Considering you are getting No such file or directory error then

  1. Is the path correct?
  2. Can lemmy access the file? For example if lemmy is running in docker the path/socket does not exist in the container unless specifically instructed…
  3. Does lemmy process have the required permissions to actually read/access the file?
taaz, (edited )

If lemmy is actually running in docker then you should rather use network instead of socket file - while it should work I would be afraid of docker shenanigans when it comes to mounting a socket file as volume into the container (it should work, but …).

You should be able to access postgres over network on the host thru extra_hosts settings:

<span style="color:#323232;">extra_hosts:
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> - "host.docker.internal:host-gateway"
</span>

taaz,

You might have to tick “Force Composition Pipeline” in nvidia-settings.
Without it most UIs are laggy or tearing heavily on my rig.

taaz,

Isekai anime - in general means the protagonist is transported into a different fantasy world from the real one, sometimes it’s thru “magic” or “tech” (mmo VR style) but mostly it’s as a kind of reincarnation.

One of these animes had the protagonist hit by a truck while saving someone and with the rising popularity of these shows, a trope emerged “got hit by X and got isekai’d into Y”.

taaz,

Ah you described it better.

taaz, (edited )

What. The. Fuck?

It took few months for them to fix the reloading bug that sometimes did the animation but didn’t actually reload!
(This is a rather hardcore extraction shooter, imagine stuff just not working and you loosing the character because of that.)

Detailed damage in/output was added after years of community asking for it (actually, I am pretty sure we asked for replay system).

Cheaters, report button sure seems to be just for making you feel like you did something.

Who asked for flying drones beatles? In western shooter?

And the game still runs like shit.

The only reason why it’s still being played is first - because of the high risk, high reward loop and second - because your design department did a fantastic job on the characters, weapons and “story”.

Graveyard protection commander help

So I’m running a stickfingers commander deck and I seem to keep getting bojuka bogged to death and it really fucks me up. I am looking for suggestions to add to have more graveyard protection. ATM I have elixir of immortality in the deck and thinking of adding orbs of warding. But I would love more suggestions.

taaz,

Not sure if Vencord has a plugin that limits the apps telemetry itself though it does make using it better.
The harsh reality is that discord will sell everything you ever type or send thru it and there is no avoiding that even with 3rd party client.

Total Annihilation remake - though today it’s definitely more then just a remake.

taaz,

Yes but only in the chunks (areas) of the world you have never visited before (or have never been near them up to your render distance setting).

taaz,

I am still bitching when I have to touch anything dbus, x11 or xdg.
Also, finding where an environment variable comes from is fun too.

taaz,

Hows the active player count and meta looking these days?

Afair ccp has been killing the game for some time now.

What stealth nerfs? Did they nerf my beloved Astero?

I was a worhmoler back when I was still playing so big null block stuff isn’t really my forte

Help request: Updates wrecked performance

Need a bit of help here. I recently updated the nvidia drivers on my machine from 535.113 to 535.129 and my performance tanked. I can’t run anything except for peglin at 14fps. I’ve tried a clean install of nvidia drivers but that doesn’t seem to help. I’m well versed in Unix, but not really with gaming on Linux. No...

taaz, (edited )

So, I would watch ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/xorg.0.log for any warning and/or errors and try googling them.
Also Arch wiki is often great “checklist” even for different distros.

nvtop for monitoring the nvidia card memory and “cpu”, also glxgears for basic benchmarking.

I am guessing you are playing Peglin thru steam (so proton), you might want to try changing to proton experimental, see if it’s not just when playing thru proton.

Recommendations for the best, low-heat, GPU with ray-tracing in 2023?

I have a Nvidia TitanX in my HTPC, which is known for its high heat output, and it keeps overheating when I play 3D games. The case has two intake fans on one side and two exhaust fans on the other, but lacks ventilation on the top panel. I’m tired of the random shutdowns during game play and was wondering if anyone had any...

taaz,

Power and heat-wise to performance I was pretty satisfied with 3070 but it’s just a feeling and (bad) comparison because now I have 3080 and that chugs power huffs heat lol

YouTube once again ahead of uBO on Firefox; fiddling with the extension settings not working this time and DDG search is useless ... anyone got ideas?

Pretty much the subject line. uBO has successfully blocked the nag screen enough times that I can’t play anything at this point. No preview loads, and the play button serves no function. I’d really prefer not to have to find content on YT, copy the URL and use Piped/Invidious, but this ongoing escalation is steeling my...

taaz,

I usually do this:

  • refresh uBo caches
  • delete all site data of youtube (in the shield thingy left of address bar)
  • close the browser

Mostly always worked

taaz,

Was just thinking of trying out RoR2 and hopefully getting my group to play it (eventually).

I guess I will wait a bit and see how it goes.

taaz,

I will go back to this game once I see the promised new engine version.
Lately it felt as if only dlcs got the main attention.

I am avoiding tiktok style videos like the plague but it’s hard to escape youtube shorts.

On the other thand yesterday I finished the new Down The Rabbit Hole - EVE: Online by Fredrik Knudsen - about 6hrs runtime

Edit: escaping shorts in the sense that some of them are actually well made, informative and/or funny

Just realized I can just use "..." to go back two directories! Is this a zsh feature?

I accidentally discovered that both “cd …” and “…” work, and moreover, I can add more dots to go back further! I’m using zsh on iTerm2 on macOS. I’m pretty sure this isn’t a cd feature. Is this specific to zsh or iTerm2? Are there other cool features I just never knew existed??...

taaz,

And - to go back to where you came from.

taaz, (edited )

One more, install and enable fzf in your .zshrc.

It makes ctrl+R (reverse history search) a lot better and cooler

taaz,

in zsh just the - is enough for me though it might be a feature of oh-my-zsh config

taaz,

I had a similar question few weeks ago, check it out biglemmowski.win/post/267187 (lemmy.world/post/7024053)

If you are looking for just easy root and/or good ROM support then Pixels come out on top.

taaz,

Vencord is nice, not a 3rd party though

What is the best linux alternative to OneNote?

I’ve no problem with using LibreOffice for most of my document needs, but i haven’t found a good substitute for microsoft’s OneNote yet. I mainly use it to plan my RPG games and it helps a lot. What alternatives are there for organizing notes on linux, with similar features to those that OneNote provides?

taaz,

Obsidian is my go to for D&D.

They still sprinkle a bit of their own stuff into the markdown but it’s generally usable outside.

taaz,

The linked research: notes.valdikss.org.ru/jabber.ru-mitm/

I have two dedis from Hetzner and I was somewhat satisfied with it. Oh my, it migh be that time of the year where I go shopping for a NUC.

Can someone explain Pipe's LBRY usage to me?

Soo, I just set up my own Piped instance and noticed that you could disable “LBRY-integration”. I did a very quick search and learned that this is some sort of decentralised content sharing thingy. I thought nothing much of it at the time, assumed it was some way to speed up streams or whatever and just went on with my day....

taaz,

Was asking the same question when reading about the Odyssey and lbry inc stuff.

In short it seems like decentralized indexer, so Peertube should be able to use it for searching content (I did not verify this).

Longer answer is that classic indexers join content metadata (file name, …) with the BitTorrent hash, this does the same thing but instead of being a single website this metadata+bt hash is stored in the distributed blockchain (so no singular entity hold this information, censor resistance etc).
The data is still distributed thru BitTorrent so it has all the stuff of that protocol like files going dark when noone is seeding.
E: also uploaders of the content can also set a price for getting the files but I have no idea how they handle people just sharing the torrents (hashses) outside or w/e

My answer is that it’s glorified DHT with metadata search.

I found this when searching for some more technical stuff - spec.lbry.com.

taaz,

Solution in search of a problem

In this case, it can be considered as a solution to actual problem - trackers/indexers going down, or actually a deeper problem of BitTorrent, where you need the centralized trackers/indexers to find the torrent of the content you are looking for (you can’t just open qbittorrent and search for Arch Linux ISO).
But the execution of this solution is definitely up for debate.

taaz,

Ah, I would like to support the brand/idea but the specs are simply sub-par for the price, though it is definitely better with the replace-ability then pixels.

taaz,

Thank you for the long answer. I am somewhat torn between Fairphone and Pixel.

I don’t think I will ever own iPhone - in short I do not like Apple and the whole walled garden thing, though I do agree these are best devices for long-term use especially when it comes to security updates. I am also aware Google is not much better and if I get a Pixel I am definitely flashing it with Lineage.
