Linux distro for a laptop I might barely use (lemmy.sdf.org)

For years, I’ve gotten by with a desktop at home running Arch and a work laptop running Kubuntu. Now I want a laptop that’s not owned by my job, so that I can use a computer outside the house and not have my workplace own the IP rights of whatever I do on it. My workload is basically just going to be emacs and web browsing,...

I feel like lemmy is the real Web 3. I’ll die on that little hill gladly

That is dark as hell

Is this the start of a budding romance?! Maybe a friendship with roots in millennial lemmyism?!

makingStuffForFun,

I’ll disagree. This issue has probably been around since humans could communicate.

There’s just no need anymore. Lemmy has boomed, and we have our own content. Reddit is not really relevant anymore.

Australian here. Never happened… yet

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone? (kbin.social)

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

Android user here. Swipe style entry now for maybe 8 years? So much faster than individual tapping.

I’m the opposite. No drivers required in Linux for me. Printer just worked. Wacom tablet just worked. Monitor colour profile just worked. Etc etc etc. Everything has just worked. However, I don’t do bleeding edge video cards, so maybe that’s an issue? I have no idea. Linux though for me, has never needed a driver.

This has to be one of the greatest photos in a long time. Like the Afghan girl, this will go down in the history books.

Wow. They are both impressive numbers.

My hottest is Australia at about 47c and Germany at about -18c.

Went from one, to a couple of days later the other. Quite the shock. Quite the fun of it all.

nudes in your inbox for every upvote (thank god that is a thing of the past)

Can someone still viewing Reddit explain how it is doing as of right now in terms of content quality and engagement? Akan

To someone who is subscribed to multiple communities on Reddit, has there been any change in their feed in their quality or amount of posts since July 1st? Any change in the amount of comments in the posts? Even the number of community subscribers?...

I saw this also. The big subs are not showing. It’s very strange content

Doesn’t it cost them a fortune though?

Ability to know every legal system to the most minute detail. I could then challenge unjust laws, particularly those that are a result of corruption, and have them overturned. It would be amazing. I’d probably be assassinated though. That would be a bummer.

I’m sorry to post off your comment but there’s no icon I can find to comment on the main thread in Jerboa.

But, we just watched Die Heart. It was just silly and fun.

Switch from suck… to BLOW

Yes, i have that under each comment, but not the main thread.

Honestly. Debian. It’s just so solid and works so well.

These are insanely expensive in Australia.

There’s an ad covering the article I can’t bypass. The irony, considering it’s taking about an open laptop worth an open OS.

You obviously haven’t been to /r/sino then. The most racist place on the internet. Reddit is aware of it and do nothing. I wonder why.

Every time my daughter cried as a baby my ears physically contracted internally and made a strange sound. For every, single, breath she cried.

Was bizarre. However, my son a year earlier. Nothing like that at all.

Can this be reported to those tech savvy enough to know what to do? Fantastic find. These instances might well be preparing bots for attack.

I’m a 4 year user, but will cancel. Their app in just non stop abusing my phone’s notification system to try and upsell their other products. This is MY phone, not their personal marketing billboard.

Where are the games?

I’m a goose, you did list it. Thanks for the reply though, much appreciated

Yup. I guess they can have their safe bubble, and the rest of the fediverse can just keep growing. Shame to see a community cut themselves off from the world, but it’s their community and if a bubble / chamber is what they want, then we have to just shrug and move on.

Shrug.

Moved on.

YSK If you are driving in an area with heavy smoke you should replace your car filters once the smoke has cleared.

Why YSK: Back in 2020 when Australia had our massive wildfires I still had to drive to work everyday in the smoke. I also went and got my car serviced around the same time and they showed me how dark my cars air filters had gotten after just a few weeks of those conditions. The air filters in cars aren’t designed to filter out...

Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp) is joining the fediverse very soon and we have to seriously prepare. This isn't a theoretical scenario anymore.

"One of Meta’s top executives showed employees a preview of the company’s upcoming Twitter competitor during a companywide meeting today" via https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/8/23754304/instagram-meta-twitter-competitor-threads-activitypub
The photo shows what seems to be a fake conversation with @tonyg with the full @mastodon.social handle visible in two places

Excellent point. A small community, that can easily interact with the larger community. This is what the internet always should have been.

The man can say what he wants and it’s nothing to do with Linux. And, his gun stance seems fair to me. I think he is an intelligent man, and I think he’s allowed to say his thoughts without some lame arse trying to tie his ideals to the OS. Move on, nothing to see here.
