PraiseTheSoup,

I assume your problem is with the metadata? Just search for a “free mp3 audio tag tool” or similar and you should be able to find several options. Some of them might only do 100 tracks for free but there are workarounds. I’ve used several of them but it’s been years. Nowadays I just rip all my own CDs into .flac with EAC or ABCDE depending on which computer I’m using and let it do the tagging for me.

PraiseTheSoup,

I like to hate on M$ as much as the next lemmy nerd but honestly they made a lot of great hardware for many years. The M2000 is still my favorite mouse and my daily driver for years. They’ve also made the best console controllers for years and the competition isn’t even close there.

PraiseTheSoup,

I actually do still use an old version of winamp on my PC and poweramp on my phone, but my library now is almost entirely flac. Still working on phasing out some old mp3s…

PraiseTheSoup,

I actually tried doing that when I first decided to start archiving my own CDs. I ripped with abcde to flac but kept both copies. The idea was to keep .wav as a sort of “master” original and then copy the flacs to my phone and laptop for listening. That way if something happened I could always go back to my “masters” without having to rip the CD again.

Honestly the wav files aren’t that much bigger than flac and I feel like storage wouldn’t be much of an issue today, but I started this project several years ago when an 8TB hard drive was still $600+ and I quickly ran out of space.

PraiseTheSoup,

The music genome project

PraiseTheSoup,

but it no longer has a Microsoft store, which was the 2nd best place to nerd out after the Lego store

PraiseTheSoup,

Yep, and it’s really obvious if you’ve driven into the state from the east. You find yourself wondering when you’re gonna get to Colorado and realize you’ve been driving in it for 3 hours, it just looks exactly the same as the last 10 hours.

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

PraiseTheSoup,

I’m playing Tears of the Kingdom now and it’s the only game that’s kept my attention since Dark Souls 3. I am not generally a fan of open world games. Even as a huge souls fan I didn’t really care for Elden Ring. But this Zelda game is incredible. There is so much more going on than I expected and it is just plain fun.

PraiseTheSoup,

and sometimes we do care about successful delivery but need to handle that ourselves

Am I right to assume this is generally carried out by the users’ torrent client which is why we prefer UDP for torrenting?

PraiseTheSoup,

Not only do you need to do all that but sometimes it still doesn’t work. I get an error every time I try to patch the apk and it fails. I just gave up and went back to NewPipe. It’s not as feature rich but it works great for the one-off videos I watch.

PraiseTheSoup,

Streaming is always worse than running natively.

PraiseTheSoup,

$125 million and the game still sucks. I beat it at launch and I can’t even tell where they spent all that money. Hotdog textures must be expensive.

PraiseTheSoup,

Since you mentioned you’ve never used Linux, you may find it amusing that similar windows compatibility software exists for Linux and is called Wine. Whisky and Wine.

PraiseTheSoup,

Warcraft reforged barely even functions compared to the original game that they ruined. The whole company is trash from the top to the bottom.

PraiseTheSoup,

Why does this weird neckbeardy shit have all these upvotes? Madam, really? Embarrassing.

PraiseTheSoup,

Y’all could be the kindest people but I’d never know because I simply cannot stand the amount of inline media spam in every single @hexbear thread. It’s obnoxious to read and detracts from any amount of intelligent conversation that could be occurring.

PraiseTheSoup,

I used RiF for 9 years. I miss it too. But I’m using Sync for lemmy and it shows me the full link and that it’s from YouTube. Maybe check it out.

PraiseTheSoup,

Both of these deals strictly applied to older titles without a “new release” sticker, meaning they are not applicable in this context.

PraiseTheSoup,

I’ve never owned a dedicated Blu-ray player but I’ve been watching them on my Xbox for years and this got me curious so I disconnected it from the Internet and grabbed a few discs to test.

American History X, Mad Max Fury Road, and John Wick 3 with Blu-ray package release dates of 2009, 2015, and 2020, respectively. All three Blu-rays play just fine with no Internet connection. Unfortunately I don’t have anything newer to see if this is a more recent change.

PraiseTheSoup,

Likely what happens is that while the existing options are fine for the masses, a power user has a specific use case that is not covered by said options, so they create their own program to fit their specific needs. Eventually this new program evolves into something that is also useful to the masses, and that’s how we get to where we are now with several good FOSS options.

PraiseTheSoup,

What are the advantages to running it as a daemon outside of the obvious malicious ones?

PraiseTheSoup,

My current Moto G works the same way.

Top 20 games played on Steam Deck in the past month, sorted by playtime.

@steamdeck

PraiseTheSoup,

You could almost certainly stream it from your Xbox to the deck if you wanted to.

PraiseTheSoup,

Except the part where you had to play Beatles music

PraiseTheSoup,

Is there no option to download it on a PC and use a flash drive to install to the vehicle? Or are they saying install time is 1-2 hours because the hardware is that bad?

PraiseTheSoup,

and also X Hero Siege and Hero Line Wars

PraiseTheSoup,

Blizzard destroyed warcraft 3, quite possibly the greatest game ever made, with their “reforged” bullshit and I can never forgive them for that. I swore them off afterward. I am ashamed to say that I caved and bought Diablo 4 and was reminded what a shit company they are because they somehow managed to suck all the fun out of that too.

PraiseTheSoup,

I was willing to accept your judgement of “this was never funny” until I got to the rick and morty panel and realized you don’t have a clue what funny actually is.

Cyberpunk runs 30% faster on linux than on windows 11 (m.youtube.com)

The YouTube channel “Maximum Fury” conducted a technical test of the new Cyberpunk add-on called “Phantom Liberty” on an older AMD hardware system, testing it separately on Linux and Windows 11. The Linux system, specifically the Fedora distribution called Nobara, performed significantly better, delivering 31% more...

PraiseTheSoup,

I already got the full cyberpunk experience 3 years ago, and it was terrible. Making the game prettier doesn’t make it any less of a joke.

PraiseTheSoup,

I’ve tried it. It absolutely is not “GTA in the future”. It’s just as shallow as it was at launch.

PraiseTheSoup,

More of a Crash Bash fan myself but to each their own

PraiseTheSoup,

Not when bank tellers are 18 year old kids

PraiseTheSoup,

While I agree with nearly all of this, have you ever used any proprietary government software? It’s the fucking worst.

PraiseTheSoup,

If that were to change, then I’ll be subscription-free.

At this point you will also be music-free since you do not own any of it, and that is what keeps people locked into these services even as the companies jerk them around.

PraiseTheSoup,

Pretty sure fextra just rips all their content from other wikis anyway, at least this was definitely my experience in the past. Just try scrolling past the first link in your search engine.

PraiseTheSoup,

I take it you didn’t play the recent GoldenEye rerelease with modern gamepad controls?

PraiseTheSoup,

Nah that’s the one. January 2023. On Xbox it has options for modern controls. I didn’t play it on the switch.

PraiseTheSoup,

I don’t know anything about the 2010 bond game. Blood stone? I had to go look it up, never even heard of it.

What I’m talking about is just a rerelease of the OG N64 Goldeneye. It came out on switch and Xbox earlier this year.

PraiseTheSoup,

Did Nvidia do something exciting this past year? What did I miss?

PraiseTheSoup,

Unreal Tournament 2004 was 7 CDs if I remember correctly. That’s the most I ever dealt with, and I would gladly insert 100 CDs if it meant we got games of that quality again.

PraiseTheSoup,

I just recently locked in 3 more years of game pass ultimate for $180. That’s $5 a month to play 100+ games on console or PC. Granted, much of the catalog is games I already own or games I’m not interested in, but if I play just one full priced game a year from game pass it is paying for itself. Most recently that would be Starfield, and when I got bored after a couple hours there was no pressure to “get my money’s worth”. I simply uninstalled and moved on.

I realize game pass prices are going up and this deal won’t be available forever, but this is my 2nd time around already so the last several years of console gaming have been cheap as shit.

What is your comfort activity (like comfort food)?

Mine is playing AOE2 in easiest (or standard if I want a bit of challenge) mode against 3 bots. I just build my economy, wall up (and laugh at the enemy soldiers attacking my walls in vain), reach imperial age and attack once my army reaches the population limit. I also send 104 in the chat so they don’t surrender and I can...

PraiseTheSoup,

The Daggerfall Unity re-release was free some time ago on Bethesda’s official website. I’d check there.

PraiseTheSoup,

I’m here for all these but my personal zen is Lucasarts’ Gladius. I have kept my original Xbox all these years just to play it but it was finally recently made backwards compatible for my series x.

PraiseTheSoup,

I canceled my dermatologist appointment last winter because it was a 30 mile drive to the clinic and it was the worst blizzard we’d had all year. The soonest I could reschedule was 7 fucking months out. In truth all I needed from that visit was for him to renew my prescriptions, but I’m forced to go in and pay $300 for an office visit to do it.

PraiseTheSoup,

I’ve had a Vizio “smart” TV for about 3 years. It is my first experience with a smart TV and it has been a massive pile of shit since day one. Most recently it has decided to show a black screen every time I turn on the Nintendo Switch. In this state it does not allow me to do anything but turn it off. So I have to turn it off, turn it back on, go into settings and restart the TV. It will then work for a single play session, but as soon as I shut the Switch off I will undoubtedly have to go through this same process the next time I want to play.

This is only the most recent issue I’ve had with Vizio’s garbage ass software. To those saying to just unplug it from the internet, trust me when I say the solution is not that simple. It was even worse before any updates, but with each update they break something else. There is no “good” software version to leave it at.

PraiseTheSoup,

Yeah it’s the CEC, though I think the Switch calls it something else. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the issue as I have tried it on and off. Thing is it has worked flawlessly until just recently, so clearly Vizio broke something with an update.

I have a Series X plugged into a different HDMI port with CEC on and it works just fine.

PraiseTheSoup,

This is indistinguishable from wizardry to me.
