SirQuackTheDuck,

“well, we’re not selling it, we’re just using 247 advertising agencies to measure the general performance of our site. Nothing targeted, we’d never do that.” - totally legit companies that absolutely value user rights

/s, if that wasn’t obvious enough.

SirQuackTheDuck,

Out of all the hills that are out there, this is the one you’re going for?

Interesting choice

SirQuackTheDuck,

Which means the companies using the specs pay the company making the specs for everyone (companies and people) to use.

That sounds fair, but I wouldn’t be surprised if capitalism fucked it up anyhow.

SirQuackTheDuck,

Doesn’t the ISO also includes time periods? Because if it does, those are amazing.

Without any explanation, you should be able to decypher these periods just by looking at them:

  • P1Y
  • P6M2D
  • P1DT4H
  • PT42M
SirQuackTheDuck,

It makes the difference between M meaning month or M meaning minute. Small differences.

SirQuackTheDuck,

It’s mandatory, which also makes it nice and predictable.

SirQuackTheDuck,

That’s why I’m working in that area. Gotta give the alcoholism some competition up there.

SirQuackTheDuck,

So you’re an NPC in an average AAA-game?

SirQuackTheDuck,

12,600. No date was specified.

SirQuackTheDuck,

> Dutch Bros
> no racks stacked with bikes, or bike-through

As a Dutchman, what a Bullshit Brand

SirQuackTheDuck,

I want EU laws against this shit they’re slowly gaining in popularity here (mostly due to micro-egos compensating with US imports, incidentally for actual work purpose).

SirQuackTheDuck,

I’ve seen restaurants that add a per-person Christmas booking fee for dinner on 24-26 December. I’d assume it is for the wait staff, but the union conditions aren’t really all that great for the service industry.

Country: NL

SirQuackTheDuck,

The main anti-islam laws aren’t gonna fly anytime soon. They require a change in the foundational law (art. 1), which takes a 75% majority of the parliament elected by the next election. Not something easily achieved.

The more worrying parts are the hype to incarceration, having a zero-policy system that badly punishes without any merit but to lock people up, further stressing the already trembling mental health system.

And there are plenty of election promises that only get carried by this party. Abandoning the EU, for example, will be something the part wouldn’t get any support in from other mayor parties and is likely to be culled.

But it’s all just hypothetical, not sure what’ll happen next, it won’t be quick that’s for sure.

Ninja edit: proofread and minor phrasing

SirQuackTheDuck,

Google is really pushing it through, and since it’s usually easy to get small files from webp, a lot of sites support it

SirQuackTheDuck,

And this, my fellow Lemmings, we call gatekeeping.

SirQuackTheDuck,

It totally missed the mark even if it was sarcastic. I don’t think a “/s” in the end would’ve saved that.

Calling yourself a fanboy is perfectly reasonable even if you haven’t seen every episode or movie out there. They like it, they can call themselves a fan.

Furthermore, not everyone can afford a Disney+ subscription to watch the full Marvel lore or can’t afford the time to catch up. That doesn’t restrict them from being a fanboy.

SirQuackTheDuck,
  1. Use a mental block
Close your eyes for 8s - 25 min, and pretend not to hear anything

  2. What? I can’t hear you!
Why play one ad when you can play a dozen. Open multiple YouTube tabs at once and let the ads roll at the same time. A few minutes of noise for a whole few minutes of ad-free play

  3. Use AdBlock Premium Plus
Of course, the best block is not loading the ads. Using the discount code AFFILIATEWHORE you can get a one year Pro plan for AdBlock Premium with six months free for just $169,- per year and enjoy the ad-free experience you deserve.

^(/s, of course)

SirQuackTheDuck,

I mean, Widevine is present in all browsers and actively used by Netflix for example. YouTube also uses this when you’re watching movies on YouTube Movies.

Not running DRM on the majority of YouTube content is also likely due to the added cost of running such encryption (the encryption is usually on a per-customer level, not one key fits all) and the added bandwidth and computer cycles required. Not to mention that this might be a legal struggle with the content creators.

SirQuackTheDuck,

making sure u get a well-rounded diet

This is the only important part.

Vegan is fine if you’re replacing the stuff you take out, not just skip it. It’s easier now, but when vegan was just gaining traction, the alternatives weren’t as plentyful as they are now.

But just make sure your diet is well balanced.

SirQuackTheDuck,

That’s why the UK company is using a cease-and-desist approach, which apparently is an option in the UK.

SirQuackTheDuck,

We can hear you, you’re not exactly quiet when drinking that tea.

SirQuackTheDuck,

Since I hardly use the ms store, you can get rid of it: winget source delete msstore and then just run winget install chrome or winget install firefox

SirQuackTheDuck,

The UK will do anything to stand out, like creating their own country abbreviations instead of using the goddamn ISO.

“NTL” for “The Netherlands”, really?

SirQuackTheDuck,

I’m on salary, still not working overhours unless I get paid. My contract states 40 hours, I’m working 40 hours. Need more? Pay significantly more.

SirQuackTheDuck,

You missed an important bit:

who in the right mind

SirQuackTheDuck,

It shouldn’t make assumptions about your data by default, and changing values that look like they’re in a specific format should be opt-in, not default behavior

But that’s exactly what made the “auto” data type of Excel such a powerful tool when introduced. If you’re storing text, make the datatype “text”, problem solved.

Nowadays, when making stuff like Excel from scratch, you could opt for a “these look like dates, change the type from ‘none’ to ‘date’?” but with middle management being conditioned on the data type being ‘auto’, that’s something that’s hard to change.

SirQuackTheDuck,

so Israel can pretend like they follow international laws for whatever comes next.

They aren’t part of the Geneva Convention, so they’ll likely stick with the their own (US-backed) rules.

SirQuackTheDuck,

Even a “pro” install on Windows 10 pre-configured via Rufus will try to install fucking Candy Crush. Professional software my ass.

Ubuntu at least has a very clear “what you need it for” question in its setup, and extended support for older versions for corps. Seems like companies may actually be better off on Linux these days unless you they’re using Adobe products.

SirQuackTheDuck,

We have apps for that in NL. You order and pay in the app, the staff makes your order and you pick it up when you get there.

Works like a charm on train stations, as you know your ETA.

SirQuackTheDuck,

I’d much rather ban home delivery for most parcel (stuff like couches and fridges excluded) and have them put in one of those package vaults.

The postman drives all the packages to the vault, chucks them in, you pick them up when you’ve got time (they work 24/7), everyone wins.

SirQuackTheDuck,

The Google Play beta is the beta version for the existing app (aka edge version), not the rebuilt one (which isn’t released yet, except as beta)

SirQuackTheDuck,

It’s just more comfortable to stay in the middle lane.

It’s stil a dick move if the rightmost lane is free. Then you’re effectively overtaking a phantom car at the exact same velocity (as nobody is allowed to pass right).

SirQuackTheDuck,

What makes your right to go fast on the left lane more important than their right to go a reasonable ~120km/h in the middle lane?

Nothing, but that wasn’t the created scenario. If the right lane isn’t free, do stick in the middle lane of course (squishing two vehicles together isn’t gonna make them go faster, usually). The scenario created was talking of an empty right lane, which should only exist on the left side, as we should drive on the right side of the road.

SirQuackTheDuck,

The point is they are overtaking just slightly faster.

Trucks also spent long stretches in the same order, sometimes they change things up.

The speeds of trucks are measured on-board by a tachograph, so any big deviation can give them a fine, even if they weren’t caught on the spot.

And that 20 second delay really isn’t gonna impact the trip as a whole. Just rolling with it will make your trip less stressful, and therefore more enjoyable. If you’re late, rushing through traffic isn’t gonna make a significant impact, except on your risk of accidents.

Deleting my Twitter account and data - Twitter not complying with GDPR

I filed a GDPR deletion request with Twitter a couple of weeks ago. It was quite a challenge to find a way to contact Twitter (for anyone who wants to you can do so via: secure.ethicspoint.com/…/default_reporter.asp) - but I finally succeded. I did not simply wanted to deactivate my account I want all of my data to be deleted...

SirQuackTheDuck,

For reddit you can use Redact, it can edit the comments for you, they don’t seem to revert those changes.

SirQuackTheDuck,

holy shit this is still maintained

The struggles of a Linux user

SirQuackTheDuck,

According to my local (Dutch) laws, I don’t need to own a physical copy. A YouTube purchase is sufficient for me to legally download a copy over p2p, I’m just not allowed to upload it.

We’re still being charged “thuiskopie” taxes on storage devices, so I’m still allowed to make copies for personal use, either via the app I bought it on, or as an MKV found on torrent sites.

SirQuackTheDuck,

Yeah, but I usually buy it somewhere and then torrent it. Except for YouTube, most UIs aren’t all that dashing (or just slow, like Prime).

SirQuackTheDuck,

Stop playing attention to this billionaire idiot, he’s only spewing vomit at this point to stay in the limelight. Nothing of sustenance is coming out of that guy.

SirQuackTheDuck,

I feel like I should just claim homes that are empty at this point.

You bought it as an investment but nobody is renting it since you’re letting your rentee pay your bills? Looks like this is my property now.

SirQuackTheDuck,

Yeah, sure, as if I’d like to trash all my points I put in IQ.

Become an octopus and keep all that XP

SirQuackTheDuck,

We’ve got those condensed over at lemmynsfw.com, and I believe they are actively looking for more mods

SirQuackTheDuck,

Also less celeb gossip please, need a place where I can get away from that on the Internet.

You get celeb gossip? I believe I’m somehow connected to the sewage hose that’s Elon Musk posts. I’d love for some more varied content instead of “[rich idiot] said [something incredibly stupid]”

SirQuackTheDuck,

Just install windows on a physically separate disk. It doesn’t eat other disks, but might take a bite of other partitions on the same disk (if NTFS is corrupted or misaligned).
