ColeSloth,

Ftfy: why aren’t phones made with jacks?

ColeSloth,

That won’t give good quality because the phone sending the signal to the DAC is sending a poor quality signal. Sending a poor quality signal to a high quality DAC won’t give you good audio.

However, all OP needs is just going to be a usb-c to 3.5mm audio jack to plug his headphones into. It will have pinouts for analog signal within the USB-C (USB c standard is specd to include analog stereo).

The issue still remains that most phones have a lower quality DAC. Ones that are only good enough to provide good quality for bluetooth devices. The last phone line I know of that had a really good DAC built in there the LG V series phones (v20, v30, v40, v50).

ColeSloth,

I haven’t thought to try recalibration, since it felt so mechanical, but I noticed under a game I was playing, it felt totally normal, which surprised the heck out of me, so it seems it may somehow be something that can be software adjusted. I’ll give it a shot.

As far as taking it apart, I’m more than comfortable doing that and it was going to be my plan before doing an rma and not having it for a couple weeks. I just came here to ask about it first because I was curious about if it was a common issue that’s cropped up.

ColeSloth,

Nerd jealous of the jock that brings more money into the college.

ColeSloth,

Never played and tested out at college level for reading in 5th grade. I’m just not bitter or delusional about “for profit” colleges paying the people who make them the most, the most money. Look at the Florida Gators. They spend like $12 million a year on coaching for a program that gets $40 million in profits to the school. No professor is going to bring in that. No professor is going to help a college that much. A profitable sports team brings in more money for a college than anyone else.

ColeSloth,

It’s been about 30 years, but didn’t he get himself a nice dumb girlfriend cat? Maybe he was one of the idiots on his cat planet and now he’s just happier not being low tier.

Steam Deck keeps forgetting my SD card is already formatted and has games

Basically the title. Sometimes I turn on the deck and the SD card icon is in the top bar, it shows it’s connected but doesn’t see any games on it and prompts me to format (and also shows it only has 30mb of space). Rebooting and/or removing and reinserting the SD card seems to fix it until the next time. I’m really not...

ColeSloth,

You should already have this solved by logic. You swapped steam decks and it’s still doing this, and you’ve seen virtually no one ever complain about this with their steam decks.

It’s the card. If you haven’t already, I would give reformatting it a try. If it ever does it again after that, throw it away.

ColeSloth,

It’s what can be done only with a private company and some decent people in charge. Once you go public your company loses its soul.

ColeSloth,

In the case of fortnite, this isn’t really true. The issue of fortnite is the anti cheat system is not designed to play nice with Linux and allowing Linux without having the anti cheat on point would lead to players getting mad at cheaters and the collapse of fortnite. It’s happened to several games in the past that couldn’t prevent people from cheating.

ColeSloth,

I don’t specifically mean games that used anti cheats that ran on Linux. I just mean games that couldn’t keep from too many people cheating and it ruining the online aspect of a game. A couple different Diablo games come to mind. COD:Warzone got pummeled for a while. Fall Guys had a very rough season 1.

ColeSloth,

After like 5 tries and squinting and using my finger to block lines as I went along, I managed to verify for myself that it does in fact have the proper amount of lines.

ColeSloth,

Wow. You really had to zoom in for that one. +2 to the artist for such attention to detail.

ColeSloth,

I had t9 on lock back in the day. Write and send a message without having to look at my phone at all. Sure, there was no internet on there, but that tiny Nokia would stay charged for like 5 days and survive a 20 foot drop on cement without a case.

Fun fact: they would NOT survive being dropped into a gallon of polyurethane floor finish :-(

ColeSloth,

That looks like being poo-r with no honeys. Guess I’ll have to bounce and keep on the grind.

ColeSloth,

So 2 cartoons that are by the same people. So basically a single source.

Indian food is probably given less shit in the states than most other foods. Mainly just the smell it leaves permeating through everything.

British food is tasteless trash. Mexican food makes you shit your pants. Chinese food is eating cats and dogs. Thai will burn your butthole to death. German food is angry and has sauerkraut. Canada just has syrup on everything. Japan is fish they won’t cook. Irish is all potatoes and sheep belly. Indian is stinky and smells forever.
Americans deep fry everything.

We’re an equal opportunity country. We’ll talk shit on everyone.

ColeSloth,

I’m an exceptional nut job from the Midwest, myself. I’m immune to spicy shits and the Mexicans I know won’t eat my hot sauces and think I’m crazy. I’ve seen people on the internet eat hotter stuff than me and enjoy it, but I’ve never met someone in real life that does.

As near as I can figure I just like spicy flavors and I’m not as sensitive to capsaicin as normal people are, because it doesn’t cause me pain like it seems to do to anyone else. Southern Thai food tastes pretty good after I add a splash of mad dog 357 gold edition to it.

ColeSloth,

Half bird, at least.

It comes with downsides too, though. If I cook for other people, I have to make it bland and add my hotness afterwards. That one took a while to figure out because as soon as I could taste any spiciness, everyone else would moan and complain.

Then I can’t just buy some $5 sauce from a grocery store if I want hot sauce. I have to order stuff that’s generally north of $20 a bottle. Also, a lot of grocery stores don’t keep habaneros year round.

ColeSloth,

I managed to sell my 512gb to a guy who found himself off work from a back injury and wanted some immediate gratification on a purchase instead of waiting on an order.

So I threw an extra $180 in to get the 1TB oled ordered.

Didn’t actually think I’d end up getting my old one sold for what I was asking, but I was going to be happy keeping my 512 or happy spending a max out of pocket $180 more for the oled benefits.

Either way I was going to be content.

ColeSloth,

I wanted to keep with the anti glare screen no matter what. I had decided the most I’d spend to get the benefits of the oled was going to be about $175. So if I could sell my 512 for enough to spend another $175 for the oled, I’d be happy. If it wouldn’t sell for a high enough price to do that, I’d be happy keeping my LCD one. Either way I had a steam deck that I’d be enjoying.

Decide how much extra you’d be willing to pay for the minor upgrades and be happy either way.

I’ll probably never use a 90 hz refresh rate on the SD. Most of the games I run at 40 anyhow. I also haven’t ever had to play on max brightness and don’t find the colors of the lcd screen bother me, so the oled benefits are pretty minor for me. 6e wifi is well beyond the internet ill have for a long time, so thats irrelevant to me. What I do like is the bigger battery and more efficient APU that keeps the SD oled quieter and having the 1TB ssd without having to spend an extra $80 to order a 1TB ssd and install it myself.

Perks worth some money to me, but not a whole lot of money to me.

ColeSloth, (edited )

I wonder if it will work with the fake Wasabi that is all over outside of Japan, that’s horseradish based. The chemical of the “spicy” part is the same, I believe. But getting real Wasabi anywhere in the states is expensive and has a shorter shelf life.

*Horseradish doesn’t have any. So you’ll have a harder time getting the 6-MSITC, but im sure they’ll quickly be a supplement to buy.

ColeSloth,

Binding of isaac rebirth. Fun Lil game. I got gnawed leaf and midas touch on one go. Easiest thing ever. Just stand there, max out coins, and everything that touches me dies. Funny as shit.

ColeSloth,

TDS is pretty meaningless unless you know what most of those solids are. Lead pipes will give you a high TDS, you know.

ColeSloth,

Ever work on electronics?

I use an apk called “Electrodoc” and it identifies and helps you figure out what all you need for all sorts of transistors and capacitors and smd’s and inductors and all that sorts of crap. Has loads of info and pictures and calculations you can punch in for stuff. Super handy.

ColeSloth,

Cool. Really gives good info repairing boards.

ColeSloth,

Lol.Everyone thinks you’re dumb.

ColeSloth,

My comments usually get voted on!

ColeSloth,

Small highlight reel of the Lil speed demon.

ColeSloth,

Pretty short!? That ball ass dude was only 5’ 3". He was damn near a foot and a half under a lot of his colleagues. He was quick as hell and new how to pass for the assist.

ColeSloth,

*Janikowski. You mistyped and left out the “i”.

My favorite NFL kicker. He absolutely had the leg to break the NFL record for farthest field goal for a while, but the few chances in a game he was given to do it, he didn’t quite manage. Still makes me sad to this day.

Guy went 18 years as an NFL kicker. That’s crazy! The average career for a kicker is only 5 years. Not the longest career kicker (Morten Anderson with an ungodly 25 seasons) but still much longer than most.

ColeSloth,

Meh. He is a bit taller than the norm at 6’ 5" for a 100m sprinter, but for over the past 50 years every single 100m gold medalist has been 6’ to 6 3".

So really, he’s only 2" taller than most champions.

ColeSloth,

Played for quite a while, too.

ColeSloth,

It’s because the commercial looked very “more than brother and sister” during the commercial. It was pretty abnormal behavior.

ColeSloth,

SNL.

ColeSloth,

No it wouldn’t. The self cleaning sifter boxes need clumping litter.

ColeSloth,

It’s not even in a garden.

ColeSloth,

Are you referring to muscle soreness? Or does something feel actually messed up?

ColeSloth,

The proprietary charger is my only real negative about it. If not for that, I would take a slimmer version, like the old one over the bigger battery, but since I don’t have as much access to my proprietary charger like I do with USB c all over the place I’m good with the bigger battery.

ColeSloth,

At the cost of 50 years worth of current addicts smoking more.

ColeSloth,

I doubt it. I think for most smokers, one cigarette does them for a while. I don’t see anyone stopping at half a cigarette, so I’d guess it would only get smokers used to taking more nicotine in at a time.

ColeSloth,

Like I said. Mainly because if someone lights up, they’ll smoke the whole cigarette. Not half. But if they didn’t get enough nicotine from one, instead of not smoking again for a couple hours, they may smoke again after just 45 minutes or so. Or even start chain smoking.

ColeSloth,

Smoking more IS the adjustment. Take some nicotine away, they’ll crave more nicotine.

ColeSloth,

And they’ll smoke more in order to get the exposure they’re used to.

ColeSloth,

You don’t really know how an addiction works, do you? Nevermind that being a question for you to answer. I suppose I already know you don’t.

ColeSloth,

You seem to think the people having low nicotine cigarettes forced on them want to quit smoking.

And no. I’m not saying there is no other direction. Upping the age every year would work. Upping the prices would work, but is a ln asshole move for a government to make, banning cigarettes would work. Lowering nicotine in cigarettes is what wouldn’t work. It’s straight up something that would make the smoking related health issues of an entire country worse instead of better.

ColeSloth,

They aren’t being used wrong. It’s just that no one will say it’s OK to use them that way for liability purposes for when someone inevitably screws it up or already has too much wax. It also depends on what type of wax your ears make (people have different kinds. Wet, dry, or somewhere in between)

I’ve used them for decades “the wrong way” and checked my ear canal with a little bluetooth camera thing made for ears. My canal and eardrums are immaculate, so it happens to work great for me.

Cotton swabs were invented in the 1920s for the purpose of ear cleaning. They were marketed as such until around 1980 when the market became worried about lawsuits from people stabbing their ear drums or people with lots of wet wax built up already in their ears compacting it towards the ear drum instead of it getting cleaned out.
