I treat my tools well and even baby the fancy ones a bit. But god damn, they’re fking tools, they’re meant to be used and eventually everything breaks.
Its also because big ass herbivores are actually really dangerous.
Sharks don’t actually like the taste of humans because we’re a little too lean. So they won’t actively hunt you unless they’re starving. There’s only really one reason why a shark is out to get you. There’s many reasons a herbivore will mess you up.
A big herbivore will fk you up because he’s having a bad day and you got too close. Or its mating season and everyone is potential competition. Or they mistook you for a predator cause of their poor eyesight. Or a bird flew away nearby and one of them got startled and now you’re in a path of a stampede.
They’re not just a pest to all humanity, but dogs and other animals as well because they can carry a parasite known as heart worm. I’m sure there are a bunch of other terrible diseases they carry as well.
Bats aren’t solely dependent on mosquitoes either. For all I car they can find something else to eat.
When you’ve seen family members you love suffer from dengue, malaria or whatever other fked up shit they spread, it becomes personal.
I’m a heavy emoji user, texting is such a poor medium for communication, many times people get the wrong message, but with an emoji you’ll get an idea of the face I’m making, so less chance of misunderstanding...
Have you tried changing your brushing technique? From my time working in a dentist’s office as an assistant, its usually the brushing technique that most people get wrong. You’re supposed to focus on where the teeth and gums meet.
I recommend the first 2 from the link above. They’re the most similar to how most people already brush their teeth so its an easy transition. The only real difference is you angle your toothbrush 45° away from the surface of your teeth. Doesn’t matter if you angle it up or down.
This is actually incorrect. After eating your mouth is becomes a very acidic environment, it means the tooth enamel is at its softest. Brushing at that point only erodes the enamel faster, leading to sensitive teeth.
Gargle first. Wait an hour before brushing, it will allow your saliva to neutralize the acidity and allow the enamel time to remineralize.
I hate how big some phones have become. I wear cargo pants most of the time and i have difficulty fitting almost any flagship phone into the side pockets.
I’ve exhausted things I can sleep to on Netflix, and it’s literally impossible to sleep to things on Prime (so I barely watch anything there; it’s not worth falling asleep to something I like, since I might be punished for it), so I’ve started putting on YouTube in the evenings since it won’t wake me with silence at...
Here are some I enjoy. All have a good voice, not overly expressively and no sudden change in background tracks. No sudden screaming/explosions/anything that will wake you.
John Michael Godier Science/Speculative Scifi, Low Soothing voice, even has a sleep playlist.
Issac Arthur Sci-Fi, Calm voice, Good background track, Long Videos
Forgotten Weapons Firearms, Historical and Mechanical overviews and indepth discussions. I recommend you skip the shooting range stuff if you’re trying to sleep.
The issue with YouTube is that while they don’t produce their own content, they’re currently hosting a wealth of information and there is no competitor at this moment who can come close to consolidating all that archival information.
I don’t mean react videos or mrbeast. If those ever disappeared from the face, nothing of value would have been lost.
I mean science, history and engineering channels. Tutorials and full blown college or university lectures. Documentaries. Archival videos and audio recordings. There is a great wealth of information currently hosted on YouTube and they’re holding it hostage.
Those will have to find a new home and it will likely be spread out over different hosting services so we will lose the convenience of having all this great information under one roof. Look at how dispersed lemmy is at the moment. I have no doubt that Lemmy will eventually match reddit, but lets be honest. We lose a great centralized location for information, tech support and memes.
Don’t get me wrong. I never said it was a good thing.
But unfortunately its what we have now. Same thing with Wikipedia. If they one day decided they wanted to squeeze a few pennies out of Wikipedia or just close shop overnight, we’d all be shit outta luck because its the only massive scale encyclopedia around. Nothing else comes close.
We should absolutely seek to decentralize that repository of videos yet somehow maintain the ease of having a collective index we can easily scour through to find the information we need.

The main symptom of CO poisoning is sleepiness. By the time you realise it you’re just thinking to yourself I’m tired and I’m going to take a quick nap, then you never wake up.
CO2 poisoning is easy to spot because you’re suddenly very breathless and hyperventilating for air.
This is because our respiration is controlled by the percentage of CO2 in our blood. Not by the amount of oxygen. So we actually don’t react to most gases, we just KO and thats it. If no one removes you from that area, you’re a goner.
While I appreciate we’re discussing hypothetical DND scenarios, I’d just like to take a moment to highlight the dangers as it’s an actual risk we deal with in reality. (Cars and heating systems)
CO is a very dangerous gas for a reason. Its known as a silent killer because while there are symptoms, it’s mild and easily mistaken for other medical issues. Its not uncommon to be wrongly diagnosed by medical professionals. CO works by binding to hemoglobin 200% stronger than oxygen and stays bound for hours. So unlike nitrogen hypoxia, where once you brought back to a high oxygen environment, you will start recovering, CO poisoning remains. Even a 100% Oxygen environment will not in itself save you from severe poisoning because the CO is so strongly bound to your blood that oxygen cannot displace it.
Anyways in a (near 100%) flooded environment, the players are already dead when they feel the symptoms. Once CO is bound to their blood stream the only treatment is hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Good to know information:
0-9 ppm CO: no health risk; normal CO levels in air. 10-29 ppm CO: problems over long-term exposure; chronic problems such as headaches, nausea 30-35 ppm CO: flu-like symptoms begin to develop, especially among the young and the elderly. 36-99 ppm CO: flu-like symptoms among all; nausea, headaches, fatigue or drowsiness, vomiting.
100+ ppm CO: severe symptoms; confusion, intense headaches; ultimately brain damage, coma, and/or death, especially at levels 300-400+ ppm

It grabs attention. Tell everyone the world is getting better daily, the long term trend of violent crime and war is actually trending downwards. We are making progress towards elimination of diseases, hunger and poverty. No one bats an eyelid. Say the world is verging toward WW3 and imminent destruction is here and everyone pays attention to you.
Its easy to be in a fatalistic mindset. Its easy to say its all going to shit, What’s the point? It’s difficult to be positive. Its difficult to take action. No matter how small. Its difficult to see the ultimate impact of small positive acts. But every small act can and does make a difference. At least to the person it benefits. Its even more difficult to face the fact that all the positive can be easily undone by one guy pressing a button. Its difficult to keep trying despite that fact.
Some people want to be able to watch a movie “for the first time” all over again. Others want to forget a rubbish one. If you could remove just one movie from your memory, which would it be?
For me its never a constant. Some days I feel like a rock star and other days I’m questioning my competence to so much as use a screwdriver.
But I remind myself thats okay. If I’m unsure it means there’s a new challenge, it means I’m learning and I trust myself to figure it out someday.
I think people just like to share when they’re feeling down, so we see more posts like that. It makes for better engagement and entertainment. Besides no one likes a braggart and it’s hard not to come off as one when talking about achievements.
