There is nothing in this that reflects the title. It’s nothing more than passive propaganda. They are relying on people to just read the title and not open the link.

What is actually said is:

And let me just end by saying that this reflects the political reality that nations are sovereign. Nations decide themselves, and Ukraine has of course the right to decide its own path. And it’s up to Ukraine and NATO Allies to decide when Ukraine becomes a member. Russia cannot veto membership for any sovereign independent state in Europe.

Some Presidents should stick to declaring only things they have control over.

There is only one country that is constantly threatening a nuclear attack. That country is not in NATO.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Not arguing there. But this was 80 years ago. You would think that making threats of this nature would be something that you would show restraint considering we have a history.

Mexico will not join BRICs because they would then have to leave USMCA trade agreement. Cuba, your nearest neighbour, can do whatever it wants. The US does not get to dictate anymore by military might. They have done in the past. To do so today would bring other trade deals into conflict. The EU would be very against this. This does not mean the US cannot use its financial might, which it clearly does and often.

Also none of this factors in that joining NATO, by definition, involves giving up some part of your nations sovereignty. NATO in reality acts as an extended arm of the US military and it’s industrial complex, and in joining, countries are subjected to this reality of Atlanticism.

Simply not true. Being part of NATO is not an aggressive pact. It is only enacted if another member is attacked. One or more members being aggressive does not mean the rest have to follow. The US and the UK attacked Iran as individual nations. The US has the biggest say in NATO because they spend more than anyone else by quite some distance. Something that is changing because of the Russian attempts to annex Ukraine into its own borders.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

They dropped a bomb on a nation that was guilty of murdering up to 10m people. They were also not the initial aggressive beligerant. They do not have control with 80 nations, they have a non aggression pact. Yep, there are parts of the US media that is screwed up. That comes with free press. Does Russia have a free press? There is only one country that is looking to test out the mad doctrine, who also sent nuclear weapons to a vassal state: Russia.

Name them?

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Sooo no names eh. I don’t believe there is any tbh.

Might be an idea not to attack a country with that policy then eh.

Let us see that same opinion once you have been the victim of a burglary. I have replaced two back doors to the tune of a few thousand quid. I spent years with higher home insurance because of the claims. Yet they never even got in. My cameras only record when my property line is breeched.

I totally agree people should research news stories these days. It is easy to make money from sensationalism. However, in this light:

For example, EA was voted “Worst Company in America” multiple years in a row, when it’s really just a software company whose worst sins would probably amount to gross overworking/general poor treatment of their employees.

How about loot boxes and how it was designed to attract the gullible to throw cash at the company. Those gullible people stole money from parents in some cases and bankrupted them in the process. So no, this is not some minor discretion. EA was recognised within the gaming community as being the most egregious when it came to loot boxes, but they are certainly not a solo entity in this type of venture.

I agree this is still not as bad as the tragedy that chocolate companies have adopted to make money. They don’t just use child labour though, there is plenty evidence of children being abducted into slavery also.

As for NK being not a wonderful place to live. This is not true as it is a great place to live for some. Even George Orwell recognised that by stating “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”.

Syldon,

Just remember how much Cummings had to do with Brexit and his links to 55 Tufton St. He is nothing more than a front man to make money for the rich.

Busy playing Shadow tactics: blades of the shogun ATM. I have Aiko’s choice already, but haven’t opened it yet. The series comes highly recommended in reviews. Blades of the shogun hasn’t disappointed so far. Just a very slow moving game that you pick up to fill in a bit of time.

I used to love the NFS series. I really wish they would remove that 3rd party DRM. It is nothing but spyware IMO.

When was the last time you saw a milkman on a bus?

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

London has one of the best transport system in the country.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

You do not actually see many milkmen these days. A milkman’s business was ran a bit like McDonalds’s with the milkman buying the as an individual and then selling it door to door. Every single milkman that I have known has worked from home.

So kind of a bad example but I get your point. No not all people can work from home, but those who can should surely be given that option. I have a wife who is a civil servant. She is required to travel to work for 40% of her hours worked. This is for no other reason than going into work by direction of the Tory party. This was not really an issue until they moved the place of work 8 miles away. She literally has to pay for a bus, sit on a bus for an hour each way, while carrying all her PC equipment with her, just so she can do exactly the same job while sitting in an office. All her meetings are done online, even while in the office. So there is a lot to be said regarding this Tory agenda of forcing people to work from the office just to appease their Donors.

This must mean every newspaper is also the bad guy in Skyfall. What is the difference between the NYT doing this and Assange? And why should the consequences be different?

For a country that is ready to shoot their neighbour for the 1st amendment, it seems you only want that for yourselves.

So…I’ve been increasingly struggling to run the latest games, as the age of my 6 years old desktop is starting to show, and Starfield denying my GPU just pissed me. I know it’s a bug and I can probably play it, but it’s outright the minimum for this game, and so I’d like a refresh of the worst, or should I consider a...

You are not allowed to say things like that without being accused of being antisemitic. What Israel is doing in Palestine is worse than what happened in South Africa. SA had to concede due to global condemnation, and yet we see Israel committing apartheid crimes without anyone batting an eyelid in defence of the people there. The world is very quick to condemn extremist groups within the Muslim religion.

If you have not listened to it already I highly recommend listening to the Yuval Noah Harari interview on the rest is politics. This not only reminds you that not all of the Jews in Israel have this genocidal attitude, but also helps you understand what it is that the country of Israel is up against.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Listen to the podcast I linked. This is the opinion from a Jew from the country Israel. He specifically states it is about religion, and how there are parts of the Jewish religion see themselves above all others. This is being done in such an abhorrent way that parts of the Israeli army are striking and refusing to serve.

What credible sources do you have to state otherwise. A randomer commenting on something they disagree with just does not cut it for me.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

They want to take that land, water and resources away from people of what they see as the wrong religion.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

At what point did I say this was only against one religion?

Israel has been and still running a campaign that has a detrimental result to anyone who is not part of their favoured religion. This may be to take advantage of land, resources or water. Some of it is just plain outright nastiness. But the bias has always been against none Israelis.

The guy in the podcast is literally telling you that there is a campaign against anyone who is not part of the right group. He is from Israel and taking an active role against this extremism. This is becoming more exacerbated with infighting of the Jewish community themselves. Netanyahu is listening to the more extremist factions of the Jewish religion and acting on it.

And many Israelis committing war crimes in the IOF are atheist.

Being atheist does not mean you cannot have a bias. What sort of a conclusion is this?

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

its reputation for developing and upholding the rule of law.

This is well and truly shattered by the current incumbents.

People need to understand the importance of the ECHR. It is a court that can counteract injustices within the UK. The people involved in the Hillsborough disaster were only able to get justice by taking their case to the ECHR. Had it been left to the government of the day, they would not have seen any justice. There are protections with the ECHR that you cannot entrust to the hands of your own government.

When you get bad actors like Braverman, this is our only reprieve from them being giving a free hand. ECHR is not just about protecting members of other countries; it is about protecting the citizens of all the countries involved including UK citizens. A government would only ever leave the ECHR if it had a desire to cause harm. This could be against us as members of the UK as well as those who have refugee claims.

It really does look like this. Without competent voter reform, we are looking down the barrel of the circle jerk. The Tories will make a return in the future, and they will have learned the lessons of the past. We may not escape them a second time.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Media reform is in the interests of Labour. I could see this one changing in the next parliament, but we will have to wait and see. As has been well reported, Starmer met with Murdoch. If he panders to the Murdoch narrative then that is an extremely bad sign for UK politics. FPTP has produced a gravy train, and money follows money where ever it may go. It will be an uphill battle.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

All well and good, but that still does not make a Macbook value for money.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

I am spending more and more on older games these days. Every new full price game I have bought has disappointed me massively. I pumped hundreds of hours into Grim and the expansions for less than £20 in sales. Currently playing through shadow tactics: blades of the shogun. I bought that and the DLC Aiko’s choice for £8 earlier this week. There are a ton of these in the series, so i am set for a long time it seems.

My last full game price experience was Hogwart’s legacy. I have 108 minutes played. I reckon I have actually played 15 minutes in that. The rest was just video after video of story telling. I am normally someone who skips cutscenes, so this is a really bad match for me. Hogwarts has an 84% positive rating. A lot of people like this sort of stuff, just not me unfortunately.

No one in the West wants to touch anything that benefits Russia atm, because to do so is self-defeating. This is not a result of choice, but of necessity. The EU are also making large strides towards NZ now. The individual countries will stop buying this gas at the earliest opportunity. Individual countries being pertinent as each country is responsible for their own energy supply.

It was to make the male seem more important. Even in English the word “woman” comes from “wife man”. Everything was about the pecking order in history. Gender bias was a major part of that.

Syldon,

It is the intonation that matters more than anything else. The wording itself has very little meaning until it is meant as an insult or a compliment.

Even the heat of the day would make a panel warp more than is being stated. It is just sales BS to make him look good.

No two cars are ever the same. Even with robots panels move in jigs. There is usually a guy at the end of a line who has the job of body adjust. Paint shops warp the crap out of a car body in the baking phase.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

It is not possible to build car parts to that level of precision. They will warp more than that in the heat of the day. It is just a marketing pitch to the idiots who buy his crap.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

This is provided those beliefs are not offensive. If someone finds those practises offensive then do them out of the view of the public.

Religious violence should have a law encompassing this. People should never be allowed to use religion as an excuse to use violence: this is why we have a legal system. I do not understand why most countries in Europe are tolerant on this when it comes to the Muslim and Jewish communities.

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

O aye so who should make that call?

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

That worked well with Hitler didn’t it?

People are idiots who follow a crowd. Give me one justification for the Kardashians. Look at how long it took for gay rights laws. And then look at how long it is taking for those laws to be accepted. We still see homophobic and racial acts today. Relying on the good of people is simply crass.

There is already a rule for this:

3… No spam posting/trolling.

I don’t object to it being shown once, but the repetition should not be allowed. As someone has already said Politics pervades everything, it would be a difficult one to enforce. So instead of trying to reinvent the wheel just stop the trolling.

Won’t ever happen that way, unless government sky rocket the cost of ownership. People are selfish and will fight that tooth and nail. Just look at the reaction to the ULEZ, and they are willing to buy the old junk from them.

Corporate has corrupted the train system in the US. People have become secondary to company profits. I watched this a while back and couldn’t believe the US has allowed this.
