I’d like to also add some context as a Zigbee user who has read the entire spec and started a NWK and APS implementation a while back (no I did not read the entire ZCL specs because that would be pointless, this one is for the pedants out there).
Zigbee as a protocol is not really worthy of replacement either. So on technical merits it’s frustrating to see the alternatives be made when Zigbee is just fine. I have a great experience using my Zigbee devices, and I feel like the spec behind it is pretty strong. Like most things its a bit too well-defined in some aspects, but that tends to happen.
A 33-year-old Dutch woman has been killed in an explosion in Gaza. Islam al-Ashqar was visiting relatives at the Nusairat refugee camp in central Gaza and was one of 22 Dutch nationals the ministry was trying to help leave. Israel bombed the local evening market in the camp on Saturday night.
How is this newsworthy? One death of a Dutch person is grounds for an entire news article? When are the articles for everyone else killed in the crossfire / while engaged in conflict going to come.
It sounds like a fallacy but where and why are we drawing this line?
Edit: the original NOS article is not out of place, I just read it and its pretty typical. Why the secondary reporting? My issue is with “dutchnews.nl”
Holy hell they sure do. A lot of Americans don’t even understand you don’t immediately start accruing interest. You clearly have not witnessed the absolute insanity of Americans saying that they use a debit card because they “don’t want to pay interest” or they “only spend money they have”.
Also the comment you’re replying to was likely in agreement with the premise established by the person they were replying to.
Mine is people who separate words when they write. I’m Norwegian, and we can string together words indefinetly to make a new word. The never ending word may not make any sense, but it is gramatically correct...
What irritates me most is the whole thing. The language is so incredibly contextual that it is a pain in the ass once you learn something less contextual. It seems deeply infected with all the parts of English/American culture that I hate. It feels like you cannot just say what you mean, you have to dance in circles and obscure the point. Theres no need for it to be so complicated.
Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....
ITT: Entitled users think they deserve YouTube without paying for it.
Be honest with yourself, you are entitled. Stop acting like youtube is fucking you over by enforcing what is a reasonable policy for those who refuse to pay with their money.
Piracy is also entitlement. I am honest with myself when I pirate and use ad blockers on the internet. Why can’t you be?
You can downvote me all you want but at the end of the day I am right and you are immature for not being able to handle admitting you’re doing things off the moral high road you want to believe you’re on.
Stop using YouTube if you can’t get what you want out of the service. A lot of lemmy users did the same with Reddit, it’s within your reach. If you don’t like how YouTube is (and it does suck if you arent a yt premium user) and your ad blocker no longer works, it’s time to find a new platform that preserves your privacy and respects your rights as a user. Just don’t act so goddamn entitled.

What kind of arrogant asshole diagnoses people with ADHD with absolutely zero context? You, I guess. What’s the point, their lives are fucked up by their own hand whether they have ADHD or not. ADHD doesn’t make someone have a bunch of kids (despite your claim, that’s not how it works). ADHD doesn’t make people have miserable “white trash” (per the commenter) lives. It only makes it harder to thrive.

I’m trying to better understand hosting a Lemmy Instance. Lurking discussions it seems like some people are hosting from the Cloud or VPS. I’d like to pose the fact that VPSes and Hosted solutions are different as a rebuttle to what you’re saying. It’s pretty unreasonable to gate keep self hosting behind having the hardware running on a device you control.

Damn. That was my last hope for a company putting efficiency as a priority.
(OP Asked) I care about efficiency because I hate having to deal with the waste heat from my computer. It makes it more challenging to regulate indoor temp in summer where I live. Humidity is always high so keeping the house cool and dry for as cheap as possible is my highest priority.
EDIT: The only reason why I still had it at this point was because I could use it with other apps. However, now that my Spotify Subscription is cancelled, it doesn’t work with anything. It’s mildly infuriating because today, I can’t still use it with other apps like I was able to yesterday....
Its crazy seeing people go apeshit just because spotify costs money. One of the least fucked up subscription services and yet they are mad because it isnt free. Come on guys :(
cmon, pretty sure Linus says that it is basically equivelent to piracy (and hes right) while also freely admitting his use of ublock and saying youre free to use it. Let’s not defame others by quoting them out of context.

x86 and x86_64 still have segment registers so it’s not exactly entirely archaic, but they’re not really relevant so that doesnt change what you said. I dont have the exact details on who implemented segmentation first, so I cant elaborate on that.

Its horrifically funny that youve just insinuated that the commentor lacks context on app development while their account is on a clearly dev oriented instance. Also tf is your problem with the self righteous comment, OP can likely speak for themselves.
