13esq,

Please go back to Reddit.

13esq,

May I ask what the appeal of freemasonry is in 2023?

I understand that it was historically useful for “business”, what ever that means and that some workplaces were closed shops and anyone who isn’t a free mason wouldn’t be accepted for a job role.

If someone could give me the low down, I think I would find it quite interesting.

13esq,

If I came from a parallel universe and the only difference is an easily mistaken spelling of a name I’d be quite disappointed.

How do I cope with my father hating me?

My father, who convinced me (16 m) at the time to move in with him instead of my mother when they moved. All 3 of the other siblings stayed with my mother. He then kicked me out the week I turned 18, a week into my senior year. Since then he stays in touch only to speak with his grandchildren (now going on 4 kids). I have never...

13esq,

Wanting acceptance and approval is an extremely natural thing for a human. People seek this especially from the people that they care about, whether that is family, friends, a crush or even just people in your local community.

We could argue the semantics of your statement and debate whether acceptance from a parent is a need or a want, but I think it’s besides the point and not useful to the question OP is asking.

Honestly, I’m very surprised that this isn’t obvious to you.

13esq, (edited )

A mindset of a few HAES morons who can’t understand that an unexcessive diet isn’t pure torture and are in denial, (willfully or not,) about what the other sex finds or should find attractive.

Go to any porn site and look at the most popular videos, they’re the body type that most people find attractive. Whereas chubby/fat fetishises are always much more niche.

Inb4: I’m not saying that we should all be unhappy unless we have pornstar quality bodies/partners, I know that they’re simply unattainable for many people and that it is a fantasy style of thinking. I’m saying that implying that people are sick in the head for being attracted to the most popular body types and trying to shame people in to accepting your unhealthy lifestyle is full on denial.

Edit: People will downvote me for “being an arsehole”, but I’m here to debate the truth of things the way I see them. Not to try the gentle/soft approach or to try being your friend. Sometimes the truth hurts.

13esq, (edited )

I’m not arguing that.

I’m arguing that guilt tripping anyone for being attracted to the most popular body types for no other reason than you not wanting to lose excess weight is silly and that simultainiously no one should be shamed for trying to achieve or maintain that attractive body type.

Fat arses at their battle stations in mom’s basement can seeth all they like. Stacy likes Chad, not your sweaty blob of a body, and no, your great personality will not make up for that.

13esq, (edited )

I know it’s meme terminology, it doesn’t change the point I’m trying to make and you’re just arguing about semantics.

I will admit that I used to look at women way out of my league and they were definitely not looking back, that’s what inspired me to get fit. Call me vain or a fashion victim or porn addict or anything else. I get the attention that I want now and your name calling means nothing to me, chunkystyles.

13esq, (edited )

Interesting opinion, I’ve never heard that before.

I think attractive people mostly seek relationships with other attractive people, I don’t think that’s controversial.

How many couples do you know where one is absolutely stunning with a fit body and the other looks a roast ham? You could probably cherry pick a few but it’ll be a huge minority or you’ll find out that the ugly one is a multi millionaire or something.

13esq,

“a fair number”.

A very vague answer that requires me to research your side of argument for you. Absolutely brilliant. Are you done?

13esq,

I’m pretty sure there are a lot of chubsters in this thread pissed off that they’re getting some home truths because you’ve said absolutely nothing incorrect.

13esq,

I think your point could have been little more explicit, but this thread is obviously full of bitter fatties and it’s not like it would change anything.

Imagine downvoting someone just because you’re bitter that a fit and pretty woman would aim for a fit and handsome man and vice versa.

13esq, (edited )

A lot of people simply don’t know proper hygiene because they were never taught it.

A shower doesn’t mean let the water run over you for a few minutes and then spray on some deodorant. Lather some soap in to a flannel and scrub every part of your body, and if you sweat badly use antiperspirant.

But it’s recent thing you’ve noticed. People might be cutting back on things due to budget. Not many people would admit that they’re not showering because of financial worries.

13esq,

Fair shout and well written post.

I work manual labour, so it’s a full wash for me every day!

13esq,

Fair point. When I said soap, I really meant a body wash, of which pH balanced versions are available.

13esq, (edited )

It seems silly to incentivise long commutes.

Why pay someone that drives an hour each way more than someone that cycles to work in twenty minutes?

In that example, based on a wage of £20ph, the driver would be earning £6,666 per year more than the cyclist, that’s nearly an additional £300,000 over a 45 year career… You’d be an absolute idiot to not sell your house and move as far away from your work as reasonably possible.

13esq,

Stupid ideas get stupid questions!

13esq, (edited )

You seem to assume that I was implying that the two people in the scenario live an equal distance from the work place.

My scenario implies that the cyclist might live less than ten miles from work and that the driver lives a multiple of that away and ridicules the idea of financially rewarding someone for living further away from the workplace in terms of distance, time and carbon footprint.

13esq,

I was comparing two different, but very reasonable scenarios where two employees pay would be hugely different for a very silly reason. It’s not apples and oranges.

13esq,

Why not just live near your work place and save money and time yourself instead of making it your employers problem that you have a long commute.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the appeal of getting paid more for any reason. I just don’t think that it’s going to go down well in a workplace where some people would be getting paid substantially more for no other reason than they’ve chosen a job that’s far from where they live.

13esq,

I mean, that is kind of what a paycheck is for. . .

13esq,

You’re arguing about semantics, it doesn’t change the point that I was trying to make.

13esq,

I don’t want to think about the person that had the option to go remote and yet still chose to commute every day instead.

13esq,

Be careful with over listening to a great song!

There are a few tracks that I absolutely can’t enjoy anymore only due to the sheer amount of times that I’ve already listened to them. They’re still amazing songs, but any joy I can derive from them has been ruined.

You can absolutely have too much of a good thing.

13esq, (edited )

Can we not direct people to Reddit? There are many other ways to share an image that don’t give traffic to a site that many of us came here to avoid.

13esq,

Oh yh, I totally forgot about project farm, I love that channel!

Here is the link for anyone interested

13esq,

Thank you

13esq,

So there’s no particular brand you go for, any type of rope plug is good?

13esq,

Ok that’s interesting haha

13esq,

What sort of things have you used it to make?

13esq,

I’ve had a look, not purchased, but watched a lot of review videos and I’d recommend you to do the same as no one here is going to have really tried all the different models available.

Unfortunately, the price does seem to correlate with the quality and performance and the most expensive auto vacuums cost in the £300 region. They also will never be as powerful as a traditional upright, can’t do stairs and of course you still have to empty them and take them up and down the stairs to do the different floors of your house. But yh, the price is the biggest reason I’ve not gotten one myself.

For Leftists: What happens when a content creator has a questionable guest on?

Hi. This question is for leftists mostly. If you watch a content creator that’s on the left, but they have a questionable guest on, do you continue to watch that creator or do you find a different creator to watch? I sometimes watch The Convo Couch and Danny Haiphong, but they’ve had very questionable guests on and I can’t...

Would it make sense to have #CashAwarenessMonth

Maybe December? So we all take money out of banks, at least current month salary, and spend cash only. I think that is something that shouldn’t be hard to do and it would show if we, the people, have any power left to make positive changes for the future or we can just surrender and eat bugs....

13esq,

Cashiers get paid the same no matter how many people they serve. The boss isn’t going to shake your hand and tell you well done leave alone pay a bonus for getting x amount of people through the till per hour.

Your employer failing to put adequate change in the till isn’t your problem. The next time someone pays for an $8 purchase with a hundred, chill out and enjoy the unscheduled break.

I haven’t been able to lose weight

You need to be honest with yourself here, everyone is able to lose weight (except a very small minority of people with severe mental and or health issues) and what you really mean to say is “I have not committed to losing weight”.

There is a huge difference between wanting a fit and healthy body and actually committing long term to the idea of consistently smaller portions.

And that is all it takes. You do not need to swap every meal for a shitty salad, you do not need need to run ten miles a day, you do not need to make weight loss your number one priority, you do not need the mental strength of the world’s strongest man, you do not need more time in the day or any other of the 101 excuses that overweight people use.

  • weigh yourself
  • consistently eat less
  • weigh yourself again after a few weeks/months
  • adjust the amount you eat further if necessary
  • repeat steps three and four

If you consume less calories than you burn, then you can lose weight on a diet of pizza and sitting on the couch all day.

I know what I’ve said here will come across as harsh, but it’s all absolutely true and I hope that you lose your unwanted weight, it really will help your dating prospects and it will make you feel better about yourself too!

13esq,

Occam’s razor.

You can complicate the concepts of weight gain and loss all you like, it always boils down to calories in Vs calories out.

You’ll show me 99 people that have several excuses about why they in particular can’t lose weight and I’ll only be able to show you one that holds their hands up and says “I admit it, I’m weak and I’d rather have cake now than a nice body a few months later”.

Losing weight is like stopping smoking, it’s all conjecture and day dreams until one day you say “fuck this, I’m changing and sticking with it STARTING NOW”.

Some people need tough love, not more readymade excuses.

13esq,

There’s not a one size fits all solution.

The first thing to do is cut down on snacks and sugary drinks if you have them. Refined sugars should be the easiest thing to cut out and will make a huge impact.

If you’re already doing that then it’s time to start controlling your portions. It will take some will power! I have noticed personally that I may still feel like I could eat more at the end of a meal but that if I wait ten of fifteen minutes then I feel absolutely fine. So focus on eating untill you’re not hungry rather than eating until you feel full.

Some people endorse a 5/2 diet, where they will eat normally on five days of the week and then have a very restricted diet on two days (about 300-500 calories). This will recalibrate your feeling of hunger massively, most people in the western world have never experienced real hunger. You may find that what you thought was hunger was very different to actual hunger.

I also recommend replacing your excess eating with something else. All bad habits usually need something to replace them. Whether that is drinking water or learning a new skill or reading a book or doing some exercise. Don’t just sit there and suffer, fill that time with something.

13esq,

Yh I kind of feel it was hyped up so much for me that it was always going to be disappointing.

13esq,

Maybe they think it’s not an unpopular opinion. (But yh, more likely they just don’t understand the concept of the community)

13esq,

The downvote button is not supposed to be used as an “I disagree” (although that is how many people use it). Nor are you supposed to downvote something just because you personally don’t like it or the person that wrote it.

Downvotes are for posts that are irrelevant to the community/discussion at hand, trolling, arguements that are made in bad faith and that sort of thing.

If you really want a commenter to know that you disagree with them or that you think they’re stupid, you should reply to the comment with a well thought out counter argument of your own, not just “downvote and hope the comment gets hidden”.

13esq,

You also get diminishing returns.

If you spend £400 on a bike instead of £200, it might actually be nearly twice as good, but spending £2000 doesn’t mean it will be ten times as good, when you’re in to bikes that cost £10k+ you’re talking about fractions of a percent better than the one that costs many percent less.

The top of the range items are good for enthusiasts, but almost always not worth it for casual consumers.

13esq,

£500 - £1000 is the sweet spot for electric guitars. Anything much higher than that is the exact same guitar, just with extra bling.

Acoustic/classical guitars are a bit different and even though they still suffer diminishing returns, a higher price can be more easily justified.

13esq,

Entitled parent: “I raised you, you owe me!!!”

Child: “you made a decision to bring me in to the world, I had no say in this at all”

13esq, (edited )

I don’t subscribe. I put up with a few short ads here and there. I thought that should be obvious given the other comments I’ve made in this thread.

13esq,

r/kennyvsspenny

It was a cult classic Canadian TV show from the 00’s, the subreddit was hilarious and it’s genuinely the sub I miss the most.

I really wish I knew more about setting up and modding a community.

13esq, (edited )

Everyone that protested the changes and then stayed anyway is a coward and a blaggard.

The mods that closed down their subbreddits but then reopened them as soon as Reddit threatened to de-mod them ought to be ashamed. They were literally that scared of not having their power over other redditors that they’re not only willing to work for free, but to bend the knee as soon as corporate demands it.

The only reason anyone should be going back to Reddit is for the porn, they can’t monetise it and it would be hilarious to turn Reddit in to nothing but a glorified porn site.

13esq,

Did you not think of the possibility of making one?

The dude has bricks, charcoal, twine and all sorts of things that he’s made that don’t “grow on trees”. I don’t think the idea of carving a gear from wood or even trying to cast one in ceramics is an impossible idea.

13esq,

Doublejay1999 starts sweating about how many people thought they wanted to fuck due to the amount of touching, hugging and flirting they’ve done in the workplace.

13esq,

So many people getting triggered that you like Joe Rogan hahaha.

Sorry I don’t know about the wig. Just find it hilarious how people will express their hate boners for Rogan. Has the guy even done anything that controversial?
