What is a term to describe expressing one's opinions with links and memes instead of words?

My views on things often differ from those in my social circle. I am often bombarded with article links and videos from people with no words of their own attached. It is very easy to send a link. It takes a bit of effort to form a coherent paragraph expressing a single thought....

In an idealized scenario where everyone is arguing in an attempt to seek the truth rather than to win an argument, I would agree with you. But so often, you have people linking you to whole novels that they themselves haven’t even read. Does it actually contain the information they’re trying to convey? They may tell you that it does, but I’m not convinced that they know it does, and all it’ll do is exhaust you before you get the chance to actually address their point. The few times I’ve tried following through and reading these linked texts, my responses just get met with silence. The rare response you do get is not worth the extra effort required to engage with this kind of comment. At the very least, if you have someone who writes out a response in their own words, you know they’re willing to take the time to actually discuss, and so you return the courtesy.

I don’t understand what you mean by “The Chinese Room has already been surpassed by LLMs”. It’s not a test that can be surpassed. It’s just a thought experiment.

In any case, you do bring up a good point. Perhaps this understanding is in the organization of the information. So if you have a Chinese room where all the query-response pairs are in arbitrary orders, then maybe you wouldn’t consider that to be understanding. But if you have the data organized such that similar queries/responses are close to each other and this person in the room doing the answering can make mistakes such as accidentally copying out the response next to the correct response and still make sense, then maybe we can consider this system to have better understanding.

Disagreeing with the established definition of a term is certainly an opinion.

It’s a product of the environment, which the parents set. So children of people who care about the environment is probably going to also care because that’s what their parents teach them.

It’s similar to the concept of being an outlaw. If you decide to break the laws, then laws no longer apply to you, including those that serve to protect you. If you do not tolerate, then you do not get the protections of tolerance.

Same here. The game needs such a big time investment and there just isn’t time for that anymore these days. They did do a pretty good job with the item and skill order recommendations, so at least ARAM is still kind of accessible.

Retrieving from S3 glacier is approximately 10 times the monthly cost of storing the data 100 times actually. Didn’t realize retrieval from Glacier isn’t actually downloading it onto your local, but rather just moving it into a frequent access tier S3 bucket from which you can then download, and this download is the expensive part.

Is it Glacier Deep Archive? I just realized I was looking at the Glacier flexible retrieval prices earlier. US-East lists it as $0.00099/GB (about $1/TB), which is still higher than what you’re getting.

Question to those not in the USA, and who have lived outside the USA.

I currently have Holfood chocolate flavor. Tastes pretty good, high in protein, not too filling. Sometimes, I’ll add in a scoop of unflavored whey to up the protein and calorie content.

I’ve had Soylent in the past, but I’ve never liked the flavour. Then at some point, they changed the formulation and it made me puke when I had it. Holfood vanilla is like a slightly more palatable version of Soylent if you like that neutral flavour.

If it generates “I ate” and the next word can be “a” or “an”, then it will just generate one or the other based on how often they appear after “I ate”. It hasn’t decided by this point what it has eaten. After it has generated the next token, for example “I ate an”, then its next token is now limited to food items that fit the grammatical structure of this sentence so far. Now it can decide: did I eat an apple? An orange? An awesome steak? etc

You can calculate this yourself. For example, if you’re working on an object that’s 1m in diameter and you use 3.14 to compute the circumference, then you can expect errors of up to 1m * (3.142 - 3.14) = 0.002m = 2mm.

That’s assuming there’s a hard-coded limit. There very likely isn’t, but things can break when you push the limits of software like this. You won’t be able to easily see what those are by looking at the code.

I have torrents that have never completed due to lack of seeds and peers.

That’s what failing means here. You know how you sometimes see a torrent site list a non-zero number of seeders but when you try to download it, you don’t connect to any of them and it shows 0 seeders in your client? That’s what happens when neither you nor the seeders have port forwarding set up.

Depends on how you do the capture. If you need to engineer the system and feed it energy in a form that we can instead use to power other stuff, then yeah, it doesn’t make sense. But if you for example, plant a tree, then that tree would use energy from the sun that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to use as easily.
