Agreed on period variation. I remember my teacher telling everyone women didn’t lose more than a teaspoon of blood over the course of a period and I was so confused because I could be sitting over the toilet and losing a teaspoon’s worth in 2 minutes. But no, apparently I was misjudging the amount.
I felt vindicated when I later bought a mooncup and it would fill up in an hour 😆
Inside Gaza, cut off from the world by a near total blockade, Israeli airstrikes have decimated entire neighborhoods, leveling homes, schools and mosques. CNN drone footage from Monday showed the level of destruction across parts of the strip, with whole streets flattened in the al-Rimal neighborhood in Gaza City and a row of...
The reason for Android's Notification system being better than iOS, is solely due to the ability to turn off individual aspects of an application's notifications.
Google, the poor multi-billion dollar scrappy startup that maintains Android, made a payment app that has one notification setting, "Google Pay". So all the ads, promotions, everything.
3rd party apps like PhonePe & Paytm have a better system.
I’m traveling with family this weekend in a touristy place and have been out in public in crowded areas. I am really shocked by the number of people who have loud, personal conversations on the phone in speaker mode. This ranges from walking down the sidewalk, to in line for washrooms, to seated restaurant dining....
I’m a buyer for a large food distributor, so my job is importing food from around the world. There is definitely a lot of worrying conversation at work everyday. So many crop failures and shortages. I think a lot of people are oblivious to these things, they just see the price of tomatoes go up and think we’re being greedy when actually it’s because whole crops have failed.
I think it should always be optional. We don’t have to have our TVs on 25/7. I’m certainly no tinfoil hat wearer but I don’t think the government should have access to our private spaces at all times unless we consent to it.
In some countries they are also used for missing people, train crashes, terrorist attacks, pandemic quarantine rule changes. I’m not opposed to getting this information, but I am opposed to it not being optional.
And I have zero trust in our current government and could absolutely see it being misused down the line. But, for now, they can be turned off here.
Yes it could just be the perception. In American films and TV everyone seems to have a lawyer, there’s the whole “lawyer up” reddit meme and I’ve been given so much advice on reddit about things I should/shouldn’t do to avoid getting sued (like sweeping the pavement outside my house! This seems to come up so often). The only time I know of people using solicitors here regularly are to buy houses and to finalise divorce.
What is there to disagree with? Women talking about assault and harassment? Yes, let’s go back to the good old days when we all pretended rape was fine or didn’t happen…
Seems like the feeds are more active and I’m not hitting things with 3 upvotes 20 minutes into my scroll. Did Connect change something, did Lemmy or are we just seeing some population increase from Boost?
Yeah, both my boomer parents 100% have anxiety with periods of uncontrollable panic attacks, but they refuse to acknowledge this is the case. There is definitely a stigma when talking about mental health for their generation.
The video is a very short news item about FEMA testing the emergency alert system this week, but that’s not what I thought people would enjoy. It’s the comments - people are going batshit insane with every conspiracy theory you can think of (and more that you never would).
I suppose there is fear of it being abused (think 1984 telescreens you’re unable to turn off)? There was a test recently here in the UK and we had the same fears discussed. The noise was pretty awful so I just turned it off, but maybe people don’t realise you can disable it.
My present theory is that dreaming is an active, tho unconscious, deed. So step 1 is to make the unconscious, conscious. And then step 2 is to stop dreaming....
If I become aware I’m in a dream and want it to end, I usually try to focus on the feeling of my body in bed. Once I become conscious of my physical body it’s basically impossible to stay in the dream.
In another thread, I read a user’s comment about how the lemmy experience has got progressively worse over the past few months, with a lot more trash content making it to their front page....
I have one car, it’s 20 years old and I’ve had it since 2009. Sometimes I look around and think, maybe it’s time to get one not covered in scratches with a dent in the back? But then I see posts like this and feel incredibly grateful this little banger has kept me on the road for so long.
You don’t have to socialise with co-workers, but if you don’t have many friends it’s a good start. Interacting with other people, improving your social skills, learning and sharing from/with others all help you grow as a human and find your place in the world.
I agree with you, I’ve had 2 Pixels and they just work. I had a Galaxy and it was always crashing and doing weird things if you used a different launcher.
I’m part of a veg co-op so get amazing, locally grown veg pretty cheap. So I’m eating very seasonally lately and it’s nice. Last week was an aubergine glut so I made bans ganoush. This week we get squashes for the first time this year, I’m excited!
Some people will do that regardless, but I would keep all of my phones for longer if the batteries were easily changeable and they didn’t eventually grind to a halt. I loved my Pixel 3a and would still be using it today if I could.
I feel like you must be lucky. My parents had a Dualit intending to never need to buy another toaster, but it was so often away being repaired they had to buy a cheap one for the interim. We had 2 Dualits at work and same problem. One of them has been permanently trashed now. They also take SO LONG to toast?!
I got a mid-range Kenwood 4 years ago and it’s going strong.
Feels like a dumb question, but I haven’t ever worn a pair of boots that didn’t hurt in some way. Is this just a feature of boots, or am I doing something wrong?
Yeah, I have some really comfy walking boots (by a brand called Vegetarian Shoes, I think they’re made in Italy) and a pair of everyday boots by Superga which are also really comfy. You’ll usually need to break boots in - maybe wear them around the house a bit with some thick socks on whilst they get used to your feet.
I know they allow scam adverts because it’s easy money, but why aren’t they held responsible for facilitating obvious scams? You open Edge, there’s 3 “Earn money quick” adverts. On Instagram, every 5 ads, one is a scam.
