The term is definitely for cars that have had all the money spent on bling, that are as you say, not capable. All show, no go.

A mate of mine had a sleeper. The only thing you could see that gave it away was a small sticker that said “eats rice”.

It was a call to any rice to give him a try.

makingStuffForFun,

Have you ever heard it as a blanket for Asian people? Never in my life. It’s always been about cars

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Exactly. When I watch pirates I watch so much Monkey Island it’s not funny.

I walked past my niece watching it the other day, and there was governor phat, right there on screen. Except it was the king. But it was governor phat.

The dog with the key. The voodoo woman, etc etc etc etc

Without getting too personal, the most beautiful, sexy, guttural and sensual noises I’ve ever heard during love making, was from the most beautiful German woman. If you’re not enjoying the moment and the amazing language of love when with a German person, you’re not doing it right.

Thank you. I found this post disrespectful, and insulting. Valve have started contributing to a long running project. Which is great, but there has been tremendous work over the years before valve, and even still

Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?

I’ve noticed in the Linux community whenever someone asks for a recommendation on a laptop that runs Linux the answer is always “Get a Thinkpad” yet Lenovo doesn’t seem to be a big Linux contributor or ally. There’s also at least six Linux/FOSS-oriented computer manufacturers now:...

In Australia you get these “warranties” regardless. You don’t need to purchase them.

I tested lenovo on this when my x1 carbon broke, a year outside of it’s limited warranty period.

They wanted to charge me. I reminded them on Australian consumer law, and they instantly agreed to repair and ship it at no cost.

They will all try to get around it, but as soon as you mention it. They comply

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Not lucky, but worked for.

They still sell warranties, but only due to people not knowing about our strong laws. This is partially why I post about this when it comes up, to help educate people on their rights.

Some people feel we have a soul, that passes into another realm, or similar. So if this is the case here, that’s why it’s used.

I’m as dead centre as it gets. On some topics, I’ll gently lean left or right, but try to be balanced in my analysis of things.

I advocate for cash, as I also advocate for privacy. It doesn’t make me far right.

There are plenty of reasons for cash. For me, it’s privacy. For others, I’m sure there are some solid, and some whacky reasons also.

The real issue for me will be the digital dollar. Every dollar will be tracked through every transaction it’s ever involved in. From inception into eternity. The ability for that data to be abused is terrifying.

I’ll keep using cash as long as it exists compared to what’s coming with the digital dollar.

I am, without trying to sound arrogant, much better at cornering, roundabouts, and general driving than a large part of the population in Australia.

I can enter a roundabout, in a preselected gear, at appropriate revs and speed. Load up the suspension just right, so I’m released into my chosen exit, kissing the apex with a release of energy that feels so sweet, smooth and safe, that it’s a beautiful part of my life.

All within safe thresholds, and always when I know it’s safe. And the way others use roundabouts, it’s always safer than the general population.

When was the last time a dream made you feel genuinely happy, and what was it about?

About 3 years ago I dreamt that I was in a downtown Chicago office interviewing for a fancy new job. For whatever reason my mom came along for the interview and was patiently waiting for me in the office lobby. About half way through the interview it began to dawn on me that my mom passed away over a decade ago. This realization...

If they’re public, they have huge pressure. If not, they can play their own game with a specific strategy that a shareholder might not like. So this could well be a good thing. Public trading usually leads to enshitification.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Agreed. If someone sends me a twitter link, even if public, I can’t read it as my privacy settings are such that they can’t get a unique ID on me. It forces a log in. Which I can’t, and won’t do.

My colleague can view public tweets, even if not logged in, as we assume Twitter can uniquely identify them, even if not logged in.

I will stop using Linux / PC for 10 months. What do you think will happen in that period?

Long story short, this year is my exam preparation year and due to my nature I will take extreme measures to prevent distraction and focus on studying. i just want to say how much I love having separate upvotes and downvotes.

It’s very nice to see that X people liked a post/comment and Y people disliked it instead of just having a singular “goodness/badness” rating. It (literally, in a mathematical sense) adds a whole new dimension to post ratings and gives us a more nuanced understanding of people’s opinions. Plus, it feels a lot better to...

Q: What are the five (5) video games from the 20th Century that you want to be able to play again today? And why?

  • Maybe you no longer have time, or, there are no modern ports or adaptation.

I'll start with mine.

(in no particular order)

It seems easier to play than , but as you progress, it is actually challenging. I love the challenge.

  1. / (DOS version specifically).

If I am not mistaken, before there was the franchise, there was “Empire”. It was a fun game. There is available on , but I miss the DOS version that I played a lot.

A very fun game. Once I start playing this, time flies fast. I miss this game.

Here's a video of it, it's hard to explain this game as there are many features/gameplay “modes” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBJ0q52bXJM

Modern games today are usually limited to certain themes. If it's flight, it's flight. If it's tank, it's tank. If it's strategy, that's it. Carrier Command have it all.

  1. / (DOS)

Years before the era of came. RPG-ish space game that made me felt exploring space. This was new to me then and I enjoyed it.

  1. / (DOS)

I know, we can still play this today, however, what I miss with this game is the 2 player mode.

You just play with your friend and blast each other to friendly matches and laughter.

Being able to play 2P mode, face-to-face, is something that we have taken for granted, and now we're all just virtual avatars in online games (even online multiplayer games).

So, how about you?

Living near a rural area in Australia, my unpopular opinion is the cows bread for meat in the whole area are living beautiful lives. Roaming in lovely paddocks, with good food, care and medical taken care of. They’re happy, healthy and live an enviable life. Not sure what it’s like where you’re from, but generally here farmers really look after the animals.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

haha, looks like I had an actual unpopular opinion. Here’s a little story to help set what it’s like here in Australia, one of the world’s large beef producers.

I was driving through an area that had recent flooding, trying to see if I could cut about 800KM off my trip, by cutting through a regional / rural area.

I came to a road, which I wanted to take, that was cut off from the floods. There was a farmer there. I stopped to ask him if there was any way I could proceed.

There was not. He was upset and on edge. I asked if he was ok. He nearly cried. He told me his cows were trapped in an area which was flooded, and they might be dead if the high ground went under. He then did cry and was geniunely distraught for the wellbeing of those animals. There was just nothing to be done. Thousands of acres of land underwater, no way out and his pain for the cows was real.

Farmers are not these crazed psychopaths that you make out. Maybe in some parts of the world? Maybe? People usually like their jobs though, do them with pride and want to do the best they can. Particularly when animals are involved.

This is not one farmer, like your analogy with a landlord. This is a nationwide industry, that is full of good people, providing a great environment for these animals, as a whole. Sure, there will always be a shonky operator, as there are in all walks of life. But, by and large, you are incorrect, and wildly so. At least in Australia.

@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Ouch, so the new system will be account based. Say goodbye to your privacy.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I appreciate your detailed reply, but I believe the fight for privacy is not over. It takes a lot of time, dedication and money to fight for privacy, but it must be done.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

That looks amazing! Thank you for sharing the recipe!

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

They should not use discord in my opinion. That’s a closed ecosystem, known for horrendous privacy violation.

Looking for games with strong female leads for my daughter (even just to watch as I play). Came across this link, but they're a bit age-inappropriate. Any suggestions from the community? (gameranx.com)

Edit: Daughter is only 5 so she’s unlikely to play much but she watches me and as long as it’s not too violent, it should be fine

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

And dads are always stupid and not as smart as the clever mum, who knows how to use a washing machine. Or, so every ad seems to reinforce.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

So the article said ps2 controllers have pressure sensitive shoulder buttons (knew this), but new generation controllers don’t.

I’m gobsmacked and that just sounds strange. How do you throttle control without analogue shoulder buttons?
