I mean, as far as the older shows, it was probably too expensive to produce “gravity-free” episodes?

I did really enjoy them using the gravity being turned off in Subspace Rhapsody though!

I am almost certain this is a city train in Melbourne, Australia. I recognise the seat pattern.

I think they were implying they like their instance but wish they could downvote sometimes. My instance doesn’t allow it either, and coming from more than a decade on Reddit, it can be frustrating at times. Still, I wouldn’t leave Blahaj because my interests align with those of the instance’s owners.

The NexDock is a laptop dock for Dex with a 44Wh battery built in and a 13.3” screen. They’re only $269. They’re launching an XL model next year for only $299 with a 57Wh battery and a 15.6” screen. They both have a touch screen and a 360° hinge.

Except soda water occurs in a naturally carbonated form. It’s existed for a lot longer, I think it kinda gets the right to be referred to as just “soda”.

Huh, where I am in Australia, we use ‘I reckon’ a lot. We also still casually refer to height in feet, and use ‘foot’. Eg. ‘I’m six foot one’. Everything else we measure in metric, and medical records list height in centimetres. Using ‘clean’ like that is pretty normal here too.

Edit: To be clear, the height of a person. Nothing else.

Okay, yeah, those too.

So I just ran across this, after leaving a comment in that same thread. Posting it again here to try and add some sanity back to this discussion:

Okay, but there’s a line here somewhere. Pushing for new features and complaining in the issue tracker that a bug hasn’t been fixed soon enough is absolutely entitlement. Expecting someone to follow through on their word and release the source code is another thing entirely. Especially if they make the decision to stop working on it.

Go check out this EoL statement from the developer of Nomie. He open-sourced the code without even being asked too.

You’re putting words in their mouth. Also, as far as I know, the developer is a woman.

Something that I do to make sure I’m more protected is that I don’t put the two-factor for my main email accounts into Bitwarden.

That’s fair, I would though.

I’ve got one new enough to have networking, that’s still pretty old. It needs zero configuration using ethernet and just works on mobile devices (iOS & Android) without issue.

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I mean you saw LogoFAIL right?

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The vulnerability actually isn’t in Windows Boot Manager, it’s a flaw in the image-parsing code of the UEFI itself. That’s why it’s able to bypass SecureBoot.

It just happens that for whatever reason you can easily update the image file from within Windows/Linux itself. The fact they don’t show a logo currently does not mean you’re immune, as the system might just be showing a black screen at that point. Code can be injected into an image file without perceptibly affecting the image output, so you’d likely be able to use a “black screen” logo. If your computer has a UEFI instead of a BIOS, which is pretty much everything from the last 10yrs, then you are more than likely at risk.

My computer likely isn’t susceptible, and that’s because it’s a Dell workstation. While the bug still exists in the image parser, Dell has locked things down so it’s pretty much impossible to change the boot logo from userspace.

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s valid, I looked into it with Dell and later articles have mentioned they aren’t susceptible.

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Wait, this is actually, finally real?

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Cool, so they went from a 5yr release schedule to a 12yr one.

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Holy shit, this article is based on just a 0.1% change? That’s not a statistically significant change over the course of a month.

I came to the comment section to recommend Proxmox or another hypervisor as well. If it was a system with just one GPU, I wouldn’t, as splitting it between two VMs can be difficult. But, most of the time having two GPUs under one OS can be a lot worse too though. I think it’s definitely the cleaner & easier way to go. One caveat I’ll add is that resources are more strictly assigned to each seat, so memory & cpu can’t be sent to who needs it more as readily. Another positive though is that it would be super simple to create a third VM with a small amount of resources for running a small self-hosted server of some kind on the same box.

princessnorah,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah, okay, and maybe that’s true. But you linked something that, directly or indirectly, connects back to you. So I’m going to take it with more of a grain of salt. Lemmy Admins aren’t gods from on high like those on Reddit. They are basically glorified moderators with CS degrees/technical skills. They’re gonna fuck up at times. So it’s gonna take more than terrible interpersonal skills before I write off a whole instance.

When I first came out to her, she told me she was proud of me, and then minutes later she told me that I would be ugly and never find love.

As someone with a diagnosis of bipolar, this isn’t how bipolar works. Even with rapid-cycling, which I have, it takes a couple of days for a mood shift to occur, not a couple of minutes. In my opinion, this is more likely to be a personality disorder (eg narcissism, borderline) than a mood disorder.

I’m not just saying this flippantly, as I can garner enough info from our past interactions to give specific-enough advice. You should join the public sector union. I know past and present members closely. I have a trans friend who got their help getting a manager who wouldn’t use her correct pronouns reprimanded by HR. My mum was also a member for over a decade.

I completely agree with where you’re at, and I’m really sorry that you’re living with this fear. I do believe though that a strong public sector union, with queer members in its ranks, would be capable of fighting the government on it. The construction union where I’m at showed up in force to protect trans folks from the alt-right at a TDOV rally.

Try Obsidian, their canvas option is very similar. They have a paid sync option, but the app itself is free to use, and allows community plugins. I use one called Obsidian Livesync with my own self-hosted couchDB container. I share a vault with my partner and it syncs (mostly) flawlessly between iOS, Android, Windows and Linux. I haven’t personally used it on macOS, but it is supported as well.

What Tweak, Program, ... changes a Desktop Environment from unusable to great for you?

I have used Linux on and off for 15 years. I consider myself a casual user and stuck to the mainstream DEs (mostly KDE, XFCE and some Cinnamon). Gnome has been a hurdle for me before and after the big version 40 changes, I couldn’t get my head around how they handled the workspaces and workflow. At some point I I tried out an...

While that issue isn’t marked as closed, this PR was marked as merged two weeks ago. I honestly feel like a 6 week turnaround on what, from my quick skimming, was a rather major change in how extensions work in Gnome 45, is pretty reasonable. I understand where you’re coming from, but this comment reeks of entitlement.

Is there any way I can make an old XMMS plugin work in any modern player?

Long story short, I learned there is an XMMS release of a plugin I use in Winamp for music playback (mp3PRO). Sadly, I recoded most of my music to mp3PRO back in the day, and now I’m stuck using Winamp, even on Linux. I like the player, wouldn’t change it, but I wanted to switch to something native, like Audacious or Qmms....

One thing I’ve learned over the years dealing with PC tech is that spinning drives is the one thing you absolutely don’t buy second hand.

I think this actually depends on a lot of things. I have an old Dell rack server and I buy ex-enterprise SAS drives for it. I use them in RAID arrays with dedicated hot spares and cold spares on standby. The eBay seller I buy from replaced a drive for free once when it was “error predicted” on arrival.

Women generally have softer, smoother skin than men, and produce less skin oils. Oily skin can cause hair to look greasy and unkempt. This effect is caused by hormone receptors in the skin that also control things like body hair growth and pheromones in puberty.

Hi, I have ADHD and “sorting myself out” was getting a prescription for drugs, without which I cannot be a functional human being. A lot of people I’ve met with un-diagnosed/recognised ADHD use caffeine as a crutch. It is usually the only widely available, legal, and relatively non-harmful stimulant they have access too. Thanks for reinforcing a harmful stereotype that prevents people like me from accessing life-saving medication.
