I’m hearing a lot of good things about Bitwarden, especially from the Linux crowd.

What I am curious about though is what’s in your opinion wrong with 1password - a solution I’m currently using too.

I started using 1pass after the audit by my former company’s itsec team. Just curious if there are some downsides (apart from the price) I’m not aware of.

Nothing like kids romanticizing the idea of army and war from the comfort of their keyboards.

Each time battle net launcher opens,it displays a popup banner for cosmetics, warcraft stuff, overwatch stuff etc. They get free ads in your eyeballs.

No way they will let it go. It will be steam -> battle.net -> game

How exactly will anyone run Flash content in 2023?

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t care how the background is generated, if the making algorithm can’t understand which part is my head, which is the headphones and which is the headrest on my chair. Unless I use green screen, the auto detect for the background is too inaccurate do use any background filters.

How about AI-ing that instead?

Love Plex Amp for it’s integration with my Plex server, but the fact it does not read star ratings in ID3 tags really hurts.

Wikipedia and Archive.org are two of the most fantastic projects in existence. Their contributions to humanity rival NASA imho.

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

Not sure about these. Archive.org is a depository of free music, videos, books, articles, games and many other cultural artifacts at risk of getting lost to time. One of their coolest projects is the Wayback Machine which backs up pretty much entire Internet. Want to see what first version of Amazon looked like, or browse an obscure geocities page no longer available? Yup, they most likely have it backed up.

I agree. on any other server it would already be questionable, but lemmy.world suggests international appeal. The default news should be world news, with each country heading their own channel.

DeArrow is a misguided effort. Without it you can identify spammy content at a glance. Without it it’s like all gossip tabloids were sold with The New Yorker cover.

Great UI element for those who need it. If love to have a toggle to disable them, too!

🤯 thank you!!!

QubaXR,

Love the idea, but just to be the devil’s advocate, I think it will just mask garbage videos. Currently, the clickbait thumbnails and titles are an indicator to blacklist a channel, without having to waste time watching it.

A group of four female athletes are in various states of repose after completing a relay event at the Olympics. Three are looking toward the upper right at something offscreen; the woman on the left has anxious tears in her eyes. The fourth young woman is facing the woman on the left who is crying and comforting her. All are...

Don’t ever quit.

Screw that. Quitting is healthy, quitting is good. Nothing worse than digging yourself deeper and deeper based on sunk cost fallacy.

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone? (kbin.social)

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely. Been doing that since my first Nexus phone. Without it, I find the mobile keyboard extremely unwieldy.

Trading one asshole billionaire for another is a losing game. The only losers are users of these services.

It’s like two giant Mecha robots fighting while a crowd of fans of one or the other are cheering on the ground and being squished.

Came here to say just that. Used to love fast food, sodas and candy in large amounts too. Then went to a conference and watched a video of myself giving a talk there afterwards. I hated looking like that.

Thus begun my journey of weight loss. 45kg later I can genuinely say that while some part of my brain still asks for garbage food, I genuinely enjoy eating healthy. My entire taste palette changed, too - and I can now taste flavors that were unknown to me due to overdependence on salt and sugar.

Daily walk/jog is a highlight of the day, and whenever I feel like eating garbage foods again, I just have to think about how it makes me feel not just after - just an hour, or two or a day later.

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

Matter of luck really. I just bought a new phone last week and today it’s discounted by $140.

I didn’t expect anything but plastic garbage and Alexa devices to be discounted, tbh.

I waited for Thunderbird to get good for so long, I ended migrating to emClient… Looks great, but I don’t think I feel like resetting all my devices and systems again

It takes a while. A long while. But once you develop a habit, a day will feel empty without your routine exercise, and doing it will feel real good.

The important thing is to find what works for you and do that. I bounced off many gym programs and could not keep up with them. Then I hurt my leg and decided to talk to a physical therapist. He developed a program for me that’s easy to stick to, yet challenging enough.

Not everyone’s into jogging and lifting. Look and ask around. Good luck!

It’s a call between what’s ethically good (not supporting companies with track record of Blizzard’s employee abuse/coverups) and between compromising your morals for a really fun game.

Not gonna lie, I decided to play this one and I’m having a blast. I enjoyed all entries in the series and didn’t mind D3 at all, but I feel like if you wanted to make a good Diablo in 2023, D4 is what success looks like.

QubaXR,

And I’ll scream and spit curses at you if the tip is any lower than 25%

Is this a reported news, or a speculation? Really curious, before I start going around, repeating it.

I was planning to start a petition post, but wasn’t sure where would be the right place to post it.

Edit: Someone did already! lemmy.world/post/1125293

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.

In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

Average person does not understand why privacy is important. They were lucky enough not to (yet) experience repression, censorship or surveillance and often throw banal one liners like I’ve got nothing to hide.

It’s only once you lived a while with someone (person or an institution) watching your every step you realize how it definitely changes you. You decide not to state your opinion, not to raise your hand, not to make the choice you would of you were truly free.

Same goes for welcoming your data against you… But you’re on fediverse. I’m packing to the choir here.

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

Yes I do. What I am looking for is federated/web3 replacements for Instagram, and some kind of well encrypted, decentralized messenger app

YSK: Signal is a great secure private messenger app comparable to others on the market. (restoreprivacy.com)

“When you use Signal, your data is stored in encrypted form on your devices. The only information that is stored on the Signal servers for each account is the phone number you registered with, the date and time you joined the service, and the date you last logged on.”...

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

I love Signal, but was unable to convince enough of my network to migrate. They are mostly stuck using Meta’s spyware (Instagram and Whatsapp). In the end, Telegram seemed like a good mid-way for enough of my friends and peers.

QubaXR,
@QubaXR@lemmy.world avatar

With much smaller user base, one can actually get their posts/replies seen. Big difference.

For me it was the fact I kept mistyping the url as lm instead of .ml You know, LeMmy dot LM After nth time making this mistake, I decided to switch to something easier to remember.

It’s not anything new and nothing “all of a sudden”, unfortunately. Facebook, Tumbler, Google - all done stuff like that before. Even for Reddit this is not the first protest blackout and not the first time they treat users and mods like garbage.

It simply is now happening to the apps and services you (and I) use daily, so it hits closer home.

All modern stairs are built on the same terrible foundation: Attract users, no matter how much money you lose. Once you feel strong, introduce fees, ads, hike the prices and try to regulate years of financial loss.

Happened like clockwork, and companies going public are a clear sign it’s just around the corner. (Kind of like any free mobile app will ask you for a 5 star review, just before introducing monetization schemes)

I’ve been periodically installing and uninstalling it on my phone for the past 10 days. Never managed to launch it. Crashes after a second or two every time.
