Why don't rabies infected humans act like rabies infected animals

This always puzzled me. Why don’t humans act much more aggressive or crazed like its often depicted with animals. Afaik there’s 2 types of rabies, “dumb” and “furious” so my question is more towards the 2nd type. For example, we never hear of rabies causing a human to accidentally bite another human so why is that?

Extrasvhx9he,

I usually ask them for their phone

Extrasvhx9he,

EBay deals and thrifting. I can spend hours just looking at different things, seeing how much of a deal it is and not buying it

Is SMS 2FA broken/degraded for anyone else?

I had an issue logging into Twitch last night for the first time in a while. I just didn’t get any 2FA messages delivered to me, until about 12 hours later when I was asleep and they were probably long invalidated. and now suddenly I can’t log in to my MVD either. Apparently there’s some sort of SMS short+long code outage...

Extrasvhx9he,

When this gets sorted, why not switch to totp or authenticator app as its called sometimes

Extrasvhx9he,

Yeah not a fan of how Lemmy implemented it. Couldn’t even manually input the seed so I had to rely on keepassdx. I’m assuming you already checked that the time is correct and you didn’t modify the entry, so I’m sorry to hear that

Extrasvhx9he,

Oh that’s good to hear. Dang was under the impression twitch allowed totp but guess I was wrong. I personally don’t use it so that was kinda surprising

Extrasvhx9he,

Think they also make UVB Bulbs for people so you can get some Vitamin D

How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?

I was going through Pine64’s page again after I found the latest KDE announcement. With that said, I seem to see a lot of issues with firmware on the Pine, whilst the Librem is just plain out of budget for me. Was interested in how many people here run a Linux mobile as a daily driver, and how has your experience been?...

Extrasvhx9he,

I’m not that person but I’ve been using GrapheneOS for about 8 months now. Setting up an esim was probably the worst thing I had to do but it was still relatively easy. Lmk if you got any questions

Extrasvhx9he,

Every animated movie looks the same now

Extrasvhx9he,

Jingle all the way and not a movie but SAO Abridged

Extrasvhx9he,

Noping the hell out of that situation. Hehe get it?

Extrasvhx9he,

Not necessarily a sequel but kinda surprised they didn’t make a prequel to coraline

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

About 3ish years ago brought myself a spring assisted knife for around 14$. Its my go to for everything where a knife is needed and holds a decent edge for a month or 2.

Edit: only downside is the spine is a bit too rounded so it’s not the best for striking ferro rods

Edit 2: totally forgot tis the season. There’s this solid ice cream scoop that has a gel that heats up using the heat from your hand. It’s one piece of metal so it should last the giftee a while. I’ll find the link for you. Here it is

Extrasvhx9he,

I like people but I hate crowds. Just find them annoying

What phone do you sugest for your grandparents?

I got a task to buy a smart phone for my grandparents, they are not techsavy but they know how to use basic functions. Iam looking for an andoid because it has language pack i need. I dont need it to have lots of functions, onley a good camera and a big screen. Bonus points if it can be flashed with some kind of simplefied...

You can basically make a dumb smartphone with grapheneos so a pixel would be good for them. If you dont need a dumb phone set it up with the playstore and whatever apps they use and boom good to go

Edit: I would also setup accessibility features. Forgot to mention regardless of os add some kind of network firewall or DNS solution to block malicious/phishing domains. The elderly are often victims of scams

Extrasvhx9he,

The foss apps I dont agree with but a stock grapheneos setup is as basic as it gets so even a non tech person can use it. OP can even set it up for them to auto update whatever apps they use through the playstore so the grandparents dont really have to do anything

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

I agree to disagree it’s really not that different from vanilla especially if he does go the playstore route, so a person familiar with android can naviagate grapheneos. The only problem would be if they break their device and the thumbprint scanner would have to be recalibrated. Personally I would just keep it as the stock grapheneos setup with accessibility features turned to max. That way its a dumb smartphone

Edit: forgot to mention regardless of os add some kind of network firewall or DNS solution to block malicious/phishing domains. The elderly are often victims of scams

Extrasvhx9he,

I see where you are coming from but I disagree. Using grapheneos will allow much more security and control over the device so OP can fine tune their grandparent’s device to their liking. As for not agreeing with the foss apps I really mean in this situation specifically. Foss apps often run into problems with stability (look at newpipe due to youtube) and ease of use (look at collabora) which will frustrate an older person and with grapheneos at least OP can further lockdown the proprietary apps that their grandparents would use if they do so in the first place. However, since OP stated they just want a phone that’s simple that’s why I would go with the stock grapheneos setup without adding new applications. As for compatiability, unless they are driving or banking which I doubt since they just know tha basics of a smartphone, I doubt this will be a problem since the majority of mainstream apps work. Grapheneos is meant for freedom and securiry over your device not just privacy

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

Havent tried every app but If I had to think of some:

  • an offline foss calendar that can import ics files (simple calendar is the only option soon fossify)
  • an app that can display Checksums for files
  • a dark privacy overlay for phones that can’t use privacy screen protectors, like newer gen pixels

Edit: Second an offline fitness tracker where a person can manually input info. Been using an ods file for a couple of years but its a pain to use collabora on android

Extrasvhx9he,

Have you tried Quillpad?

Extrasvhx9he,

Not sure if its useful to you but grapheneos has contact scopes that lets you choose which contacts an application has access to.

Extrasvhx9he,

Damn I appreciate you. Thank you

Extrasvhx9he,

I’d probably die but I would like to be in a garden

Extrasvhx9he,

A hell of a way to go out

How to get rid of the creeper

Kinda bored so here we go: the government officially recognizes the creeper, from jeepers creepers, as a threat. Congratulations you are now task on coming up with a plan on killing or at least semi-permanently incapacitating the monster. You are backed by the government but keep the cost and destruction down. For obvious...

Extrasvhx9he,

Crap forgot to add that info. I’ll edit it in

Extrasvhx9he,

Thank you for that It was an interesting watch haha. Never even noticed the parasite honestly so that kinda blew my mind

Extrasvhx9he,

From the pic , the word says “lofi.” The bar is probably some kind of battery indicator or volume switch?

Extrasvhx9he,

Damn thats true good catch

THANK YOU LEMMINGS!!! Update (lemmy.world)

Merry Happy! I posted a few days ago asking for help with a prelit tree that had entire portions not lighting up, or flickering like crazy. It was a crack tree situation and I could not find anything helpful on my own and you wonderful people came together and saved Christmas/ yamainwitch-mas. I was literally ready to just throw...

Extrasvhx9he,

Loving gallery so far and yeah tried etar but the lack of import and export is kind of a biggie for me. Appreciate your help

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

Depends, can they also pinpoint where the thoughts originally came from? If no then I’d be trolling everyone so much

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

Phonograph plus if you are a local music nut like me and obtainium if you prefer to not use fdroid to manage your foss app updates

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

Imo yes since iirc its the only one besides vlc that actually read the metadata of my music files correctly

Extrasvhx9he,

Plus, its also on fdroid if you want to go that way. I’ll edit my original comment

Extrasvhx9he,

Pricly pear cactus fruit and those red, sea urchin lookin fruits (i forgot their name)

Extrasvhx9he,

Seagate, it let me down too many times

Extrasvhx9he,

Yeah bascially drilled the 3,2,1 backup method into my skull because of seagate

Extrasvhx9he,

The iron giant and bubble boy are some of my earliest memories. Still great movies

[SOLVED] Is there an app which can read everything on the screen for you?

My phone screen broke but everything else works fine except for the fact that I can’t see what’s happening on my phone, I was able to install an app which mirrors my phone and thus control my phone indirectly, but I was wondering if there was a way I could do basic functions like reading texts without seeing the screen. I...

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

On android theres “Talkback” via the accessbility settings not sure if that does everything you want though

Extrasvhx9he,

Thats great glad it worked out for you and yeah it must be tough. Thank god for the devs that put these features into our devices

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

Think the samsung s7 fe might be a good option but I have to double check if it supports dex

Edit: yeah Dex supported plus expandable storage

Extrasvhx9he, (edited )

Also a paper emergency sheet thats been laminated backed up in the same way

Extrasvhx9he,

Alone again, naturally

Edit: obligatory link to song

Extrasvhx9he,
