I am very typical earthling. I like earth food and earth drink and earth sports and earth media. Im all about earth things because I am so typical and earthling. so typical as to be very boring and not worth investigating or looking into because I am definately from earth.

yeah I don't see why the ai would want a pyramid

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

oof that hurts. Im not wild about flat earthers or alien conspiracy or such but would I give up good scifi shows to not have that part of humanity. that would be a high price indeed.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

you know I have switched jobs to make more money and have even told the company that at exit interviews.

inflation had doubled the cost of most things. If he priced it originally in early 2022 or earlier this is not even keeping pace.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I have to say this is a great advent calendar. Many end up with things that either are consumed or are useless later but all these are nice on their own but also just provide you pieces for later projects.

which makes their name ironic. What happens to free users that already are above 50?

I had a professor who when talking about a PhD would talk about the need for breath and depth. Im a generalist and I find I have as much depth as I need to get things done. Then I move on to another hole.

for insurance purposes it was the sun that killed him.

I have been unemployed in the past for over 6 months. I find it takes at least a month to even begin to gain traction and then its a slog. worst job in the world is looking for a job. I to hate having my savings drain away. I used to sub high school and that helped mitigate it a bit but that has become to annoying to apply to now.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Not I. My faintest memories are from 5 and by then it was typical of the season. likely my first reaciton would have been as a baby or toddler and way before I can recall.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I do have memories from the bizzard of 79 because I was young and once they got the sidewalks cleared I felt like I was in an xwing doing the trench run when walking down the block.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

im not that into it. Im sorta a nod and smile and enjoy how other folks are into it. I do like leaving little gifts for my condo neighbors but its gotten skimpier and skimpier as prices have been higher to where now they just get a tin of butter cookies. I would love to get back to where I was changing things up with chocolate or inexpensive wine. sigh.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I was going to say everything. I mean its not everything but if you don't know its always best to give them a try if the price difference is good and if you don't like it then thats one of the few things not to get. Especially now. generics used to be pretty meh but man now they are sometimes better. Oh man dominicks had this store brand chunky peanut butter that I have not been able to find an equal to since they closed.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

oh I always compare the ingredients just like price per unit. Im one of those folks who forgets to mention things like this so thanks.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Im not that bad but I do sorta consider it a puzzle game. Sorta a "fun" math activity to keep my brain active like doing suduko. Honestly I don't see a point at price per slice as you would just get really thinly sliced bread. Should be per ounce. Honestly bread is one of those things I spring for the xspenciv stuff in the bakery section or I will do one of the fancy brownberry type with oats and nuts or potato.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

ouch. don't tell you friend but the opening montage of idiocracy comes to mind.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

darn. I was hoping this was about taste as the jackfruit is still expensive and this can be grown anywhere.

Middle-aged and some what tongue tied (medical condition) anyone else in this situation, and go through with the procedure?

I’m a middle aged guy, who, a few years ago, was off handedly told by a dental hygienist while getting my teeth cleaned, that I was tongue tied. I’ve had a flap of skin under my tongue which holds it down, it isn’t severe, but it does restrict my tongues mobility. For instance, I can’t really stick my tongue out very far...

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I have nothing useful to say but thank you for educating me that this is a real thing and not just a colloquialism.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I feel for you here. I think of myself as left of center but it is funny how much one side or the other treats the center like the hardest core of the other end. Its funny because I way back when I had started at a catholic college where I seemed waaayyy left but then transfered to the state school where I seemed centerist or at best kinda left and if you compared me to the school population then right of center. I did find the liberal state school seemed to have more of self awareness that the environment was skewed left whereas the catholic institution viewed itself as more center.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Im curious what you are politically conservative on? I don't see religious freedom as being conservative nowadays. Like respecting tst stuff. maybe the second amendment but like bernie is pretty good with that. honestly the supreme court stacking I only hear from an extreme side. EDITED - see if Im fast enough to sneak this in. How the heck does one even register for a party in chicago? I mean im not going to but is that even a thing?

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Ah. An actual conservative like from the pre 80's. I keep telling folks that conservatives used to be quite different.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yup. I played for years with a group that grew out of a college group and as far as I know they still play (unfortunately I had to stop)

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

30's start to notice you can't do stuff you used to be able to do along with aches and pains but they are still once in awhile. 40's they are no longer once in awhile. 50's you are sorta used to them and its just another part of life is pain.

HubertManne,

I think ill sit at the foot of the stairs.

HubertManne,

I don't use office software that much. I used to though. When I used msoffice a lot open office seemed cumbersone. now that I don't use it much its msoffice that seems cumbersome.

yeah me2 and im not at the happiest point in my life but I generally try to enjoy life.

Why North America zoning and building codes mean developers can't build nice family friendly "missing middle" housing/apartments (www.youtube.com)

We need to make our cities and towns more family friendly. This is called the “missing middle” in housing, and it’s why in north america all we see are either large condo towers or single family homes, which also drives our urban sprawl problems....

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

three bedrooms exist but are way costly compared to one or two bedrooms such that people might as well buy a detached house. Then also a condo will have much less general space. basements, attics, yards, and garages mean that even a rinky little two bedroom house will have much more space than a four bedroom condo.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

That increase is square footage with additions bedrooms is strange and seems a bit limited. I feel they are working under the theory all bedrooms have to have windows. We have one bedroom cooridoor condos that only have windows in the living space and the bedroom is windowless. The tree bedroom could easily have two on the left with a bathroom between them but one would be windowless and then the square footage would not need to be blown up.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Not in chicago. Very common to have a bedroom that is almost right in the middle of the condo. door to the rest of the condo but not outside. Maybe they get away on some technicality bit its a common thing I have seen. It allows them to do these thing long condos in the high rises

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah. they advertise it as a bedroom but I would not be surprised if the paperwork did something like you say. Many of the traditional things have been being slanted for decades. what is called a studio nowadays would be called an efficiency when I was young.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah thats pretty much how illinois did it. the grow there is restricted to people buying a medical use license so they get the monies either way.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

As someone who does not know the drama. Why would these people being sacked be a condition of his?

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Wow! My wife was miffed that Eccleston just did the one season as he was her favorite. Tenant was actually mine. Im sorta not surprised given some of the stuff you would hear around cons even in the olden days.

now metas got access to all the porns.

What is a small .EPUB reader that is easy to install for my small Puppy remaster?

My question is basically the title. I’m making my own Puppy Linux remaster and it already has a .PDF reader for it that is very small. I think it’s called Evince? It has a native GTK UI and starts in a second, uses very little RAM and CPU. Now I need a .EPUB reader. I’ve seen a couple different .EPUB reader apps out there...

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

puppy is really an underappreciated distro.

HubertManne,

In my experience nice christians are a minority in their group while dickish atheists are a minority in that group (although online a very loud minority). Then even nice christians very often are still not very accepting of other ways or people following them.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yup and now ukraine soldiers will never surrender and blow up a grenade on themselves to get one more more additional of them instead of surrendering. This is just going to cost russia more.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I mean personally I would fix things that are broken first. The last thing I might want to edit is anything nerve related and even then problems before enhancements. Im pretty happy with my intellect level and could not see messing with that unless it clearly was needed in the sense that I fell below one standard deviation of average intellect.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Oh wow. I have a similar income tax process.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

brainless physical activity is so much easier than mental. So the important cleaning tasks like organizing get thrown to the side for dishes, clothes, vaccuming, etc

grand caravan. minivans already start as the most versatile vehicle around. Able to haul cargo and people equally well while having mileage that only gets beat by small cars. Basically it was honda or toyota that had the rear folding seat but dodges flip and fold brought it to a new level and they were good about having the captains chairs be comfortable. This is actually the main reason we have a minivan. It is the easiest vehicle to get in and out of for the driver and front row passenger. The captains chairs are at perfect but height for a human and most people don't really have to climb up into them or overly drop into them. Seriously if you ever see an occupational therapy handout for getting in and out of a vehicle, look at the pictures, they almost always use a minivan. Then dodge did the same thing with the roof rack. can fold it in for better mileage and fold them out when needed rather than having to retrieve them from sitting in the garage. Unfortunately they messed up the pacifica in that its captains chairs are less comfortable (and its more expensive and for some reason they took out the ability to vent open the rear window which was another nice thing.)

If I can hold off then yeah like some others I would want to wait for a record breaking lottery and then get the numbers for the non record breaking one and then tell me how a technology that would be most beneficial for the planet while supplying mankind with all the energy it wants and I would sit on the last question.

More than 10,000 research papers were retracted in 2023 (www.nature.com)

The number of retractions issued for research articles in 2023 has passed 10,000 — smashing annual records — as publishers struggle to clean up a slew of sham papers and peer-review fraud. Among large research-producing nations, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Russia and China have the highest retraction rates over the past two...

I would love a science news resource that would only publish papers about reproduced studies from a different lab than the original.
