Shikadi,

No they added more crappy pve that isn’t any better than the old pve

Oh wait

Shikadi,

Activision

Shikadi,

Guys, you missed the block chain boat, this isn’t going to save your IPO

What made you choose your instance?

Following the spirit of spreading across the Fediverse (and because my main instance is down so many times, because diverse reasons) I’m intrigued about the joining instance process, because I honestly don’t know what criteria to have in order to join another one if I ever want to do it....

Shikadi,

Started with wirebase.org because it’s local, but there was a lot of downtime. Switched to lemmy.sdf.org because they’re also local, but are also a really old group that still hosts Usenet stuff. I’ve recently learned that they have never defederated though, and so I’m considering leaving because I don’t believe in giving a platform to obvious disinformation and hate campaigns.

Shikadi,

Right wing is the one that actively and openly hurts people, so yeah I do see a difference tbh

Shikadi,

I feel like I have no other option. iPhones are better in principle, but the interface is awful. No back button alone is already a complete deal breaker for me. Samsung is bloatware, OnePlus is foreign spyware on top of Google’s spyware.

Shikadi,

So sad it didn’t take off, I would love to have an alternative to Android or iOS right now

Shikadi,

That happened a lot in NY too, I think we called them sticker shops

Maybe later... how about never, you fucks?

It is endlessly frustrating that companies have universally decided that they won’t let people say “no” to stuff, ever. There are no longer options to reject stupid-ass new “features”, only postponement until next time you open the app/website/program. They’ll continue pestering you for the rest of your life. I...

Shikadi,

I’ve been pissed about this for a decade

Shikadi,

Not to be that guy, but for at least a few years recently I have had zero issues printing from arch and tons of issues printing from Windows on the same printer lol

Shikadi,

They’re pretty solid budget cars these days. The choice between a Chevy and a Hyundai is obvious.

Shikadi,

Do you mean timing belt? (Chains don’t go on pulleys) You’re supposed to change those… That’s just called not maintaining your vehicle

Shikadi,

Same

Shikadi,

Which year/model or engine? Worth noting many car manufacturers have struggled with timing chain issues on at least one engine. VW struggled with it on more than one engine, BMW, I’m pretty sure there was even a Honda or Toyota engine that had a weak timing chain system at some point. If they actually stopped making the engine because of it, good on them, because other manufacturers (especially VW) definitely don’t. Other Hyundai engines have rock solid reputations. One bad experience is called an anecdote, and it’s not a good reason to discredit a brand.

Shikadi,

Ah yeah that one wasn’t a very good one, it got recalled for crankshaft manufacturing defects and they got sued when the problem ended up being worse than anticipated and the money they set aside wasn’t enough. The early genesis coupes were also pretty unreliable in general. Actually, I’d say Hyundai was unreliable in general in the 2000s. They were a mixed bag, the 2009 Elantra had a rock solid drivetrain but crappy electronics for example, and the theta 2 engines were plagued with failures. But pretty much anything 2015+ is rock solid, they seem to have learned from that one.

I didn’t realize you were talking about Hyundai as of like 15 years ago, though that should have been obvious since the car in your story was 10 years old

Shikadi,

They were also pretty reliable in the 90s bleeding into the early 2000s lol

Shikadi,

People downvote but it’s true. Most cancer can already be cured if we detect it early, and we have many early detection methods that go un-used because it costs insurance companies more. The scientific/medical arguments against routine screening are weak and pathetic.

Shikadi,

It’s not that bold, it’s something people have been saying for a long time. It’s been hotly debated for years, and there’s plenty of articles and YouTube videos discussing it

Shikadi,

Part of the reason I consider those arguments weak, is we could be dedicating research money to solving those problems, but we don’t. In his video, he also is very quickly glossing over the counter points. For example, the patient who received a heart stent because they detected early narrowing of an artery would not be given a stent today, and instead it would be monitored, which is a good thing. For the breast cancer bit, two paragraphs show up on the screen showing a study that followed women with DCIS. 5/28 of those women died of breast cancer. So by the numbers in that study, testing positive means you would have an 18% chance of dying from breast cancer if you did nothing. Idk about you, but if my ods were practically 1 in 5 I’d be monitoring the situation. Again in the anecdote the patient chose to operate too early, and a good doctor would be advising against that. Lead time bias is the only argument I think isn’t weak, but there also isn’t really enough data on it for us to know for sure. That and the fact that deaths to cancer remains steady instead of going down as diagnosis goes up. I still think it would be better to screen people and monitor them if they test positive rather than wait for symptoms, because so often the symptoms come far too late. I also think more research could be done to reduce false positives and understand what makes some cancer not deadly. It’s severely under funded research because it doesn’t make money and it isn’t glamorous, but it could absolutely save lives

Shikadi,

I was trying to politely say go look it up yourself and form your own opinion

Shikadi,

Steve Jobs died because he tried homeopathic treatment the second time, so you can take him off that list lol.

Shikadi,

I mean, the treatment he had the first time worked, seems to me like it would make sense to do it again, especially with the advances in the treatment since the first time

Shikadi,

Sort of. There are colleges within university in the US too, we just don’t usually talk about it

Shikadi,

ISIS, religion, terrorism

Shikadi,

Kill enemy, save, make certain jump, save. Takes a lot of risk out of the game. I like when games let you save anywhere but if you restart the game or load your save you start in the beginning of a room regardless of where you saved from. (Like ocarina of time)

Shikadi,

It’s a balancing act, artistic choice and such. Also depending on the company, it might be designed to increase engagement to keep you addicted

Shikadi,

Things have actually gotten worse for me. With how crappy Reddit has been over the last few years in terms of how engaging my feed is, I’ve been spending less time on it naturally. Now on Lemmy I find myself addicted again, spending 3 hours in a row some days, after having already used it throughout the day. I’m thinking about giving up Lemmy and Reddit all together, wondering if my comments are even valuable to society and what not. I think maybe I’d be happier without either. Not saying you would be, or that others shouldn’t be on Lemmy, just that I personally struggle with it and it interferes with my life sometimes.

Shikadi,

Idk where you live, but much of the world already lacks privacy

Shikadi,

What I meant is, I literally don’t know where you live, so I don’t know why it doesn’t impact you “outside the west”

Shikadi,

I dislike this meme, it’s inaccurate

Shikadi,

Make an Elon musk community

Shikadi,

How did you block an instance?

Shikadi,

Yup, sometimes when I’m dealing with something in real life I imagine handling the conflict in different ridiculous ways. Usually irl it ends up being handled smoothly, but on the rare occasion that the beginning of one of my imagined scenarios come true, I always end up getting a huge spike of anxiety that makes me try to get out of the situation as quickly as possible instead of doing things the way I had imagined

Shikadi,

Lol too bad facial recognition doesn’t work like that

Shikadi,

Maybe 5 years ago, but not (usually) any more

Shikadi,

I’m a software engineer and I work in machine vision hardware. I may have been lazy with my response, but I do know what I’m talking about. On some level I’m probably in a bubble because I work close enough to the cutting edge of things that I wouldn’t expect any modern company to be employing such basic algorithms to a solved problem.

I’m a software engineer and I can confirm that you are absolutely fucking rude on this one.

Shikadi,

Yes, it does work like that in some cases. My comment is technically wrong, the best kind of wrong.

As another commenter pointed out, the way they intend to do it sounds absolutely like they are going to do it the old way, which surprises me because the hold up a photo thing has been a solved problem for a while.

Shikadi,

she supports net neutrality so that’s nice

Shikadi,

You know he’s not still Chairman right? That’s why I said she not he?

Shikadi,

en.m.wikipedia.org/…/Cleopatra_race_controversyHer race is actually heavily debated by historians, so that’s not a very clear cut example.

Shikadi,

I brought up Hamilton because it’s particularly not a documentary

Shikadi,

You’re right, based on that article. It doesn’t matter, I’m just pointing out that it wasn’t just a random choice to make her black. I’d argue they should have made her Iranian to be more accurate, but the claim is that people are randomly just changing skin colors in documentaries all willy nilly and so far the only example is a weak one.

Shikadi,

And it did
