penquin,

I already fucking struggle with understanding English since it’s my second language, and with this new shit sound, it’s now fucking worse. I used to be able to do without subtitles most of the time, but now I can’t watch shit without it.

penquin,

Just like that? No catch?

Marketing Company Claims That It Actually Is Listening to Your Phone and Smart Speakers to Target Ads (www.404media.co)

A marketing team within media giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims it has the capability to listen to ambient conversations of consumers through embedded microphones in smartphones, smart TVs, and other devices to gather data and use it to target ads, according to a review of CMG marketing materials by 404 Media and details from a...

penquin,

I’ve never met a person in my life that was convinced by an ad to buy something. I know I never have and never will, I actually stay away from things that are advertised to me. So these fucking brainless fucks are literally wasting their money and energy on ads. Every human being I know loaths ads and would love to erase them from existence. When will they ever get this?

penquin,

lol. Was that a real thing? Never heard of it. I wasn’t born in the US, so I might have not seen it

penquin,

I know for a fact that you’re wrong. You just are. I have never bought a single thing based on an ad, period.

penquin,

I said “I’ve never met a person”… then “every human being I know”. Does that count as generalizing? This is basically my circle of the people I know.

penquin,

Thank you!!! I’ve always said that. If you need to advertise it so hard then it’ll probably suck.

penquin,

If you say generalize within my circle of people that I know then yes I agree with you, but generalizing in general means everyone, even those I don’t know and have never met, and I didn’t say that. So, literally not yes. lol

penquin,

Oh boy, all those toys ads on TV where the make the toy look so awesome with all those animations then you get it, and it’s a piece of plastic that does absolute none of they advertised.

penquin,

This makes a lot of sense. Thank you

penquin,

Those are very reasonable salaries to me. What’s insane and should never exist is those who make $200 million a year. Like who needs this much money? What are you gonna do with all of it? Does it even matter how much money you have after a certain amount? I think at a certain point it becomes some kind of disorder or a mental illness to pursue more and more money. Give me $100k a year and I’ll be a happy, very happy camper.

Edit: to be more clear, I’m talking about where I live currently. $100k where I live would put me in a very comfortable spot financially. My bad, everyone.

penquin,

I mean we all know that, he didn’t need to say anything. They want to make billions and they think Linux doesn’t have enough users to get those billions going. Not worth it to them. But hey, fuck him, fortnite is a shit game anyway.

penquin,

Damn it. Why did you have to make me aware of this? :/ I love Pantera.

penquin,

I want to use it but I don’t fully understand how it works. Does it use my device a storage for videos? Or does it only use it as a sharing device without storing the video on it? Does it only use the bandwidth on my device? Could someone please explain? I already read about it, but I’m still lost

penquin,

So, my device/bandwidth is basically a tunnel so to speak that helps push the video (that is saved on the uploader’s server" to others? So peertube only uses my Internet and my device’s CPU?

penquin,

Thank you. I just want to watch, no more no less and I’m ok with using my bandwidth to push the video around if that helps, since my ISP doesn’t have that bullshit cap. And by bandwidth we are talking Internet, right?

penquin,

Your opinions do need adjustments. I have two kids and if I get taxed more, I’m literally majorly fucked. Life is hard as is with the current tax system, and taxing me more would make it hell. God damn, you stressed me out 😂

penquin,

Thank you.

Shortcomings and regressions in Plasma 6 wayland for artists using and configuring graphic tablets

While cutting edge testing distribution such as Fedora are going Wayland only and the proponents of such move say that this push is required to shake things out. I would like to highlight some of the things which are not there yet on the graphic tablet configuration front on plasma wayland. Although the basic support for the...

penquin, (edited )

Is this only Fedora or is it Linux in general ditching Wayland on plasma? Also, will people be able to reinstall xorg and will it work fine? Wayland is not usable for me and I use plasma. This would be a big blow for me if I can’t use xorg. I use emdeavourOS. Are we good there?

penquin,

Phew, thank you. I was getting stressed out for a bit there. lol

penquin,

He’s banking on “trump bad, I good”. So many idiots are falling for this and will chase you out of the room with their pitchforks if you said you won’t vote for genocide Biden.

penquin,

I’ve heard this same sentence literally every single elections.

penquin,

It is true, but I believe it’s manufactured. It’s done on purpose. I’m personally not falling for it again. I’m done with voting for the “lesser of two evils”.

penquin,

They’re $100K in debt for a fridge.

penquin,

And I’m out here ecstatic for getting 4 hours on my laptop 😂

penquin,

People who think Trump or Biden has their best interest in mind vs me.

penquin,

Right there with ya, brother. 😂

penquin,

I’m going to be a junior soon. Thanks for the heads-up not do this 🤦🏽‍♂️

penquin,

So that’s not the norm?

penquin,

None. I open as many as I need then close every single one of them before closing my browser. That also includes my phone browser

penquin,

How can anyone even track them? Like is there anyone out there with that many tabs open who actually knows which is which?

penquin,

Your reason is actually totally justified, and I do the same at times, but I have never needed too many tabs. I think the max I’ve ever needed was like 7 or something like that. I’m talking about people like my wife where her browser on her phone shows an infinity sign from how many tabs she has open 😂

penquin,

The infinity and smiley will show when you’re over 99 tabs.

penquin,

It’s kinda sad that Arch has this “unstable” reputation, while it is very solid distro. I’ve been running it on my laptop for a long time and I honestly don’t even remember the last time it broke. Thing literally just works.

penquin,

My honest opinion? Neither. Just go with something that works out of the box like Linux mint until you’re done with school then you’ll have time to mess with your system. That’s what I did for a friend of mine when he went to college. Gave him a laptop with mint on it and never heard a single complaint from him. It has everything he needs. Focus on school now and worry about distros later.

penquin,

While true, but they also need a system that they don’t need to mess with so they can focus on their school. Unless they’re going into w degree that utilizes Linux then I guess it makes more sense.

penquin,

I guess I’m not crazy after all for looking out for OP. I am getting downvoted for it. 😁

penquin,

That’s pretty nice. I don’t really care about downvotes, especially on Lemmy. They don’t mean anything anyway.

penquin,

I am trying to install kde neon in a VM to try plasma 6 and actually test and report bugs, too, and the installer launches into a completely transparent window and I can’t proceed from there. Tried to install opensuse krypton, it was taking so long to install I actually gave up and quit the install.

penquin,

I honestly do have an extra laptop to test on. So I might just slap fedora kde on it or something.

penquin,

Sounds good. Thank you for that.

penquin,

Be very careful with Bleachbit, it’s very powerful and can ruin your system if you go too far cleaning. Ask me how I know 😂

penquin,

Let’s say, I checked too many boxes and messed with the root directory. Anything that shows as “slow” is dangerous

penquin,

I haven’t used it in a long time, but I know that it has two versions, one root and the other is regular (that’s on Linux, not sure about Windows). Also don’t check those boxes that say something like “slow” or something like that. That’s just my experience. I’m pretty sure if you read up on it or watch a couple of YouTube videos you’ll figure it out.

penquin,

Why? To clean up left overs? You think Linux doesn’t have that and is just all pink and unicorns? lol

penquin,

But they won’t touch those papers, they will still go to the playstation. lol

Wanting to improve my Linux skills after 17 months of daily driving Linux

I’ve been daily driving Linux for 17 months now (currently on Linux Mint). I have got very comfortable with basic commands and many just works distros (such as Linux Mint, or Pop!_OS) with apt as the package manager. I’ve tried Debian as a distro to try to challenge myself, but have always ran into issues. On my PC, I could...

penquin,

Nah, kept it for a while then removed it. I might give it another shot and see. Poor laptop has seen so many distros it probably hates me now.

penquin,

God status. 😂
