Meta’s new text-based social app Threads has quickly gained 100 million users since launching last week, which appears to be negatively impacting traffic on Twitter. According to web analytics, Twitter traffic declined 5-11% over the first two days Threads was available compared to the previous week. Threads was able to grow...
we’re back after an absence. unfortunately my week has kicked off with a full day of completely dying from eating too much food, then my body rejecting food–this is not ideal, obviously. also my internal clock is messed up and i’m way behind on some stuff
So far it’s been stressful. I have stupid deadlines this week and the person who would usually help left last week. Worked over the weekend and already know I’m having to work over my hours for the rest of the week to make sure I get everything done in time.
The worst part is that the main paper I’m killing myself writing is something that I know people won’t read all of, but if I don’t write it then the exec will be pissed off. Wish they realised just how much work goes into these things.
Definitely with you there on Jane Austen. I like that ultimately everyone gets married and is happy (even if that’s not my idea of a happy ending necessarily)
the details aren’t super important and i’m not going to go into particular depth here but, in summary: i am on break. the burnout is quite bad. the “avalanche analogy” is pretty apt for what i’m dealing with here....
It’s great that you’ve recognised the burnout and are taking steps to look after yourself. You’ve done a great job on here, as can be seen by the community that’s sprung up here.
I like the name as it conjures up a cute image of a bee in a little cowboy hat. The icons are nice too, I like the consistency. More generally, I like that there’s no tolerance for trolls here, people are generally friendly and it feels like it’s easy to comment without worrying about the replies you might get. Plus it’s transparent - I like the fact the admins post updates on bugs, finances, etc.
I’m on Lemmy.world as well and it feels slightly more like the old place in comparison.
As I get older into adulthood I feel like more and more things require my attention. Trying to juggle work, family, home maintenance etc I’m constantly busy. I can almost never find time to rest because there is always something that has to be done. How do you find time to rest and cope with the stress but also get the things...
For me, it’s sticking my hand out of the window of a moving car. Whether I’m driving or not, I love having the windows down and waving my hand in the wind. I’ve loved it since I was a child and I’ll never stop doing it!
we already collectively dislike a substantial number of 0.18+'s UI decisions, most of which are minor but are already adding up to be that much more annoying collectively. maybe we can sand some of these off with theming in the future. for now though please hang with this and petition them to merge better decisions in the...
If you're not familiar with Stray, it's a PS4/PS5 game where you play as a cat. It's a very short game; the main story can be beaten in an afternoon. However, it's available on PS+ (although going away soon), and can be purchased outright for
I picked up some extra work so my weekend will be pretty much nonexistent. Let me live vicariously through you. Anything fun or exciting? Anything shitty you want to vent about? Boring normal stuff that needs done? Lay it on me!
Going to my parents’ to dogsit while they’re on holiday. Will be nice to chill with the dog, but I was hoping to get some time on my PC before that. Just got The Tenants from the Steam summer sale and enjoying it so far

I'd be surprised if they did it. Where I work we get a lot of subject access requests and we will generally try and get out of it if we can as it's an annoying thing to have to do. Lots of people know this and put in requests just to piss us off (which I find amusing).
I have submitted a gdpr request myself (UK based so it applies) but not heard back yet. Think they have 28 days though so should get it soon.
So Elon gutted Twitter, and people jumped ship to Mastodon. Now spez did... you know... and we're on Lemmy and Kbin. Can we have a YouTube to PeerTube exodus next? With the whole ad-pocalypse over there, seems like Google is itching for it.
