On the left we have Amber, Johnny Depp’s ex-gf, that enjoys long walks on the beach and pooping on your bed when she’s upset with you like an angry dachshund.

On the right, Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett. Not sure where to start with her except to say I wouldn’t trust her alone with your kids friends.

Judging by my experiences with cats it depends how gassy they are.

I had/have 5 cats. (All formerly strays.) This summer, 2 local strays gave birth near my house. I spent the summer trying to make friends with them and mostly succeeded with the exception of the one stray momma who will come up to the house for treats and food, but still doesn’t like me touching her. So now I guess I have 14 cats unofficially, and the resistant momma will make 15 if I emerge victorious. (Obviously I can’t take them all in to the house but I have a shed I can keep warm for them in the winter to make their lives a little easier.)

Now I’m saving extra money and me and my neighbor are chipping in together to get them all fixed. We’re probably going to have to trap “Smokey” (The one momma who still doesn’t quite trust me yet) to get her done while we try and find homes for all these adorable rodents. Not something I can really afford at the moment, but I’m still going to do as much as I can for them.

It sounds like we may have found a home or two for at least a few of them, so that’s a bonus at least.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Ya they don’t do that here. The only option is they’d come and pick them up and euthanize them. I’ve been calling around the last while trying out my options. One vet clinic around 30km away does have a “family” deal for litters which knocks a bit off the price at least, so that looks like the route we’re going to take. Otherwise it’s $120 for males, and $200 for females.

I remember when the rounded Caprice came out… first saw it when our local Police got one. We couldn’t stop laughing whenever it went by because it looked like someone had an explosive fart in it with all the windows rolled up.

After awhile though it kind of grew on me… the Impala SS version was in my opinion a pretty good looking car. impala ss

Hunting may seem a little cruel but depending on the circumstances very necessary. Some animals overpopulate and hunting can keep animal populations manageable, in check, and overall much healthier.

But fuck trophy hunters.

I got so used to using my turn signals when I used to drive truck that I tend to still flip them on subconsciously even if there’s no other vehicles within miles of me.

Not a bad habit to get into though, I have much worse ones.

Funny how their names are the exact opposite of what they stand for. I guess you can’t drum up as much support if you’re being honest.

We used to have a cat we named Julia Hackensplatter, because when we first got her she was so sick she’d cough and shitspray all over the place.

(She got better though, and lived quite a long time after a lot of love and meds.)

I understand the draw. It’s boring in the country for most young people. At least there’s always something to do or something to see in the city.

I was a city kid that ended up in the country, and it’s like a different world. It took me years to slow down to country pace. Now that I’m older I enjoy it, but it took a lot of getting used to. There’s things I miss about the city but I prefer being out here where I never have to lock things up for fear of it getting stolen, cleaner air, and all the other issues city life brings.

The biggest issue I have out here is keeping the deer out of my garden.

I’ve tried the hair clippings and these guys don’t seem to care. I’m a hairy guy, so maybe I smell too much like a sasquatch?

Haven’t tried the cat thing tho… there’s strays that live out back but I’m not sure if they do their business there so I may give that a try.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I may try that. Some people down the road put a 8 foot chicken wire fence around theirs to keep them out, but I kind of wanted to avoid looking like a prison yard.

I could have used this a few months back but I’ve already nuked most everything from my account there, aside from the account itself.

Still, nice work! I’m sure it’ll come in handy for a lot of people yet.

18+ How can I deal with strays?

::: spoiler Violence My home is in a very rural area in the US with no spay/neuter laws or animal control. It is also down a road that is the local traditional dumping ground for unwanted animals. I get how you feel. There are 7 stray kittens behind my house right now and I can’t really take them in, but I feel super bad that they don’t have a home. I’ve been saving up some money to at least get the females fixed but money’s a bit tight. They are so damned cute (and friendly) it bothers me, but there’s just so many cats around here. Winter is coming too and where I live it commonly gets below -35c (-31f) so they kind of have a bleak future ahead of them.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I actually have that outside right now… a box wrapped with some insulated tarp and a doorway cut into it, but that won’t do much when winter hits us full force and the snow piles up.

I’m thinking about making a closed off area in my shed with a heat pad to help. I’ve been letting them into my house by blocking off the kitchen so they can’t wander around too much but I can’t leave them there unattended. If I didn’t already have 6 formerly stray cats I could “adopt” them, but 13 cats in this little house would drive us all crazy lol! (never mind the fact I’d have to dedicate an entire room for the litter boxes.)

They’re still fairly small, so I have a bit of time to figure things out and hopefully find homes for them.

I’ve kept mine from 2012 alive just to check if some comments reappeared (which did on a few occasions) but aside from checking on it once or twice a month I haven’t used reddit since the the blackout.

I did alter my profile to say “Went to lemmy” though. I should delete it soon however, I doubt any more comments will pop back up after all this time.

I’d recommend a smaller community to help spread the load. I originally signed up on .world but they were having some growing pains (And a disgruntled idiot ddosing them) so I moved to .ca which helped tremendously.

I try to stay away from buying nestle stuff, but it’s nearly impossible… they have their mitts in everything, even cat food. (Purina) They have over 2000 brands ffs. www.nestle.com/brands

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m in Canada, and while there are some options they’re usually more expensive or harder to find. I live nearly 50 km (30 miles) from the nearest city and the few local stores here have extremely limited selections which means I have to drive 100km (60 miles) round trip just to avoid giving nestle any of my money.

Usually it means a once a month road trip to stock up on stuff, but we still have to break down and bite the bullet every now and then when we run out unexpectedly.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

The closest Costco to me is about an hour and fifteen minutes away, so that doesn’t work out well. Still, it’s a better option for those that can.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Lol no problem, I know what you’re saying. It’s like the entire world revolves around nickel and diming people to death. I’m thankful it’s not as bad in my area as it is in some places but nowhere is safe. I think something has to break sooner or later, and it’s not going to be pretty when it does.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Me too. My phone is 10 years old, my microwave is 40 yrs old, my car is 24, my home theater amp is 25.

I take pride in taking care of my stuff and making it last as long as possible. It’s something I got from my grandmother who wouldn’t let anything go to waste. (She was a refugee from ww2, so she knew a thing or two about making things last and making due.) Obviously not everything can last that long, but if you get good quality things chances are it’ll be around a lot longer than if you just buy cheap or flashy stuff.
