Who will think of all the palm pre’s out there

epyon22,

I don’t think you understand why some cars are louder than others

Firefox curated list of NSFW sites (MD5 hashed) from FF source code. Community effort? (searchfox.org)

Those are the MD5 hashes of a lot of adult sites. They list them, so they can filter them from “often visited”. In bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1159884 they reason, that this is so that virus scanners don’t detect FF as malicious (due to containing references to those sites). Let’s get the list!...

epyon22,

Is there a feature to block these sites that I am unaware of?

epyon22,

They have a lower emissions after a few years even with higher initial manufacturing emissions even in areas with coal as the source of power, just takes longer to recoup. youtu.be/6RhtiPefVzM?si=ythLgdv93D6zC3WM

They allow for government to control the means of electricity production that powers these vehicles

While not perfect it is a decent step to remove the individual citizen’s direct pollution and leave control In the hands of government. This is where the change needs to happen for manufacturing and other large scale polluters.

epyon22,

What this seems like is it would replace things that are normally spot welded or glued together, things I can think off the top of my head that are like this are the front radiator support and strut towers in various cars. When these items are bent or rusted you can usually buy these peices. See skyline r34 strut tower rust issues. On this new proposed design your options would be to replace the whole front or rear third of your car, or precision cutting and welding a piece in, which may be inaccessable because of the casting design.

epyon22,

My guess is increase part cost but reduce repair labor. Similar to replacing transmission or engine today. Not worth it for a shop to usually do the repairs them selves but replace the whole unit and send off to a remanufacturing plant

epyon22,

Probably because DNS is unencrypted and would allow tampering of the key needed for ECH to work

epyon22,

It was nice when you could actually watch almost everything on it. Once everyone else started taking peices of the pie it just feels like cable with more hoops now

Professors who grade the same exam dozens or hundreds of times probably experience semantic satiation (explained in the body of the post).

Semantic satiation happens when repeating word or a phrase over and over makes it temporarily lose its meaning. This was first written about in the psychological literature by Titchener, in case you search it online and find that name....

epyon22,

Program a widget builder. Couple days of really focusing you’ll realize that widget is a very weird word. WidgetBuilder IsWidget ModifyWidget ect

epyon22,

For me at least the game changer was taking some time to get used to the key layout either remapping or just getting my fingers reaching for the correct place. If you have a HOTAS this can be mostly ignored but ideally when you get to further missions dog fights are going to be common so weapons and/or maneuvers are going to be needed.

epyon22,

Got any good sites for movies and TV shows? I’ve been buying physical copies for them. But have found places like hd tracks and Amazon for music drm free that I can control the way I consume them much easier.

epyon22, (edited )

I wonder if it’d just be easier to open these up to Linux distros. Out of the 3 Chromebooks I have once they go out of support they are on a quick decline to just becoming trash because I can’t do anything with them after that. At least traditional PC hardware I could just put Linux on it and have a device for years to come when the hardware actually fails.

Edit just to clarify none of my devices are supported by galliumos or as far as I know any other Linux distros

epyon22,

They are more like phones than PCs so every model needs it’s own specific build and that specific build relies on proprietary drivers

epyon22,

Yep use it all the time but the containers fill the hd quickly and aren’t exactly native so there are some quirks. Plus that doesn’t help much when underlying os goes out of support.

Acer Chromebook R 13

Acer Chromebook Spin 311

Asus CX22NA-211.BB01

Been a while since I’ve looked but I’ve haven’t had much luck finding Linux for those 3.

epyon22,

Reminds me of youtu.be/53s13hXBX8w the intro to Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters

epyon22,

How far does that stubborness go? Like do you not write checks? Do you not use a credit/debit card? Cash only?

epyon22,

Policy at a macro scale is very different than policy at a citizen level. While both inform the other many decisions are made on either side without understanding consequences. Banning drug use at a home or even a town level could make sense and work in the head of household’s favor but that one town or house banning the use could make things worse for another, but from the smaller level makes a ton of sense, unfortunately.

epyon22,

Lol I still do this cobblestone tools are free iron just doesn’t feel consistent enough. Though I am trying a new mining strategy we will see if that improves it.

epyon22,

First time hearing about pandoc are you saying like a more competent version of o365 or confluence?

epyon22,

Yep each windows version conveniently has higher specs than the last but I can run the latest xubuntu on anything made in the last 20 years

epyon22,

They’ve had one for quite a while. My original Google pixel had the option to enable when on unknown wifi ie coffee shops and such. While it provides no value and even negative value for you guys here I can see how it’d be useful for places where you don’t trust the network you are on. But that also means you have to trust Google 🤣

epyon22,

If you are building software where the customer is the deployer being flexible on what database can be used is a pretty big step. Without it could turn off potential customers that have already existing infastructure.

epyon22,

I don’t listen to a ton of podcasts but I really enjoy selfhosted.show

That feeling when you're googling the answer to some technical question, and your own Lemmy post appears 4 results down. (lemmy.one)

Hopefully this kind of content is ok here. Up until recently, when I would be searching for some kind of technical info, the top (and best) results would usually all be Reddit posts. I was very pleasantly surprised to do that this time and find a Lemmy post instead!...

epyon22,

My guess is it’ll vary instance by instance. You have to get on Google’s radar to start search your content.

Surviving adhd’er does a “spot” count if my keys are always attached to my pants?

epyon22,

Forgot to build that siege workshop and just decided to send it

epyon22,

Honda also pulled the fit. Such a fantastic car no other ones in the US segment came close.

epyon22,

Japan bases their taxes on engine size and gives significant tax brakes to cars 660cc and under. 3.0L and up are basically luxury vehicles there.

Why do they keep making new languages

Why are there so many programming languages? And why are there still being so many made? I would think you would try to perfect what you have instead of making new ones all the time. I understand you need new languages sometimes like quantumcomputing or some newer tech like that. But for pc you would think there would be some...

epyon22,

I ran ddwrt for years moved over to a mikrotik hex with router os. Gave me all the features I used in ddwrt and more plus no weird reflashing hardware risks. Rock solid stable and still getting updates years later.

epyon22,

This is what I ended up with for my r720xd that has redundant 1100w psus. www.amazon.com/…/B07RWMLKFM

epyon22,

He made also a lot more money during this time period by pumping and dumping crypto. He went from being rich to having fuck you money, hence how he came to own twitter.

epyon22,

You wouldn’t be able to register your car in the United States without a bunch of hoops. Many custom builds will leverage an existing wrecked car just because of the existing vin number to ease registration

What features would you want in a decentralized gaming platform similar to Steam?

Hey everyone! I noticed that the discussions around the recently released self-hosted alternative to Steam and Origin, have been focused on its controversial name. Let’s shift the conversation and talk about the features you would like to see or wouldn’t care about in this software.

epyon22,

Would be nice to have overlays and chat features similar to steam. Maybe hooking into matrix and activity pub for sharing what game and chatting with friends

epyon22,

Being on a OnePlus 8t where side ways typing is basically not usable I’d be willing to try this out. Although I am no sure if the android API would allow for this and may cause a good amount of work

epyon22,

FIY even when deauthorized all passwords previously synced are still available but prevents syncing without fully logging in.

epyon22,

I guess it depends on your risk tolerance?

How sensitive is your browsing history?

how many people have access to your account or root access?

How many people have access to the device under a different account?

Are you concerned about cyber attacks?

Are concerned about the device getting confiscated/stolen by another party?

If the answers to these questions are low risk then you basically have very little problems with keeping history on your device. Remember your isp/VPN will be able to see DNS calls and ip address connections which best case scenario will expose the websites you go to.
