Done!

I respect your policy above but you may run into declining response rate in the long term without some kind of feedback, as there will be a ‘what is the point’ feeling. I may be wrong of course (and hope I am!), just something I’ve seen at work. I completely get your reasoning though.

I wasn’t expecting to leave the article having gained so much knowledge about canning

wildeaboutoskar,

In all honesty nothing in particular, moreso that I want to explore what’s possible. I used IFTTT for things like switching WiFi on when my phone was in a specific location, saving emails with receipts/order confirmations to somewhere central like Google Drive (though trying to find a non-google alternative). I also liked the Pocket integration.

Favorite uses for cucumbers (beehaw.org)

Just inherited a bunch of cucumbers from a friend’s garden. I love them just on their own with some salt, and have made many a salad using them. I’m curious what kinds of fun things you all may use them for. Even if you feel like it’s basic please share as I will be eating cucumbers for the next several days straight lol....

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

So it’s not exactly sophisticated but cucumber water. I love it, every time I go somewhere that has cucumber water I always think I’m somewhere posh (even though it costs pennies).

Why are you assuming they’re arguing in bad faith?

The age of the book is irrelevant, the philosophical ideas are still worth engaging with, even if you don’t agree with them

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

Not just America unfortunately. The UK government did this too, their part should not be forgotten.

Since giving waterboarding a go

…I feel like there’s some missing context here but I’m not sure I want to ask

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

I can’t say I got that impression from them to be honest. Feels like you have assumed a lot from a couple of comments (though I totally get being jaded after a while of seeing the same kind of thing).

I think this could be a really interesting thing to explore both sides of the argument as I do think you have a point. Just seems like you’re both interpreting it differently in terms of tone (which I guess fits in a way, given your stances)

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

Can’t say I’ve noticed it on Beehaw but I have on some other instances. Just posted in one actually - was an interesting discussion on the nature of violence in media. One person immediately lashed out at the person and I’m struggling to see why as they were being civil and were just exploring ideas.

I think it’s a wider thing than Lemmy or even the internet. It feels like some kind of way of getting control over something for people who lack any control in other aspects of their lives. They can have it if they’re ‘right’ even if they have to attack people for it.

@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

That must be incredibly frustrating, but it’s also good to see the anaesthetists take their job so seriously. Hope you don’t have to wait too long

It’s been a good but intense week so far. Back to work with a 3 day intensive python course, which was interesting (and a long time coming, I have asked for training for 3 years now). Looking forward to putting it into use now I understand the basics.

Otherwise not a lot to write home about. Looking into new choirs prior to the new term starting, in one already but quit the second one I was in as the music wasn’t to my taste.

Welcome back!

I’m on holiday at the Edinburgh fringe festival. Had like an hour’s sleep but seen some great comedy already today. Treated myself to mussels and ice cream (not together) for dinner, looking forward to passing out at my hotel. Walked miles today which was much needed exercise even if my feet hurt!

Long day full of shows tomorrow, can’t wait. Hardest thing will be pacing myself caffeine and alcohol wise. I’m not good at staying out all day

I can if anyone would find it remotely interesting! I am posting on Mastodon. Honestly it’s been brilliant so far

One of those foods I only really have when on holiday, can’t deal with the smell when I cook at home

Oh cool what kind of jacket are you making? Hope the weather is kind to you this weekend!

wildeaboutoskar,

That sucks. Is it something you can get used to do you think? Can imagine it’s a bit of a change

wildeaboutoskar,

Hope you have a great time!

I’m from the UK so forgive the ignorance, but I thought Malibu was mostly beach?

Not a huge fan of camping personally but I LOVE a campfire and looking up at the stars. So peaceful

wildeaboutoskar,

Hope you get a chance to recharge

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

Ouch hope you’re not too burnt! I burn so easily, I wear factor 50 SPF and still end up red. Not a fan of summer weather, though here it’s mostly rained for the last week so I’m grateful for that

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

Good luck with the climb, hope you manage ok

Sounds intense, hope you get some time to unwind afterwards

Is it weird to reply to my own thread? Ah well.

This week has been suspiciously good so far. Getting things done, people have largely been nice, spent the weekend with my sister’s cat which was lovely. I’m just waiting for something bad to happen (super healthy I know).

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

Not a mod so can’t from my end unfortunately

Glad you’re having a good break! Hoping to do the same next week (minus the smoking).

Is it normal to go back to uni that early where you are? In the UK students don’t go back until October time. I find the differences so interesting.

wildeaboutoskar,

That looks great! Very punk

Questions that invite introspection often end up that way I think. I don’t mind, sometimes you just need to shout into the void.

Sounds exciting, good luck with the job hunt!

Also cat tax please 🙂

We use Google Meet at work. It’s basic but does the job

I mostly use it to buy ebooks, handy for when there’s a sale on

Personally I haven’t seen any bots on here yet. If they become problematic or if there are too many then I would be pro-restricting them.

I do like the novelty bots you can get though, they can be fun

I love black cats and tortoiseshells. Had a lovely tortie on my street growing up who would talk to you and follow you up the street every day 💙 (let’s not have the outdoor cat argument please, not my cat, this is the UK, etc).

I adore Ragdolls aesthetically but never interacted with one so not sure I would get one as a pet until I had.

I am slightly biased against ginger cats as there was another cat on my street growing up who would scratch us after seeking us out for pets. I don’t dislike them but I probably wouldn’t get one

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

I really hope the stigma is fading. Looking at this thread black cats seem popular which is great to see (obviously not representative of everyone)

Thanks for posting, it’s really interesting to see what goes into running something like this.

Chucked a bit into the pot. It’s not a lot but I want to contribute where I can.

Be wary of spiteful Reddit users (kbin.social)

In the past week and a half, I've noticed Reddit behaviors starting to try and poison all of the places that people are taking refuge in to get away from the toxicity, myself included. They've started to DDoS Lemmy for a while, which is a Reddit thing to do and what they're notorious of doing whenever they feel they don't like...

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

Have you thought about joining Beehaw? They’re slightly stricter on rules but have fostered a friendly and welcoming space imo.

So um... I kinda forgot my Bitwarden Password... 😬 Also can we talk about like stress memory problems and stuff? Recently, I'm having trouble remembering stuff.

Since my main lemmy’s password is locked behind Bitwarden, I had to make a new account to post. Originally I started using passwords manager because I keep forgetting passwords. But my paranoid ass is so worried that someone saw me typing my Bitwarden master password so I feel the urge to change it. So now I forgot the new...

Yeah when my depression flares up my memory is awful. I have a reasonable adjustment at work for instructions to be given in writing when I’m feeling low because it will literally be like talking to a goldfish.

Embarrassing when I have a great long term memory

I took over a colleague’s reporting as they’re leaving and with the press of a button all 4 reports broke for the whole business. During peak monthly reporting time. Whoopsie. Now waiting for IT to fix everything, which might take a while.

Also I walk into things quite a lot.

What are some game genres / styles you like that aren't being made anymore, or are being mde but not very often?

For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

I love this thread, so many people are recommending games to each other. Nice to see.

My answer is games like Skyrim where it’s a sandbox but you can pick up different quests. I know there’s a proper name for them but it escapes me.

I know there’s GTA which is a similar type but I want a more twee fantasy vibe

wildeaboutoskar,
@wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org avatar

That sounds like a nightmare to be honest. Not something I would dream of using.
