Anticorp,

If you’re a senior engineer, then you should have a team of juniors doing most of the coding. Your job is to architect, peer review, meet with stakeholders, etc… At least that has been my experience. Unless you are on one of those small teams with all senior engineers and then you have to do all of the above, and the coding too. I’ve had that experience as well.

Anticorp,

“It is not enough for me to succeed, others must fail.”

–some Senior yearbook entry I saw on the Internet 10 years ago

Anticorp,

We already saw that with nothing more than two words. Trump started the “fake news” craze, and now 33% of Americans dismiss anything that contradicts their views as fake news, without giving it any thought or evaluation. If a catch phrase is that powerful, imagine how much more powerful video and photography will be. Even in 2019 there was a deep fake floating around of Biden with a Gene Simmons tongue, licking his lips, and I personally know several people who thought it was real.

Anticorp,

It’s really disgusting. It was a great platform for keeping in touch with long distance friends and family. If you kept your friends list trimmed to people you know, then it was actually a really fun platform. Now it’s like all the worst parts of corporate internet all glommed together on a single site. I see maybe 1-2 of my actual friend’s posts, and the rest is all absolute crap. Hundreds of billions of dollars wasn’t enough for zuck? Nope! He just had to go and squeeze every last cent out of the site, even if it meant burning it to the ground. It’s not even worth visiting anymore. I was still visiting to see my memories, but now he’s slowly breaking that functionality too. Congratulations Facebook, you’re awful.

Anticorp,

Sex too.

Edit: so I guess two things

Anticorp,

You know what’s unsafe? Putting a long-ass disclosure about keeping your eyes on the road that you have to close before you can use your infotainment center. We know how to drive, dude. Adding a distraction doesn’t improve safety, it makes it worse.

Anticorp,

Chevy is still all about knobs, which is the proper way to create car controls. Ford is pretty heavy into a full touch screen control center, which is really annoying as a driver.

Anticorp,

You go into your house and get me 5 Adderall, or I’m going to slit your throat, kill your family, and rape your dog!

Anticorp,

Erlach is hilarious, all throughout that show. I stopped watching in season 3, but the first 2 seasons are pure comedy gold.

Anticorp,

Everything, everywhere, all at once, you say?

Anticorp,

That was a cool design. Idk why they axed it.

Anticorp,

“Here’s a website that you needed to install on your phone to see!”

Anticorp,

Definitely! I work at a computer 8-10 hours per day, 5 days a week. The last thing I want to do when I’m done working is sit at computer some more. I do almost all of my browsing on my phone. Firefox Mobile Nightly, plus NextDNS, plus Nord VPN, plus uBlock origin, plus a fake user agent string. I’m pretty secure on my phone.

Anticorp,

Yup. That plus steal all your contacts and anything else they can get direct or indirect permissions for.

Isn’t the video game industry booming? What’s up with the layoffs? Is this the work of ChatGPT?

Edit: typo

Anticorp,

If you message cross-platform from Android to iOS, and you can’t get everyone to agree upon a 3rd party app, then you’re kind of stuck with sms. This isn’t a problem that is going away in the near future. Apple relies on their locked messaging platform to influence their users into thinking iOS is the best. The users then pressure all of their friends to get iPhones too. It’s an effective strategy for them. Very few iPhone users seem to understand the games being played.

Anticorp,

What is the Kobo store experience like? I’ve been thinking about replacing my Kindle with one for a while now. But I often finish books in bed and download the next in the series without getting up. The idea of getting up in the middle of the night to side load stuff doesn’t sound very appealing, nor does having to always buy books ahead of time to have them ready. On that note, can you download demo books from the Kobo store to see if you like them before buying?

Anticorp,

Thanks for the response. Preview, as in a sample that gives you enough of the book to make a judgement on it?

Anticorp,

Thanks! That helps a lot.

Anticorp,

Maybe copyright infringement on her voice?

Anticorp,

Anything from L.L. Bean.

Levi’s, but not the ones you buy at box stores like Walmart and Target. They make special shitty ones for those stores that don’t last a year. Get them from Macy’s, or the Levi’s website. I have 20 year old Levi’s that I still wear. I also have newer Levi’s, so I can say that you can still get the good ones. They need to have the model number on them, not a description. If it says something like “low rise, casual fit” or any other cut description instead of a number, don’t buy it. Those are the junk ones.

Eddie Bauer makes a pretty good pant. I liked my last pair so much that I wore them like 3-4 days per week for 3 years before the pocket started fraying. Not bad for a $15 pair of pants from Costco.

Kühl makes good pants, but they’re expensive. You can find them at REI.

Anticorp,

Unfortunately these are trendy in certain circles now, so the prices are rising. Good pants though.

The biggest challenge is that the woods aren’t what they used to be. 150 years ago you could walk into the forest and see animals and berries everywhere. Nowadays, you’d need to hunt for days on end to find something like a deer, or a beaver, and you’d be lucky to find a source of naturally growing berries. You can still survive in the wilderness, but it’s a lot harder than it used to be, and it was never easy.

Edit: forest animal depletion at 53% 1970-2014. That’s just in that time frame. Before 1970 was an even more dramatic drop in forest population, to the tune of 90%. We’re on our last few animals now.

Newpipe. Newpipe. Newpipe!

Anticorp,

Well you as a DM set the DC. If it makes sense to work then set it to 3 or something, or just make it free. But setting it to succeed on anything except for critical failure makes sense, since anyone can flub their grand moment.

Anticorp,

There are abilities and gear that lower your crit requirement, but usually only by 1, so 5% higher chance of crit. I agree that your crit chance should go up as you get better, but only in relation to the skill of your opponent. Like I’m sure Bruce Lee could punch me exactly where he wants to 100% of the time, but not so much against Donny Yen. The pathfinder system sounds smart.

It’s definitely possible for people who have mastered things to critically fail. How many times have you drunk water in your life? Millions of times? But every rare once in a while you mess it up so bad that you put water into your windpipe. That’s a critical failure. But the chances of it happening when you’ve mastered something should certainly be far lower than 5%.

Anticorp,

Szass Tam was a fine upstanding citizen.

Anticorp,

I know someone like this. It’s pretty sad that they’re so sad. I can sit alone all day and be perfectly content. They are alone and it makes them miserable.

Anticorp,

It’s definitely a LinkedIn bug, and not a Firefox bug. It’s amazing how little these enormous internet companies care about the quality of their websites.

Anticorp,

Magic legs… You got magic legs, Lt. Dan!

Anticorp,

So squid game was a true story.

Anticorp,

I knew it was my time to join the old group when “slaps” became popular.

Anticorp,

I see it online all the time.

Anticorp,

It’s used to imply something is good, ie. “that slaps!”

Anticorp,

It was two characters, Greg and Tamara in Once Upon a Time. The show is campy, but it’s still really entertaining. When those two showed up it went from campy, to very stupid. Idk how you can make a couple of characters in a fairy tale story seem completely unbelievable, when you’re able to pull off the whole fairy tale to begin with, but that’s what happened. I shut several episodes off as soon as those two popped up on screen. S3 Spoilers below:

I was super glad when they were finally killed.

Anticorp,

I read once that your body does it when your blood is low in oxygen, but I have no idea if that’s true or not.

Anticorp,

Right? What he means is that he’s oblivious to what people want.

Anticorp,

Also pushing pop-ups everywhere, except this time they’re part of the site and we can’t easily block them.

Anticorp,

I’m out of the loop. What happened? Did someone decompile their code and find definitive proof of a throttle for Firefox?

Anticorp,

It was intergalactic planetary.

Planetary

Planetary

Anticorp,

and the systems that uphold them as well.

This is the most important point. Governments at every level are discarding constitutional law, and embracing fascism in opposition of American ideals. Cops couldn’t do this without the support of city, county, state, and federal programs to give them what they want.

Anticorp,

Idk if you consider this fake or not, but there’s considerably more plastic surgery, Botox, veneers, teeth bleaching, and appearance oriented behaviors these days. Especially in movies, but also in real life. There’s not a single actor with natural teeth now, except for Steve Buschimi. Even he probably bleaches his teeth. You used to see people everywhere as they were naturally. Now it’s very common to see people who have had cosmetic procedures done. There’s also a lot more bodybuilding and body sculpting now. That one is possibly a positive, since it contributes to a person’s overall health. Go watch a movie from the 70’s. The actors look like real people. Now every actor looks like digitally sculpted perfection.

Anticorp,

Aren’t they all clones of Bubba Fet?

Anticorp,

A mook? What’s a mook? You can’t call me a mook.
