brygphilomena,

Van Oak Props. He had some very cool, very intricate builds that were a lot of fun to follow along with.

Now that there are sponsored videos, those videos are somewhat short, almost half assed builds just to use the sponsors product. The quality in his videos and the props he makes have gone down.

brygphilomena,

I figure you’d know about it by now, but fail2ban would really help.

brygphilomena,

Dramamine is a motion sickness medication. Also an antihistamine like Benedryl, but a different compound: Dimenhydrinate

Both can have drowsiness as side effects

brygphilomena,

Isn’t this default Firefox behaviour?

Whenever a site wants access to the microphone I get a prompt from Firefox asking for its permission to grant it to the site/tab. Then when I close the tab, the permission goes away.

There is an option to remember my preference in the popup but there’s no chance in hell I check it.

brygphilomena,

Brainwashthemasses.org was one I got a long time ago because I thought it funny.

brygphilomena, (edited )

We have our best men ready to go over the edge to finally determine the sex of the turtle! We certainly live in interesting times.

brygphilomena,

Dinner.

Frozen or take them out. Take the family out. A gift certificate to a local restaurant.

You can almost never go wrong with food. It’s exhausting for someone to have to figure out food for a family every day of the week.

brygphilomena,

I’d genuinely like to catch up with them. See how their life turned out, what they’ve done, and who they’re with. Even a few I’d like to apologize to.

I’d order some pizza and booze. We’d have a party.

I’d also take a count, there are people I’ve unfortunately forgotten about. It will be good to remember them again.

brygphilomena,

Those damn chickens ruining light truck imports.

brygphilomena,

We also need to get rid of the chicken tax

brygphilomena,

I’ve always felt black and white was the perfect game to get a vr version.

brygphilomena,

I’ve got a decent kit from rhino USA. But I don’t think the brand makes a big difference.

brygphilomena,

Regular watch. Other than my phone, I tend to want less technology on me.

My go to is an old Casio, the same one Dennis Nedry wears in Jurassic Park. It’s super weird seeing how expensive this watch has become on eBay.

brygphilomena,

Music, various places. Dropbox and several random devices.

Movies and TV I don’t backup. I can “rip” them all again if I need to, and have done on multiple occasions. But backups would be costly with the sheer volume I have. 170tb of s3 block storage is expensive, and so is additional cold hard drives to keep it all on.

brygphilomena,

Gotta learn to love yourself. Then you can spend all the money with no regrets.

brygphilomena,

My house. I am constantly stressed now, but it’s something I can work on, improve, and builds equity.

The medicine cabinet in my bathroom. I know it sounds stupid, but of all the improvements in my house I’ve made in the last year, this one has had the most impact. It looks great and gives me tons more storage. And since I use it every single day, I can appreciate it every single day.

brygphilomena,

I picked this one up. It matched the sink and vanity that came with the house perfectly and was built at a much higher quality than I expected.

I also got one of those cabinets that goes over the toilet too, and while it looks alright, it felt cheap when I put it together.

brygphilomena,

My favorite idea for augmented reality is the ability to overlay historical photos of architecture. To see the world as it was 10, 20, or 100 years ago.

If only they could figure out the privacy aspect of having something recording video on your face.

brygphilomena,

Just don’t forget it on the train.

brygphilomena,

This sounds less like a recording of a broadcast and instead physical media that never was supposed to be removed from the BBC in the first place.

brygphilomena,

Lightsaber kid? Mostly just because iirc he got bullied for it quite a bit.

Goatse or two girls one cup. Or lemon party.

brygphilomena,

Weird rage bait post.

  • Title that misidentifies something in the pic.
  • Pointless infuriation
  • No follow up comments from OP
  • Impossible solution

Besides, how would they open the “resealed” tortilla bag without the tape ripping the flimsy plastic?

brygphilomena,

How do you enforce storage laws? Do you regularly inspect people’s homes?

Storage like that isn’t unreasonable, but the methods required to enforce it are.

brygphilomena,

You’ve glossed over how someone would get caught. Storage is done in private residences, so in order to catch someone you’d need to search their homes.

Regular searches would be unreasonable. As well as any searches just because they own a gun. The only time someone would be charged for this is when another search of the home would be conducted. The law wouldnt protect anyone nor would it increase safety or lower the rates of crimes, but add more charges to someone already being arrested. It would only inflate prison times.

brygphilomena,

Drivers should not have the option to decide for themselves when they think it’s safe

I hate this sentiment. They don’t want people to think for themselves.

brygphilomena,

I disagree. More often than not, people make the safe decision.

brygphilomena,

And yet, less than 50% of car trips result in crashes. Ergo, people make the safe decisions more often than not.

brygphilomena,

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’

  • Isaac Asimov
brygphilomena,

This looks like a crappy mobile game.

brygphilomena,

Catcher in the Rye.

It really gives a view of the internal monologue of depression.

brygphilomena,

Holy shit that’s depressing.

brygphilomena,

What he is saying is that her initial lawsuit was over medical expenses. Which would have been covered so she would never have even initiated a suit for McDonald’s to say no to.

brygphilomena, (edited )

I just watched “But I’m a Cheerleader” the other day. He was an incredible actor. May he rest in peace.

brygphilomena,

Take screenshots, especially those on public forums. It’s defamation.

brygphilomena,

Cars are already subject to noise restrictions. So effectively loud cars are banned. There is just little enforcement for most of it.

Honest question: what was Hamas' long-game with respect to kidnapping Israelis? Did they think Israel would just negotiate rather than retaliate?

It just seems crazy to me given the power imbalance. A cynical part of me suspects that things are playing out exactly as some evil strategists hoped they would, which, given all the children dying, is super-depressing....

brygphilomena,

I am woefully ignorant on the politics and history of the region and it’s people.

Recognizing this, I cannot lay my support for either side. Somehow, to many this is an incorrect stance and I must have an opinion and pick a side.

It would take considerable time and effort to learn the background and create an informed independent opinion as I do not trust the news to give me an unbiased report of the war. It would be unrealistic to think everyone can do this, and so I think we should normalize people not taking a side.

brygphilomena,

Do more smokers think the moon landing is fake?

Do people who think the moon landing was fake smoke more?

Are people who think the moon landing is fake more likely to smoke?

Is “fake” just closer to the smokers?

brygphilomena,

Trademark only carries weight if they are in the same industry and there is a reasonable likelyhood of confusion that it’s official. They do not get a blank check on the phrase or initials GTA.

As there is no website at all, no confusion can be made. If there is a satirical site put up (i.e. falloutfirst.com) there again is no likelyhood of confusing it for the official site.

T2 can pound sand.

brygphilomena,

Not to knock on the security, but what is the threat model you are protecting against?

I see people harp on about security and you can do X or you need to do Y as if they hold a million bucks in Bitcoin to protect.

We make concessions every day with security for convenience. Most people’s threat model doesn’t include wire guard might respond to connection attempts without the proper key AND this will somehow allow an attacker to leverage a vulnerability in wire guard to gain access. However, I admit that some people’s paranoia makes them want to add every bit of security they possibly can even if it’s the most frustrating day to day usage.

Self hosting individuals aren’t a lucrative target for ransomware. Nor is it for most targeted hacking attempts.

brygphilomena,

I just rewarched Army of Darkness last night and it sounds like it fits. Doesn’t have so much of a harem, but at one point a romantic interest for seemingly no reason. And certainly a overpowered main character.

brygphilomena,

Depends on if they run concurrently or sequentially.

brygphilomena,

I’ve gotten into it. There are a few automations I like, such as a single button to turn off all the lights when I go to bed. Or for the robot vacuum to clean when I leave the house.

Even with that, I could totally live without any of the smart stuff.

brygphilomena,

Most places have specific taxes for hotels. Taxes go to the city/state.

It’s the resort fees that are annoying. The ones that claim go to your pool access and maybe the wifi.

More presumed human remains recovered from submersible that imploded, killing 5, Coast Guard says (apnews.com)

The Coast Guard has recovered remaining debris, including presumed human remains, from a submersible that imploded on its way to explore the wreck of the Titanic, killing all five onboard, deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean’s surface, officials said Tuesday....

brygphilomena,

It’s part of their mission.

Nothing in that article implies it’s over and above their normal budget. It doesn’t say either way and the Washington Post article it referenced is paywalled.

Besides this being a large part of why we have the coast guard in the first place, this is a way for them to test their training in a real world mission and see how it works and how it doesn’t.

brygphilomena,

Training. Putting their training against a real world experience and seeing where it holds up and where it doesn’t.

Because they have to do something. It’s not like they just sit there with their dicks in their hands all day.

brygphilomena,

Those taps have an o-ring inside which is supposed to slowly release giving you time to wash your hands. When they turn off immediately it’s because the part has worn and needs to be replaced.
