Xinyu Wen traveled to Thailand in June, planning a two-week vacation around Bangkok’s Pride parade. But the 28-year-old ended up staying a month and a half, soaking up the Thai capital’s thriving LBGTQ+ community.
They aren’t LGBT friendly, but I don’t think they are as bad as US conservatives. Most conservative Chinese people would talk behind your back like “look at that gay couple, so weird”, but most people aren’t gonna be shouting at your face or attacking you, at worst, you get get labeled the “weirdo” of the village. If you’re in the city, that doesn’t even matter much.
The CCP doesn’t actively hunt down people unless they protest about it. It’s sorta a “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” situation. You won’t get protection from discrimination, you wont get LGBT media on tv, you can’t have LGBT events in public, but at least you can quietly live your life.
Ahh yes, I used love watching Among Us. It’s a very boring game to play, since public lobbies are dumb as hell, but no friends to play with either. But it’s great to watch people play it.
An American caver has been rescued by emergency workers near Anamur, in southern Turkey, after he became stranded hundreds of meters underground earlier this month....
China has private bussinesses, rich billionaire CEOs (billionaire as in measured in USD currency, not Renminbi), hospitals deny emergency care if you don’t pay upfront (this is actually very common that it’s a common plot point in Chinese TV shows), there are still lanlords despite what westerners think Mao did, I have relatives in China that owns a few apartments in the city, although, they aren’t “real” landlords since they technically only have a 70-year lease from the government, but for all intents and purposes, they are landlords, there is no courts to hear an eviction case, they just present the lease to police and if they side with the landlord, they’ll show up to evict. But most of the time, the landlord doesn’t even involve police and just change the locks when the tenant is away.
Not Socialist at all. A “liberal” state in the US is far more Socialist than an average Chinese city.
I “convince” world leaders to cede their sovereignty to the UN to unify and defeat the aliens
I “convince” the UN General Assembly to elect me as Secretary-General, since I have the most information on the alien attack and would be a great leader
I become Secretary-General in a totally legit election, totally no bribery or anything.
There’s no time for democracy when we need unity. Elections are postponed until further notice. I’ll be the Secretary-General until we can safely hold new elections.
Well, at least on facebook, you can have various ideologies (at least until Suckerberg decide to ban you). On Wechat, it’s only whatever the govermment allows.
I don’t like public transport at all. I often just see arguments and fighting in subways. Causes me a lot of anxiety. Also, US subways don’t have platform safety doors. The NYC stories about people pushing people on the tracks… 😬 terrifying
Those platform safety doors will take ten years to be built, if they’ll even be built at all. 😔
Camus is a corporate shill. Sisyphus is the average worker and the boulder is the meaningless shit everyone has to do. The mountain is your life. The gods who punished him is society.
Yea I’m fine, just read some bad news articles and stories from various online forums about terrible parents and noticed my parents are awfully similar. 😬
No country opposed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Every country that was a UN member at the time either voted in favor of it, or abstained because they believed it didn’t go far enough to include denying human rights to nazis and fascists.
Although, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights itself isn’t legally binding. It’s just a joint statement by UN members declaring what is considered human rights. It’s not like a violation of International Laws if they just ignore what they said. (Even if it were an international law, who’s gonna enforce it?)
The Third General Assembly adopted the Declaration just before midnight on December 10, 1948 with a vote of 48 to zero and eight abstentions. The abstentions came from the USSR, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (UKSSR), the BSSR, Yugoslavia, Poland, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
The Six Communist Abstentions
The Communist abstentions coalesced around the view that the Declaration did not go far enough. They had repeatedly made the point that to protect human rights adequately, the Declaration needed explicitly to condemn fascism and Nazism. Since it did not do that, they would abstain from the vote. The deep animosity that exists between Marxist egalitarianism and Nazi racism led the USSR delegation to propose amendments to what became Articles 19 and 20 stating that fascists and Nazis did not have human rights to freedom of expression and association. When those amendments were rejected, the Communists, rather than abstaining, which was their custom, voted against these articles.
