This always puzzled me. Why don’t humans act much more aggressive or crazed like its often depicted with animals. Afaik there’s 2 types of rabies, “dumb” and “furious” so my question is more towards the 2nd type. For example, we never hear of rabies causing a human to accidentally bite another human so why is that?
I’ve got some overlap with OP’s list through: Mozilla Foundation, Wikimedia Foundation, Signal Technology Foundation, EFF, and ACLU (and I’m subscribed to a Bitwarden Family plan)
Some other places I’ll be donating:
Doctors Without Borders
Human Rights Watch
World Central Kitchen
Asante Africa Foundation (supporting education & scholarships for people, especially girls, in Eastern Africa - great place to donate if you want a small $ to go a long way)
Save the Manatee Foundation (get them back on the endangered species list!)
Trees for the Future (restoring ecosystems AND providing food/income/educational resources to impoverished communities)
A local charity that supports emergency preparedness and community activities in my community
Got a steam mop - just use plain water, will never go back. If there’s a particularly dirty spot I may hit it with a little dish soap and a scrub brush, but otherwise it’s 99% steam cleaning.
I agree with this, but honestly I use filtered water from my fridge. I considered it a bit of a middle ground, still harder than distilled, but better than tap.
I’ve only had it for about a year so I can’t speak for its longevity, but I can appreciate that it scrubs and steams at the same time and does a pretty good job removing dirt etc.
Vinegar is a pretty good all purpose cleaner but I’d also flag that it’s a pretty strong acid, which over time can cause issues for most natural surfaces (wood, stone, etc.).
It’ll take time to notice but you’ll wind up having to put in extra work to maintain good surface finishes.
If shoppers are buying less they should just try increasing the price. More revenue per sale you don’t even need those lousy shoppers who left! What could go wrong?
Hi! So I currently have the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and at the moment with the s23 ultra education discount the phone is $150 off regular price, and they’re offering me $500 for my iPhone to trade-in....
More money saving in the long run is on keeping your current phone, second around be to buy the out of season phone (S22). The S23 price will probably drop when the S24 comes out. I doubt you will lose much trade in value for your phone because that’s less tied to the price of your phone and more tied to the value of converting customers and locking in longer contracts.
Unless there’s a truly revolutionary new feature in the S24, I don’t see much benefit to getting it, especially through the lense of money saving - “what if I wait for the new phone” will just leave you in a perpetual state of waiting.
Adding to this - I really want to emphasize how much of an edge case this is.
Around 60% of the world’s population lives in urban environments, and only ~10-15% of the population works in agriculture where one might expect to encounter a scenario like this.
Living on 10 acres and raising chickens who you hug every night before bed and treat with the utmost respect is a nice ideal to strive for, but it is not achievable for most people, and there is no scenario where we maintain global meat & dairy consumption levels ethically/sustainably. Treating it as a viable solution is disingenuous because it’s only a solution for a limited few.
This was a big game changer for me - just learning how to cook delicious veggies/plant-based foods at home dropped my meat consumption dramatically. From there I started noticing which restaurants actually had good vegan/vegetarian options, and as my pallette shifted, so did my list of favorite restaurants.
you can get plenty of fats from a vegan diet if you are smart about it
You don’t even need to be smart about it. French fries are vegan. As are Oreos, and probably a billion other things that can get you plenty of fats without trying.
People seem to have the misconception that vegans just eat raw fruits and veggies all day (as evidenced by the fact that the “vegan option” at my work Halloween party was just a Costco fruit bowl). Most of the cooked veggies I eat are tossed in olive or avocado oil, a great source of fats.
Sure, some of the vegans I know supplement D3 and B12 because plant based foods, unless fortified, are lacking in these nutrients, but guess what, those are super easy things to pick up at the grocery store vitamin aisle - a small price to pay for all of the other benefits of going vegan.
All of that said, I’ve never met a vegan who had any difficulty getting enough fat in their diet.

Can pair with your phone over Bluetooth, or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can spend the rest of your budget on a Raspberry Pi and install Home Assistant on it - it’ll pick these things up automatically, and you can start on your quest of understanding your home with one of the best tools out there.
Snag a 4-pack of AAA Eneloops & a charger, and you won’t have to worry about disposing of batteries for all of your new sensors.
You can also swap one of their outdoor ones with an indoor one with a screen so you can view at a glance - just look for one that takes AAA batteries.
Highlights: In the wee hours of July 8, 2020, 37-year-old Freddie Lee McKee was found dead in Columbia, Mo. Authorities say two 911 calls went out before his body was found. Examples: diablo 4 on blizzard client will let you play it before the full game is installed. The ps5 also let’s you do this when installing a new game. But I’ve never seen this option on steam games.
I don’t think this is true, because you can max out your character, uninstall the game, reinstall it, and still start early. Plus, the MMO-esq nature of D4, you could easily join a party with someone who is L10, doing L10+ content. It’s more about preloading things at low resolution, then improving as new resources download
I’d outlaw sauce bottles which make getting it all out harder, especially the ones which don’t have the opening at the bottom and make it impossible to put the bottle with the opening facing downwards.
Same with Gameboy -> Gameboy Color, and Gameboy + Gameboy Color -> Gameboy Advanced. Nintendo has a better history than most of supporting backwards compatibility

I mean, I count about 24 “paragraphs” (many are just single sentences), but you’re right, at least 3 of them discuss consequences, which unfortunately just amount to “Trump loses ‘control’ of his fraud businesses.”
Given that his name is still on the building, and he “controls” them about as much as the average person “controls” their cat, I doubt anything comes of this.
is there a way to fix this? unfortunately i’m stuck using teams for work and would rather not use the standalone app or in a chromium browser. however, my firefox browser slows to a crawl and becomes unusable usually at the point where three or four people join a video call. can anybody help me troubleshoot this? i thought...
Can’t say I’ve had the same issue, but I only use teams video on rare occasion.
Not an ideal solution, but if FF isn’t working for you and you don’t want MS / Google stuff installed on your main system, you could spin up a sandbox when you need to hop on Teams. It’ll default to having edge, or you can install the teams app & run it from there.
If you want some level of persistence you could create a portable Chrome setup that stays logged in and is accessible to your sandbox.

I think the Lemmy dev team could use some help pushing out more moderation controls if there are any devs out there who want to make the world a little bit better place.
For starters it would be nice to be able to set up rules like:
You can’t comment for 1 day, you can’t comment links for 1 week, you can’t post until you have X comment karma, and you can’t post images / links to non-whitelisted sites until you have mod approval/Y karma/whatever. Toss in a rate limit on posting, and it’s not perfect but it may give mods a little more breathing room. Without adequate tools I understand why certain instances choose to go with the walled garden approach.

Hard to argue something isn’t an objectively huge advantage to your business if you’re spending $10b for it.
My only fear in all of this is we may get monkey pawed - if Google stops paying for placement, Firefox loses 90% of its revenue, and the anti-trust case may further cement Chrome/Chromium monopoly.

I played around with a lot of smart bulbs when if first started making my house a little smarter. Almost every one was plagued with issues - too bright on 1%, weird color balancing, connectivity problems, no transition time, etc.
Hue bulbs just work and are now in most of my fixtures. The only time they don’t make the cut is when they don’t work aesthetically.
It’s more than that - doubling air resistance only doubles the energy use if it’s the only inefficiency on the train (e.g., no losses in the magnets, HVAC, lighting, etc.). Add onto that the fact that you’re basically eliminating rolling resistance from traditional trains when switching to maglev, and the expected outcome should be much less than double.
Finally, the most important part, each high speed rail route of any meaningful distance has the opportunity to displace a certain amount of air travel, so big picture, HSR results in a significant decrease in overall energy consumption.

Huge props to Mozilla on this one - their article is clear and thorough. A lot of the studies are very vague, limited in scope, or way too technical, which makes them hard to share and discuss broadly.
The phone helps get them more data, but they can gather plenty just from the car and its data connection.
The really fun question is - if you elect not to pay for the data plan for your car, will they still enable it anyways because they can make more money selling your information than it costs to maintain a cell contract for the vehicle?
They had many more stickers as well as an ongoing request board where you could nominate FOSS projects to be added. And you could buy individual stickers… It really tanked when SM took over.
