Uns wurde heute eröffnet, dass man, so wie nie zuvor, das Buch, welches Gegenstand der Klausur ist, nicht mit in die Klausur nehmen darf.
Gerade schnell das ganze Buch reingedrückt, weil’s so Grütze war, sodass ich zu faul war, es zu lesen. Wird toll mor… heute.

Mein Fahrlehrer wollte mich zur praktischen anmelden, da hatte ich noch nicht mal richtig angefangen die (nervigen) Fragen zu lernen (Wie viel Ladung mit dem Auto auf der Straße wann etc.). Einfach faul sein, das regelt.

Meine Großeltern kommen mit Win10 gerade so zurecht, man muss nur jede Woche einmal helfen. Windows 11 wird das komplett zerficken. Natürlich muss ich auch erstmal wieder den Office 2016 Installer finden und den produkt key auslesen. Linux wär einfacher.

Ich kenne mindestens 5 Leute, deren Laptop schon für Windows 10 zu langsam ist. Viel zu langsam. Wie soll das mit 11 werden? Unterstützt werden die Dinger offiziell auf jeden Fall nicht.

Ich hab schon einmal versucht eine Distro drauf zu packen, Windows wollte aber mit seinen 3 rescue/reserved partitions keinen Platz machen. Inzwischen haben die einen neuen PC, ich denke mal, dass ich da einfach ne zweite SSD rein packen kann. Direkt komplett umziehen wäre wahrscheinlich tödlich, da sie rein auf dem Konzept “da klicke ich hin, dann passiert exakt das” basiert arbeiten. Meinem Großvater kann man schwer neu beibringen, meine Großmutter ist fast blind und ebenfalls vergesslich, zumindest wenn es um Technik geht.
Mint sieht ja von der Benutzeroberfläche schon so aus wie Windows, zumindest von der Platzierung der UI Elemente, aber für Office etc. bräuchte ich dann eine Möglichkeit, die wie MS Office 2016 aussehen bzw. funktionieren zu lassen.
Sonst würde Linux wohl nur Vorteile bringen; die hälfte der Zeit, in der ich ihnen helfen muss, ist Windows dran schuld, da wieder irgendwelche besorgniserregenden Popups á la “neue features” kommen. Einige Arbeiten könnte man wahrscheinlich auch automatisieren, mit Windows hab ich zu wenig Erfahrung dafür.

Nur für SpiderSolitaire muss ich ne richtige Alternative finden.

Mainly electron itself. For example the discord app (which uses electron) is less memory efficient (and much more restrictive etc.) than just a separate Firefox instance. It also had many problems with being up to date, but that’s due to the discord devs deciding they want an own, custom electron, based on an outdated version. The main problem with electron for me stems from the chromium base, as basically any large app based on chromium (discord, spotify and steam) has massive flickering and performance problems on Wayland+Nvidia. A special combination, but still a factor for a ‘cross platform’ framework.

On the other hand, stuff like Signal never had any problems on my machine.

So, just use the stock electron, optimally the system one [electron binary], and see if you can enable wayland compatibility natively (otherwise we need to use environment variables etc., which works moderately at best).

I’d say:

  • Lightweight (no bloat)
  • No licenses
  • Easier package management (of preinstalled drivers etc.)
  • Easier driver development
  • Much more flexible (Bootloaders, Partitions, etc.)

Except there’s literally no change in performance as a normal compiler will treat those the same. It just looks nice and trim down the time an experienced dev reads and understands the code by around 200ms.

A typical Linux distro, especially lightweight and simpler ones like Arch, will of course be better than a bloated OS, like Pop or Windows. The only problem with Linux distros might be the choice of tools - X and AMD will work much better overall than Wayland and Nvidia.
Just that many people may have an Nvidia GPU before deciding to use Linux, and some people just prefer to use Wayland over X for literally everything else.

My PC with Wayland + Nvidia has so many problems with gaming, especially flickering and performance, while my Laptop with Wayland + integrated Intel graphics has no problems at all - even in games, that I wonder if Nvidia + Wayland still really sucks ass or if my GPU is just broken. Currently there’s a bug where frames are ‘switched’ somehow, so it’s not Frame 1, Frame 2, … Frame n, but Frame 1, Frame 3, Frame 2, Frame 5, Frame 6, Frame 4 etc.
I expect it to be fixed by an update of nvidia in the future, but there are always such bugs.

I played around with scaling a bit, but removed the commands in my sway config afterwards. I do have different screen resolutions tho.

We never had any toys or anything for our cat. Her toys were the mice etc. outside, she loved to hunt. Running and hunting outside is a lot more interesting for them anyway.
No beds etc. inside, she either had couches/arm chairs in basically all rooms and the bed of someone to sleep.

Probably not that useful for OP, as they want an extension, but: On Linux one could use pavucontrol to individually set volume (in and out) and devices for every single stream, including single tabs.

iOS, as far as I remember, only supports WebDav. Which is useless with an SFTP server, ofc. And yes, there is the solution of installing another file server, configuring it, maintaining it, ripping a new hole into the Firewall, and fiddling around with file permissions, but that sucks, obviously. You could of course buy (or even subscribe to, I believe) a third party, closed sourced, app.

Then there’s Android, with FOSS apps like RemoteFiles, because sideloading.
Or just mount it with rclone.

And in my case, I don’t need an actual mount anyway, because the FOSS Keepass2Android has native SFTP support, because it makes sense to have it.
