apotheotic,

Final Space is amazing, but unfortunately will never be finished :(

“Soooooo leeeets MUG 'EM!”

I use linux for the same reason I wear fuzzy socks and sweaters

My understanding of the history of fashion is that back in the 1950s America it was expected that you wore a suit/dress at work unless you had a different uniform. There were a bunch of very boring people who thought that we should be wearing office job garb all the time, because they wore suits so much it was their default...

apotheotic,

Oh, I thought this was going to be a post about you being trans. Threw me with the title /j

apotheotic,

Some wonderful “rhetoric” filled examples, as well as an unrelated all time clasic

  • "Your generation is so entitled-"
  • (in reference to progressive language) "It’s so hard to keep up-"
  • Any mention of Jrdan Pterson in a positive light
  • "So, we noticed you across the bar and love your style-

“run over and bull the lmao 65lbs” What the fuck does this mean

I imagine they mean “pull”? Are they laughing at the weight being low?

The fediverse is the network of federated instances

Federation is the process by which content and interactions are aggregated and shared between all instances

They’re definitely not interchangeable words.

Incidentally I can’t load the link you shared, it takes me to a blank homepage for some instance

Hello Celeste from hit indie video game Celeste

when will be your last time to vote for the "lesser of two evils"?

When will be your “this is the last fucking time I’m voting for the ‘lesser of two evils’, then I don’t care after that, let this country burn to the ground”? For me, this is basically it. This is last election I’m going for that " lesser of two evils" bullshit. After that I’m done. It’s just pointless. Let’s...

apotheotic,

Never. Just vote. Be a grain of sand on the scales that keeps things from going to absolute shit. It costs you almost nothing, just a tiny amount of time.

apotheotic,

That emoji leaves too mushroom for interpretation

apotheotic,

They, indeed, did forget the ravioli.

The creators of the show did, I mean.

apotheotic,

This part of the graph (2009-2019) would be less steep, because this sharp drop would have happened earlier - we’d be further along the curve

apotheotic,

That seems quite common, to be frank

Messed up things a doctor did to you or someone you know? / Bad experiences with doctors

Today I spoke to a coworker who had bad experiences with doctors and was seeking recommendations for a new one, then other coworkers chimed in, and so I decided to ask you guys as well. Well, not for a doctor recommendation, but about your bad experienced with doctors?...

apotheotic,

This depends entirely on what boundaries you have set in your relationship(s), and whether the person who is doing the sex work is open about it with the other partner(s)

Example 1: Relationship is established as monogamous, person is open about performing sex work and is not doing things behind their partner’s back/trying to hide it, and both parties are satisfied that it falls within the boundaries they’ve set in their relationship - not cheating!

Example 2: Relationship is established as polyamorous, people involved have several partners and metamours. Person doing the sex work is not open with one or more of their partners about it, tries to hide it or do it behind people’s backs, or does so despite it being outside of the boundaries set with one or more of their partners - cheating!

As with the vast majority of things in this vein, it’s all about the individuals involved.

apotheotic,

So, yeah. The article accurately represents the source, based on the quotes you shared. There’s a lot more appealing to people’s emotions in the source, but he’s still saying the same thing.

apotheotic,

This is such a weird exchange, ignoring that it absolutely didn’t happen

As a DM, you’re playing with your players. You and them are creating a shared story, a shared experience, together. If a player is playing in a way that hurts the shared experience, you should talk to them. Perhaps about how they can fulfil their power fantasy without removing tension from combat.

You can consider one player souring the experience for everyone else as “breaking the rules”. You don’t address this by “breaking the rules” yourself.

As a good DM, you absolutely can and should be tweaking your encounters so that they’re a good fit, but this ain’t it. This devolves into you vs power gamer and the rest of the group will be alienated or bored as a result.

Set expectations! Make sure you’re all playing the same kind of game.

apotheotic,

Northernlion has the perfect balance of “talking about the game” and “grocery store anecdotes” for my brain to just drift to sleep. Paired with his knack for obscure pop culture references and his delightful speaking tone, and you’ve got instant knockout drops.

The man has an astonishing backlog of Binding of Isaac videos that are just chefs kiss for falling asleep to. To such a degree that he actually talks about how part of his audience are listening to him to fall asleep, lol.

apotheotic,

I keep mine in the same container with all my electronics screwdriver bits, seems like the sensible place for it to be

apotheotic,

Is it a bit redundant, or is it a redundant bit?

apotheotic,

Signal and grapheneos are the projects I make regular contributions to in the privacy sphere - £5/mo each

It ain’t privacy related but make sure u donate to trans charities xoxoxo

apotheotic,

This article isn’t about that bundle, but also the bundle you’re talking about has Spiritfarer which is absolutely excellent, as well as Wildermyth which isn’t my taste but it doesn’t take much to see how much love and care went into it, and how that reflects in the quality

apotheotic,

In fairness, I would be distraught if I ever misplaced my gay card. What would the others think of me at the bi-weekly brunch?

apotheotic,

I wanna say, I agree with you, but that’s not at all the definition of median. A median is the middle most data point assuming you sort the data points in order. It might be that for this analysis they’ve chosen to omit the top and bottom 1% and then take the median of the remaining data, but that’s certainly not the definition of a median.

apotheotic,

The mean would also not correspond to that definition, as the mean is just the way we would usually think of an average (add the data points together and divide by the number of data points).

The removal of the top and bottom 1% of the data isn’t relevant to whether its a mean, median, or mode - its just a good way of getting a more representative measure of the population by excluding outliers. Often one might take what’s called an “inter-quartile mean”, the average excluding the top and bottom 25% of the data. In significantly large datasets (ie, the size of whole populations), it may be enough to simply exclude the top and bottom 1%!

Either way, your sentiment is in the right place, I just like maths and it’s worthwhile making sure everyone is using the same words for the same things 😄

apotheotic,

I don’t re-read books but I absolutely buy physical copies of books I’ve bought digitally or borrowed from the library/a friend.

A book that really touches you is a special thing, and it’s nice to have a physical object on your bookshelf which you can see and be reminded of. It’s also nice to go “YOU HAVEN’T READ X? HERE PLEASE READ IT”

apotheotic,

Honestly? Do whatever you want as long as you’re not hurting anyone or being a dick. Wanna put on a spooky costume and go ask the neighbours for candy? Please be my guest and I hope you have such a fun time. I guess you might get some funny looks but like, that’s on them, not you. This doesn’t even just apply to trick or treating.

You’re never too old to enjoy something. The world is miserable enough, have ice cream for dinner once, go trick or treating, learn to ride a bike, have a sleepover with your friends, or do none of those things if you wouldn’t derive joy from them.

apotheotic,

Initial thought:

Everyone is nudged slightly closer to what they need to live comfortable lives

For people with very low quality of life, their life gets slightly better For people with very high quality of life, their life gets imperceptibly worse (but then also slightly better as the world around them has improved, since they make up such a tiny fraction of people)

“more realistic” thought: The human brain is slightly less prone to addiction - however slight this adjustment needs to be to be considered a small thing.

Less social media addiction, less harmful substance addiction, less sugar addiction, less gambling addiction.

apotheotic,

I don’t know if any positive effects of how addiction-prone our brains are remains - I can imagine it being good for survival when resources are scarce but we don’t live in a world where that’s really the case anymore

apotheotic, (edited )

Outside of Arkham and Shadow of War, this bundle is hot garbage lmao. 100 years of WB legends and this is what they settle on

Edit:

I should have been clearer in my initial phrasing. The value for money of the bundle is awesome - even if all you care about is arkham and mordor. If you’re a fighting game enjoyer then you’re eating well.

It’s just a bit of a shocker that this bundle is the bundle that represents “100 years of WB heroes and legends”

It’s a bit more like “which WB games have been released somewhat recently that were somewhat well recieved” (which is totally fair for a bundle of this price, its the title I take issue with)

I can’t read “what a time to be alive” without hearing Two Minute Papers in my head

apotheotic,

Delicious. Finally, some good fucking food.

apotheotic,

I genuinely don’t know if my younger self would have the presence of mind to take me seriously, but I would try to reach them and encourage them to be more empathetic toward things/people that they didn’t understand. I was a bit of an asshole as a teenager, heck maybe even in my early 20s, and I wish I could go back with the care I have now.

PSA - I Created a New Community for Sobriety. If You Have Any Addiction You Want to Quit, Join Us, All Are Welcome! (lemmy.ml)

I have struggled with my alcoholism for some time and finally was able to get sober. I’d like to pay it forward and decided to start /c/sobriety for ANY drug/alcohol addiction for those currently or afflicted in the past and ready to nurture and guide newcomers to sober living....

apotheotic,

Ngl the wink emotes are giving this post a very strange vibe

apotheotic,

Oh it gave a friendly vibe, alright ;)

apotheotic,

I’ve had nothing but praise in the past, but I don’t really know you that way and I don’t go around advertising it

apotheotic,

That’s entirely reasonable

apotheotic,

I don’t consider my gaming in terms of price/time because that just encourages buying games that suck away my time.

My value for gaming is less of a simple equation, but my examples of games that are “undoubtedly worth the price” are going to consist a lot more of shorter games that are absolutely spectacular for their shorter playtime with a £30ish price tag.

Think:

  • Outer Wilds
  • Tunic
  • Hollow Knight
  • Journey
  • The Witness
  • Portal (1&2)
  • Celeste
  • Undertale
  • To The Moon
  • Ori and the Blind Forest/Will o the Wisps
  • The Witcher 3

I have no strict criteria for this, but I can say I’ve had far, far more than my money’s worth from those games in terms of the value they brought to my life.

If you do want to look purely at the number of hours you’ll get out of a game vs its price, look no further than Guild Wars 2. You can get all the content for under £100 I beoieve, and I’ve spent 6000+ wonderful hours playing it. It’s not the same kind of enjoyment though.

apotheotic,

Yo that’s fucking awesome. I like my “package” but also wish I had the other “kit”. That sounds ideal.

apotheotic,

Journey by thatgamecompany - it is difficult to put into words what it is exactly that I experienced, and I think every person’s take away will be a bit different, but there is a profound and overwhelming experience to be had with that short but wonderful game.

Firewatch has a turning point in its story which hits like a truck, and is very grounding. It takes a story which has felt almost whimsically frightening, and brings it much closer to home emotionally.

apotheotic,

The benefits it offers me in society

apotheotic,

This is always a valid reason. Annoying jk rowling is always morally correct

apotheotic,

Eepy konsi. I appreciate that Razzira is big strong woman but also soft and friend shaped. Much better than the stereotype of strong/muscular people being aggressive or unintelligent by default
