I have a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 8GB of RAM, and I’m looking for a bit more powerful solution that would have similar power consumption. I would like to host a Minecraft server, but chunks take too long to generate. Do you have any recommendations?
In stark contrast to Europe, which enjoyed an abundance of high-quality iron, Japan’s geographical limitations meant that the availability of good iron ore was scarce. Japanese bladesmiths had to work with whatever they could find, which was often of inferior quality. Despite these challenges, the Japanese developed a process...
There is a link to their own F-Droid repo, also it is in Izzys repo iirc. Beta version works just fine imo, but I prefer öffi and use transportr only sonetimes when I’m in a new city

Hello! I was looking for some foss music player for android, and my search engine proposed me this article: androidfoss.com/open-source-music-players/...
So I’m an Arch user since 2013 and I don’t think I’m toxic. I am not really offended by this post but a bit worried. Why this hate against Arch (users)? I use Arch, btw is a meme that may has some truth, but like every good meme it is exaggerated. Arch users may have some pride in tunning Arch but most of the time they’re (in my expierence) helpful and inclusive. The OS itself fits right to my expectations: community driven, pragmatic, highly customizable. And I think the community is doing a lot for the overall Linux community with the Arch Wiki and for the Arch-based family with the AUR.
Edit: I didn’t seek help in the Arch fotum myself but read some threads there. Haven’t encountered any bm there.
I’m a conservative. I don’t mind the liberal stuff here. It’s good to learn the other side, but I don’t want a liberal echo chamber. I’d like to be more politically balanced in the fediverse. Is there any way I can do that?
The idea that government intervention is bad puzzles me every time I encounter it. Government in a democracy should be “the people” and intervention could protect you in so many cases. Assuming you’re from the US, from an outside perspective your job ‘market’ is utterly fucked. Because of cuts to the welfare system (which have been marketed with somewhat racist propaganda, see welfare queens), most people are forced to take highly unregulated, low-paying jobs (yes, plural) while rich people and big companies earn more and more. The government could intervene and make it harder for companies to exploit workers the way they’re doing it right now.
Look at how it was 60 years ago. Single income, blue collar households could afford houses. Now double income academic households can’t. And all that despite the huge technological progress we made. We need so much less manual labor than in the 1960s. Everything should be easier. For everyone.
I’ve come to realize that a lot of foss android apps are pretty outdated and usually abandoned. Is that even safe to use? Like even the fdroid archive repository, are those safe to use? I’m still rather new to the foss world, but in my mind it seems a very outdated app is probably not safe or am I missing something here?
Free speech does not mean that you can say anything. You can’t break the rights of others by using your own rights. For example, racial slurs violate human rights of those targeted by them.
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
It occurred to me that Nazi ideology was entrenched in the German people from as early as the 1920s and officially since 1933 to 1945. You’d think that such a systemic worldview would be difficult to eradicate but it would seem Nazism was quickly removed after the Allies and Russians conquered them....
Commonly primes are defined as natural numbers greater than 1 that have only trivial divisors. Your definition kinda works, but 1 can be infinitely many prime factors since every number has 1^n with n ∈ ℕ as a prime factor. And your definition is kinda misleading when generalising primes.
It is no new number, though you can add infinitely many ones to the prime factorisation if you want to. In general we don’t append 1 to the prime factorisation because it is trivial.
In commutative Algebra, a unitary commutative ring can have multiple units (in the multiplicative group of the reals only 1 is a unit, x*1=x, in this ring you have several “ones”). There are elemrnts in these rings which we call prime, because their prime factorisation only contains trivial prime factors, but of course all units of said ring are prime factors. Hence it is a bit quirky to define ordinary primes they way you did, it is not about the amount of prime factors, it is about their properties.
Edit: also important to know: (ℝ,×), the multiplicative goup of the reals, is a commutative, unitary ring, which happens to have only one unit, so our ordinary primes are a special case of the general prime elements.
You’re mostly right, i misremembered some stuff. My phone keyboard or my client were not capable of adding a small + to the R. With general prime elements I meant prime elements in a ring. But regarding 3.: Not all reducible elements are prime nor vice versa.
I’m using duolingo and am almost done with the first big section. It is so different compared to germanic and latin languages! But that was one of the reasons to learn it, so kinda expected. I’m also enjoying it, I don’t worry so much about reading and writing and focus on speaking and understanding, like a child would do. Reading and writing is the next step and I hope that it comes somewhat naturally this way.
So I’m very new to linux gaming. I swapped like last month and I’ve really been enjoying how well everything I’ve tried on Steam just works these days....
Have you installed Wine? I mean not in Lutris, but actual Wine in Pop!_OS. Then you can just double click the setup.exe like you’re in windows, install it where you want and then add it to lutris by adding a game manually.
That’s my prefered way of installing any windows program an most of the time it works.
I’ve installed arch Linux and liked it, but lfs and Gentoo would be too time consuming compiling everything and not doing anything during and after install. Are there any distros like arch that don’t have me compiling everything?
Assuming your goal is to gain knowledge about operating systems
Try arch but without kde, gnome, xfce, lxqt… make your own DE, based on a WM of your choice. That way you’ll gain lods of knowledge about how an OS interacts with the user and which applications do what.
After that, you would have to go for LFS or Tannenbaums Modern Operating Systems
I really enjoy archlinux so I was thinking on downloading garuda gaming but I’m unsure if that’s the way to go. What distro do you guys use? Have you encontered many problems with it?
There are a lot of GOP-controller legislatures in the USA pushing through so-called “child protection” laws, but there’s a toll in the form of impacting people’s rights and data privacy. Most of these bills involve requiring adults to upload a copy of their photo ID.
I disagree. I could literally put some porn in this very comment. So the fediverse needs a porn barrier, and every file hoster, we can’t allow TOR, there is porn, and illegal porn as well. So please show us your id before entering TOR, pls.
It is an authoritarian move. It is undermining privacy. It is censoring the web.
It is parents and maybe schools responsabilty to teach kids how to interact with media, that porn exists and is not an actual representation of sex, and to restrict their access to pornography or media in general.
Furthermore, on planet earth, there are no perfect democracies, and the democratic system of the USA is flawed to a degree where it is at least questionable if your leaders are elected democratically.

TL;DR: Tiny differences in input become huge differences in output in a chaotic system
You’re missing a “can” there. Tiny differences in input can become huge differences in output in a chaotic system. (Infinitely) many chaotic systems are structurally stable. For example consider systems that have the Anosov property.

There already dumps of all reddit posts, but uploading them to lemmy would be really bad. Tons of karma farmer bs, countless repost of the 100 most prolific memes, so much porn… and i haven’t even started with the massive burden that would hit the federation, hundreds of Terrabytes that need to be stored sonewhere…
In maths, we are excited about new things even if they seem to have absolutely no practical value or application. Sometimes, things become important later on, like prime numbers, which have been studied just for fun for centuries, and are now the backbone of encrypted communication.
So the only reason why this exciting is because nobody did it before.
