Highlights: Florida’s university system chancellor, responding to a push by Gov. Hii, I am trying to get into reading books but don’t know what to read. I like programming, tech, DIY stuff and science and would love to read about it....
I think you and I have somewhat different tastes in books. Most of my favorites don’t fall under programming, tech, DIY, and science, but some do. I’ve shared some below broken into your taste and other in case you want to venture out and try something new.
Programming, Tech, DIY, & Science
One, Two, Three…Infinity by George Gamov
An actual science book that fits with your interests! It’s a book that covers major theories/areas of physical science and math in an interesting way that a layperson can understand it. I learned more from this book that any formal training on the matter. The book starts off with defining counting and infinity.
Bigger, Leaner, Stronger by Michael Matthews
Provides education on weightlifting, from learning to design your own workouts & schedules to weightlifting diets. He goes into why certain workouts and diets work based on science. I have followed the recommendations in this book multiple times (separate episodes), and found them to be quite effective.

Mirrors: Stories of Almost Everyone by Eduardo Galeano
A book that covers the history of humanity with a sense of social justice and poetic style. It’s written in short poems rooted in actual history, but presents a perspective that is not typical of the common narrative.
A Field Guide to Earthlings by Ian Ford
This is a guide written by an autistic person for autistic people on understanding the neurotypical world. The premise is that autistic and neurotypical people are quite different from each other, to the point that they see each other as aliens. Because of this, it hits the reader differently depending on their neurotype. If the reader is autistic, it helps them understand the world and their social difficulties better. If the reader is neurotypical, I would imagine it’s an interesting perspective on human behavior, almost like reading a report on human behavior written by an alien.
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
This book is like a mental reset to me. It uses the innocence of a child to break down silly and unhelpful social matters to remind us what’s universally important.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
A fun science-fiction that, according to me, it’s main appeal is the style of writing. The author tells the story in a unique way that makes me laugh because it kind of says things in a way we think but rarely share with each other.
…the next pick to the people who saw you pick the “winner”. Now half of those people see one team, the other half see you pick the other team, and whoever saw you pick the winner thinks you’ve got a 100% accuracy rate over two games. You could do that for a while and then offer to sell your pick for the Superbowl....
I’ve thought about this with the stock market and predicting that it would go up or down. After enough predictions, one would have an email list of people that saw one accurately predict the stock market after n times. This could then be used to request payment for future predictions.
While I can’t state that this breaks any laws, it is possible it might somehow. However, even if it doesn’t, it’s a really fucked up thing to do because it’s conning people out of money using a scam. I highly recommend against it and responding to emails of people predicting future outcomes of events that vary wildly with any certainty.
Most people in the U.S. see Mexico as an essential partner to stop drug trafficking and illegal border crossings, even as they express mixed views of Mexico’s government, according to a new poll....
That’s more like saying to catch a train from Miami to Puerto Rico. No one is gonna build all that train line over the ocean for hundreds and hundreds of miles 😆
As a Floridian, people from the Pacific Northwest might as well be foreigners to me. They are just very different from what I’m used to interacting with. They’re usually chill, accepting, quite socially conscious, into peculiar hobbies, and wear a lot of black. That’s uncommon here.
Dude, I LOVE Brazilians. I went for a little over 2 weeks in July. People were so nice, respectful, considerate, and laid back. I want to spend a month there next time I go.
Also, your bananas are on another level. I haven’t eaten a banana in the US since I got back.
Interesting info and I’m not arguing against your point, but that source doesn’t address their point at all. The cited source covers recent demographics. The previous user is referring to events that occurred in 1947ish. The time periods are not close enough to be relevant to each other, especially considering the massive changes that occurred throughout that period in the area.
That’s kind of like if someone said that the Caribbean was entirely populated by natives when the Europeans showed up in 1492, and someone responded with demographics from the 1570s after the Spanish had established settlements in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad, and conquered the Aztecs to dismiss the initial point. The demographics are going to be vastly different. It kind of sheds doubt onto your rebuttal since there seems to be a logical disconnect.
Does anyone have any sources on the demographics right before the British invited Jewish people to move to the Levant?
The way I understand it is that even if we omit any ancestral blame for what happened, the Native Americans are still dealing with the impact while European descendants benefit from it. It’s kind of like if I went to school with a very bright kid that was horribly abused and kicked out into the streets, so they performed poorly and dropped out, allowing me to get into the best college possible and have a great career. Why should I have any compassion for this kid if I didn’t abuse them myself? Why would I help them get housed and into college? Why would I even acknowledge that they were abused and forced out of their home? I’m one that earned it by working hard to get into college and graduate.
This omits the possibility that this kid might have outperformed me and taken the college spot, leaving me to be in a worse off situation.
I just had two people take my order in a drive thru. They alternated every question. First person welcomed me and asked what I wanted. The next person asked what size and drink I wanted. The first person came back on and asked if I wanted any cheese sauce then the second person came back on and told me the price. When I got up...
That sounds pretty neat, but I personally don’t want anymore apps on my phone. I wish that I could trust companies to not access my information. It’s not like I’m big on privacy, but I know that companies are short-sighted and will do whatever they can to increase their quarterly profits at any legal expense. Since I don’t want to spend my time trying to figure out which apps are using my data and how, I just avoid installing them to begin with. I also don’t eat fast food enough to have all of these apps installed, so it’s not like I’m missing out on a major convenience. This concludes my unsolicited Ted Talk.
I’m not arguing against your point at all because that seems like a personal matter. However, I am interested in knowing how the typical person uses more than 128GB of storage space. Aside from people with interests that require more space (eg a photographer or traveler), what do people have on their phones that take up more than 128GB of storage space?
I also have a Pixel 6 Pro, and agree with your arguments. The specs look almost the same. However, the differences that do stick out to me are that the 8 comes with a Pixel Watch 2, better camera software, and 7 years of OS updates. With the trade-in, it seems like it might be worth the upgrade for me.
Achshually, CBT is for people that generally have their full mental capacities because it requires them to consciously and directly focus on their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The cognitive part in particular requires certain mental abilities. Some mental incapacities prevent this type of cognitive introspection, so those individuals would benefit more from therapies that are more indirect in nature, such as ones that fall under the psychodynamic umbrella, acceptance & commitment, values-oriented, solution-focused, or skills training.
Yep, and they’re wasting the time they have with a majority in the House.
The Freedom Caucus is acting like a crew of undercover Democrats infiltrated the Republicans Party to sabotage it by acting like caricatures. Like, back in 2010ish, some people that were fed up with Republicans being so rigid would complain by exaggeraing their politics, and these Freedom Caucus dipshits said, “Let’s do that, but for for real.” However, they’re in effect practically helping the Democrats. This is crazy 😮
Yeah, that tipping before service idea has to be costing business. There are several places I avoid because they request tip before service. My local Foxtail coffee shop is one of those places, and the lowest tip option is 15%. On the 3 times I have tipped, they still gave me subpar service. Like, they didn’t even do the bare minimum, let alone anything exceptional.
I was assuming that they would have a commitment to earning that tip because of personal integrity and that they would expect to receive more tips in the future when I return.

What I like about your username, other than reminding me of an actress I like, is that you could really be here, but no one would think that she would (1) be on lemm.ee and (2) she would use her actual name and photo for her account.
It doesn’t have to be that interesting. It just needs to be content. I found maybe 5%-10% of posts on imgur to be interesting, yet I still went there everyday for years. Same with Reddit, but likely even less.
