I’m sure the same idiots pushing this are pushing for making VPN’s and encryption illegal.

Poilievre opens up 15 point lead over Trudeau on preferred Prime Minister tracking (Nanos) (nanos.co)

Never invade Russia in the winter. Never fight a land war in Asia. Never go for a third term as Prime Minister in Canada. It makes the electorate hate you. I don’t complain much about his policies, but Trudeau is screwing his own party over and now we might end up with the Trumpiest of Canadian politicians as PM.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Fuck Trudeau people never have a cogent answer for this lol. But they all seem to believe it.

The answer is that their right wing propaganda told them so, and they’re not smart enough to think for themselves… so they repeat it.

Personally I recommend just using KeePassXC and a KeePass app (I use KeePassium on iPhone).

You always have access to all your data that way. No company is monitoring you. A lot of apps make it very difficult to backup!

My totp database is in the cloud for syncing but needs a key file I don’t keep in the cloud (and a password). My passwords are entirely separate.

What do you all do on your phones that isn't doom-scrolling or mindless mini games?

I find myself checking out pretty often and just making myself feel bad about the state of the world, or killing half an hour on stupid games that I could 100% live without. This is probably pretty common, and I’m wondering what other people have found as a way to do more productive things with their phones in the downtime.

I’m using ddg. It used to be noticeably worse than google; now Google is noticeably worse than ddg.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Google used to be better. Lately though, I really am noticing a decline in search quality.

ebits21,

Hear hear! Thanks for all the work you’ve done. 😃

ebits21,

I’d consider paying but…. not that much 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s definitely not useless, it blocks a ton.

There’s only a few sites, like YouTube it doesn’t help much on.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah it’s just a frontend for Borg (which is great).

I just mount and browse in Nautilus. I have a mount script aliased to open-backup.

Works fine for me. Maybe instance related?

Google abandons “Web Environment Integrity” (simplifiedprivacy.com)

Google has abandoned the “Web Environment Integrity” API that was supposed to allow websites to only allow approved and verified browser environments. The plan would allow websites to reject browser or even OS modifications that were “unattested” for the purpose of supposedly stopping bots, piracy, ad-blocking, and other...

To somewhat quote Jurassic Park… hackers… find a way.

I get 5 Chinese spam calls a day… since turning on live voicemail they’ve mostly stopped, and the ones that make it through get deleted without me listening to them.

I LOVE the feature.

Yeah on my 7th gen carbon it’s an Ethernet extension connector.

Probably also works with this? That or the dock.

Edit: clearly redundant with the Ethernet port on the right, which the carbon lacks. So yeah, for the dock.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask him to take it down in that case. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Same if it was an Israeli flag.

I started on a raspberry pi and would highly recommend. Great for tons of things to self host.

It’ll run Plex no problem, just forget transcoding.

If you have regular backups I wouldn’t worry. If you don’t, I worry…. and you should!

It’s great if you get used to it and put in the time to set it the way you want it. I find IDE’s very bloated.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

I thought it was Bing? I’m not sure lol. I’ve noticed the drop in Google searches quality lately and switched to DDG.

Seems much better now imo.

Synology NAS where all computers get backed up to locally. Restic for Linux, Time Machine for Mac, active backup for Windows.

NAS backs most of its data (that I trust enough to put on the cloud) encrypted to Google drive every night, occasionally I back the NAS up to an external 8tb hard-drive.

Multiple news sources are reporting. The pcmag article was the first I saw.

Here IGN’s article that details the source better.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s already the case though?

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

I’ve also been very happy with Avelon.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Memmy is pretty buggy. I was regularly bug finding to help out but unfortunately development seems to have dropped off a cliff now.

I’m not even sure the devs are using Lemmy at all anymore.

I mostly use Avelon and Voyager. Lemma has a great video player.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

It’d be great to hear anything from the devs…

My PW manager told me that my info was leaked in the recent eye4fraud.com breach. How can I know what site shared my data with them?

My password manager told me that my info was leaked, including IP address, address, email, personal information, and phone number, in a data breach of eye4fraud.com. However, I don’t use eye4fraud, so it must have been a site that uses their services. I would like to change my login credentials on the site that shared my data...

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

You could use something like simplelogin.io to create aliases.

Integrates with password managers like Bitwarden nicely to generate aliases.

I think many other services support the + trick though too. The downside is that spammers know the + trick and can find out your base email easily; they can’t if you use an alias.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

I have 3 of the 3rd generation ones to mess around on.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

There’s auto update?

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Oh yeah. But it doesn’t auto update like Firefox or something.

I really wish it did. On windows I use winget to update it.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

You need a slight forward tilt for separation.

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

There’s dozens of us

So, uh, like… is dev still going on?

Love Memmy, use it every day. I know the devs had to take some much-needed time off and I respect that 100%. That said, I keep selfishly wanting my favorite app to get better and am wondering if effort will resume soon? Or is the rewrite happening under the covers and we just don’t see the activity? Anyway thanks, just...

ebits21,
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Voyager and Avelon are quite solid imo. I’ll be back if Memmy comes back alive but the devs don’t even seem to be using Lemmy at all so not holding my breath.

Once the TestFlight runs out I’ll likely not install the App Store version.
