I watched Die Hard(I was born in the 2000s) for the first time, a few days ago. Awesome movie. I loved it. The action in the movie is nice.

BearPear,
@BearPear@lemmy.world avatar

The live action is good. I especially love the locations and the fight scenes.

BearPear,

Offtopic But it would be cool if you could create a sticky thread for people to discuss about movie they saw on weekend.

Yes

It is a good idea to post a TL;DW when posting a video link.

I have noticed that some users here don’t have time to watch videos. I think on most of the video links I share here, there are always users commenting that it is better to read an article than watching this video. To be honest, I don’t like all this complaining. It is kind of annoying....

I use flatpak and I actually like it. It is one of the ways I can get up to date packages on Debian.

Lol.🤣Wtf

My favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients:

I was looking for a place to share my two favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients, they are called Voyager Connect Boost for Lemmy and Moshidon for Mastodon (if you are really serious about privacy I recommend Connect still) (the official Mastodon app works fine though, you just can’t follow new hashtags from it)...

I really like Jerboa and Thunder.

Voyager is also great.

  1. Whatsapp is more popular.
  2. It has a lot of scammers. Especially crypto scammers.
  3. A little bit more difficult to use. There are so many features and it can kind lf get overwhelming.
  4. Messages are not end to end encrypted by default.

I have been using whatsapp for a long time. No onle has tried to scam me. Only received some spam or promotional materials.

Telegram is full of spammers. More than whatsapp. I

It doesn’t work automatically.

Go to a youtube video There is an option to view the transcript of the video near to the description in three dot menu Copy the transcription and paste it into chatgpt.

This is the best option. Love the app. But always remember to keep a backup of your tokens.

There is also ente.io authenticator app. It is available on fdroid. I think it supoorts cloud synchronisation as well.

If a lot of people don’t prefer immutable distributions, why are they made? I still don’t understand who this is for.

In case you're mad at yourself for closing your precious window with all the right tabs opened, note that Firefox allows to reopen recently closed windows (jlai.lu)

I generally have a “home” Firefox window with my most used tabs pinned. Sometimes I close it before another window, so I was frustrated to “lose” it and having to redo my pins. But recently I discovered this feature. Joy!

Switch to Kodi? does netflix work on Kodi?

BearPear,
@BearPear@lemmy.world avatar

Yes

But you can also use install LIBRELEC, which makes Kodi an operating system and you can install it on a rasberry pi and create your own streaming box.

I remember reading a comment on youtube on another video which mentioned that the download page is an IQ test to determine if a user is worthy of using Debian.

The downloader page has improved after the release of bookworm

BearPear,
@BearPear@lemmy.world avatar

But seriously, the website does need a revamp.

Look at the linux mint website, it is so clean, modern and easy to use.

Debian has gotten so much easier to install since the release of bookworm, so I wouldn’ t be surprised more new users show interest to try it out.

fixed typo

Yes. I agree.

What is good about having this ?

I just started using Linux... any great tips?

I just installed Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS (Cinnamon) on an empty laptop a couple days ago and have been experimenting a lot. I’m coming from being a Windows user since I was just a little kid playing old DOS games on my grandpa’s Win-98 PC back in around 2000. My daily driver is currently running Windows 10 but I am pretty adamant...

I also switched to linux after using windows for more than 10 years. I still havent gotten used to linux yet. There are still a lot of things I struggle with.

I kind of had difficulty setting up my printer, I tried to install the HP drivers but it did not install. But none of this installation was required because linux supports driverless printing throught the cups service which I wish I knew earlier.

Another is the use of vi text editor, I couldn’ t figure out how to even edit the file and save the file🤣.

Yeah many more examples. It is a bumpy ride. But it is all worth it.

Yes, I am using nano currently.

But i would like to learn Vi or vim

Your choice of browser matters — Google's Web DRM and the open internet

https://grafcube.codeberg.page/blog/2023/08/06/web-drm-api.html

I wrote this blog post to inform the people I know who aren't as tech savvy or otherwise don't put any thought into their choice of browser. Another goal is to help get enough awareness on the topic and make sure it fails.

I have been using Firefox since the release of Firefox 57 aka Firefox Quantum in 2017. I love the browser and most of sites run well in firefox. But there have been a few cases where I had to use a chromium based browser.

Firefox + Ublock origin is a great and awesome combo.

I also use Firefox on android. It is okay, but I sometimes feel it is slow at loading some sites. But it is not a big deal.

BearPear,
@BearPear@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, also Firefox is the only mainstream browser on Android that supports installing extensions.

How have I not stumbled across this earlier? It is cool.
