3.1.

lemmy uses clockwerk i believe, there’s a few out there for rust.

Save On Foods, the one on Regent, I believe.

I use youmail free too. I doubt it’s very privacy respecting, but it does the trick for the few voicemails I get.

I built my own a while back using twilio and my own android app, but gave up on it, can’t remember why exactly anymore.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

thanks, i dealt with these yesterday, as well as another one this morning.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

no, it works fine on my non-rooted phone.

smorks,

As others have said, DM’ing an admin is fine. There’s also a report button for private messages as well.

i’m not sure about the Connect app but on desktop it should be right beside the “Read” checkmark:

i just tested this here: lemmy.ca/comment/2308379

and am seeing the same issue. deleting the root comment removes the entire comment chain. i didn’t notice it at first because (i’m assuming) i’m an admin and can see deleted posts/comments, but when I checked it when not logged in the entire comment chain was indeed gone. and once i un-deleted the comment it was back.

i then deleted a non-root comment, and now it behaves even differently, with a link saying “2 more replies” but when you click on it it just spins forever. will check to see if there’s already a bug related to this issue and report back.

edit: created an issue here, couldn’t find any existing issues: github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3886

second for aCalendar+. been using the paid version for a few years now with a self hosted nextcloud instance. works great! works great with other calendars too (google, etc).

I’ve decided to stick around for now to help out with Admin/server stuff, but everything has been fully transitioned over to them now.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

tagging @CanadianCorhen too because they asked the same question essentially.

the reason it was so cheap during June was that it used to be hosted on a VPS which i believe started with 4 CPU, and I kept upgrading it eventually to 8 CPU for the last few days. it then got migrated to a new dedicated server which is closer to around $150/month i believe.

i don’t think there’s a universal way to do this currently.

i would say probably the best thing to do would be to create a pinned post saying the community is closing or whatever, with a link to the new one, and also maybe something in the community sidebar as well.

you could also set the community to only allow posts from moderators.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

there should be a “remove” option when you’re on the community page itself.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

it doesn’t really look like there’s anything that will work how you like, from what I can tell.

this (github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3604) looks maybe like what you’re asking about?

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

weird, i haven’t noticed this at all, but it looks fairly widespread over at lemmy.world.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

that community you linked to should be working now. for some reason it appeared to be pointing to a kbin-style community, so I don’t know if that instance started out with kbin, then switched over to lemmy at some point? and that community was still pointing to the wrong one?

if there’s any others you’re aware of, let me know, and I’ll look into it!

codebam, to main
@codebam@mstdn.ca avatar

@main I can’t find my lemmy account from on mastodon. is federation turned off?

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

it should be fixed now with the update to v0.18.1

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

no. sorry i wasn’t clear in the post above. i meant instances with > 10,000 users from the list that @sunaurus is maintaining here:

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/…/pubhtml

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

100% agreed. I mean it’s better than nothing but way too easy to lock yourself out of your account. also no recovery codes, so not sure what happens if you no longer have access to your authenticator.

pretty sure they are addressing some of it in a future version.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

thank you @ininewcrow! it’s greatly appreciated!

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

yes, donations is my current plan.

someone mentioned in a different thread to contact CIRA and see if they will help like they did with mstdn.ca. I haven’t yet looked into that yet.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

love it! maybe put the link directly in the body above too to save users a click?

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

i’m the admin. i’m a software developer, living in Winnipeg, MB. I spend a lot of time watching my son play baseball in the spring/summer, own a dog that sometimes acts like a cat.

Not sure what makes this server different from others? I will do my best to make this place a safe, welcoming space for all. Will probably need some help along the way as we grow.

It’s currently run on a VPS on lunanode, a canadian provider. I’m currently self funding it, but plan on accepting donations to help run it as well.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

it doesn’t look that way.

i mainly just visit lemmy in my browser on my phone, works well enough for me.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

there should be an icon that will give you a link to the rss feed:

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

@TruckBC @Shadow i’m guessing this is because it’s now using cloudflare?

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

you have to manually mark them as “read”, unless you’re replying. don’t think there’s a way to change that currently?

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

Sorry for the delay, I talked this over with the other admins, and here’s what we decided:

  1. NSFL/gore content is not allowed.
  2. That’s a tough one. Artistic should be fine. Medical/injury should also be fine, as long as it’s not wading into NSFL/gore stuff.

Hope that helps!

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

from what i can see all posts are there that should be there? it could be that it took a bit for the post to federate?

is this the post you’re referring to? https://lemmy.ca/post/435196
