zurohki,

uBlock Origin works on Firefox mobile.

Also, remember that you can make uBlock filters for random bullshit like Fandom’s side bars and suggestions, not just paid ads.

The new amdgpu kernel driver only launched in 2015 and it was buggy and unstable for a while. GPUs from around that era default to using the older radeon kernel driver which lacks Vulkan support.

Polaris (Radeon RX 400 series from 2016) and newer just work, older cards can take some prodding.

zurohki,

Firefox is probably looking for modern hardware acceleration for its rendering engine to work.

zurohki,

Not surprising, game devs aren’t really testing with Intel GPUs or working with Intel driver devs.

There will probably be a driver fix in a week or two though. Intel seem to be progressing fast.

zurohki,

As a non-Tesla EV owner, the one supercharger I’ve been to that accepted non-Teslas was out in a rural spot where there was one shop that was closed when I got there.

All the other chargers I’ve been to are stuffed in random parking lots. There’s often something within a 15 minute walk, but that’s completely random. It’s obvious no real attempt was made to cater to charging vehicles.

We’re now starting to get sites with more chargers, and they are being set up as convenient rest stops with food and other services available. But those are still few and far between.

Teal deer; your personal experience is not universal.

zurohki,

They usually don’t have anywhere to sit down out of the weather. They’re not designed for people to be there, you’re intended to buy stuff and get out. So they aren’t great as a half hour charging stop.

zurohki,

Also, Intel are going pretty hard with driver updates and fixes. I’m really hoping they make it, we need more competition.

The main issue is probably nobody works with Intel to do any testing before launch.

zurohki,

having a community help you with your games and find bugs is beautiful and probably pretty fucking cool for devs.

That’s all well and fine for free open source projects, but products that expect me to pay money for them need to pay contributors. I’m not donating my time and effort so that some shareholder can buy another yacht.

zurohki,

Sasser taught me that killing lsass causes reboots.

Watching that go around a room full of computers was a blast.

zurohki,

They do the isekai thing so then the world building happens naturally as we watch the clueless dork explore the fantasy world and encounter stuff.

Otherwise you have to find ways to explain stuff to the audience when the characters grew up in that world and should already know all about it, so don’t need to discuss things.

zurohki,

The sponsor bits are half the reason I don’t subscribe to Youtube Premium. I’m not paying all that money and still watching ads.

zurohki,

Blue skies, motherfucker.

zurohki,

And the more ads they show, the more people install adblockers.

zurohki,

The ad might be produced by one company, served by a second company through deals made by a third company to a website owned by a fourth company. And the fourth company is trying to do something the second company doesn’t want.

Or it’s a Google ad on youtube.com and they ducked up, who the duck knows.

Ducking autocorrect.

zurohki,
zurohki,

There’s no ‘or’, really. That kinetic energy you’re capturing with regen braking, you got that by burning gas. All your energy comes from burning gas.

Unless it has a plug, it’s a gas car.

zurohki,

Welcome to the Internet! Is this your first day?

zurohki,

I’m pretty sure shorts are just Youtube videos but with a different UI.

You can take the video ID from the URL of a Shorts clip and put it in a normal Youtube URL and the shorts video plays with the normal Youtube player.

zurohki,

I think there’s some on the back of the toilet leaning against the wall.

zurohki,

You can be the best in the world and still not be good enough.

Driving a car around using a dozen cameras pointing in every direction isn’t something that’s fundamentally impossible. We just can’t do it yet.

zurohki,

“No, I just sort of lie there.”

zurohki,

IIRC holding breakers doesn’t even prevent them from tripping, they still trip internally if the switch can’t move.

zurohki,

Parent said the breakers were 'forced open with copper wire", which sounds like wire was wrapped around the switch to hold it in position. If you’re bridging the terminals with wire, sure. That takes the breaker out of the circuit entirely.

zurohki,

Did they seriously go to all the trouble of replacing the screen and not use a screen with freesync?

Variable refresh rate support means it doesn’t matter what frame rate a game can reach and locking is pointless. There’s no tearing or stutter ever, whatever rate a game renders at is what the screen runs at.

VRR is incredibly useful for achieving a smooth experience on low powered hardware.

zurohki,

Everyone thinks, “But advertising doesn’t work on me.” That’s why it’s still legal.

zurohki,

Those billboards aren’t for you, they’re to remind the kids in the back that McDonald’s exists.

zurohki,

They’re getting cheaper quickly now that the Chinese automakers are ramping up exports. Give it a couple more years.

zurohki,

I’m pretty sure that’s code for “understaffed and lots of unpaid overtime”.

Is there anything good in Hexbear?

The few conversations I’ve had there have been unproductive and inflammatory. While even in other instances when I’ve said something someone disagreed with they would at least support their statement. Also no one would tell me why the “Confused Unga Bunga” meme is racist but they keep accusing me of it. I’m all for...

zurohki,

According to knowyourmeme the dude in the meme is a neanderthal character from a movie.

“Unga bunga” was originally used in a cartoon in 1950 with a caricature of an Aboriginal Australian, and it’s completely reasonable for someone to not know that. I didn’t until you prompted me to go and research the meme.

The phrase seems to be nonsense babble - there’s no way to deduce the Aboriginal Australian racism link from the movie image or caption, you have to actually research the backstory.

zurohki,

I sometimes wonder how today’s media is going to be seen in 10-20 years, when EVs are much faster and cheaper than gas cars so they’ve completely taken over.

“Mommy, why do the cars on TV all make fart sounds?”

zurohki,

The artist formerly known as Prince platform formerly known as Twitter.

zurohki,

BTW, there’s a Mastodon instance at wayland.social.

zurohki,

I’m in this picture and I don’t like it.

zurohki,

This is one of the criticisms of the car that hits home for me. People are now replacing old Teslas which they bought ‘full self driving’ for without ever receiving the feature.

zurohki,

That’s a temporary thing to drive demand for this quarter, isn’t it?

zurohki,

He looked like a real world Tony Stark when he was surrounded by teams of smart people doing all the hard parts and PR for him.

What we’re seeing now is pure unfiltered Musk. He was probably always like this, but now he’s off the leash.

zurohki,

Spite isn’t rational.

zurohki,

Nah, Project Treble separated the driver and system stuff years ago.

You can just add a new system image to your existing drivers and away you go.

Why @firefox is not implementing this UI by default and why none of the Firefox-derived web browsers implementing this.

I somehow managed to build this, but its not prefect.

@librewolf

At this point the there has been almost no significant improvement.
How Mozilla Ruined Firefox --> https://youtu.be/ugnOM2mzgNU

Hoping @firefox wont forces me to move to brave.

EDIT:- New UI with Minimize Close Maximize button, giving space which can be used to drag.

zurohki,

And I’ve never looked at Firefox’s tab bar and thought, this UI element really needs to occupy a lot more screen space.

The chunk of screen space lost to that tabs window wouldn’t be as big a deal if the windows were maximised, but there’s no button for that now either.

zurohki,

Everyone thinks ads only work on other people, that’s why ads haven’t been banned yet.

zurohki,

Yeah, I looked up the price because I’ve been thinking of replacing the basic tablet I bought a couple of years ago.

The Pixel tablet is six times the price. Desperate my ass.

zurohki,

You should never say 'worcestershire sauce ’ in public, you’ll cause a riot.

zurohki,

It’s not that it’s broken, it’s that the open source driver stack and AMD cards are a superior experience. The Nvidia Linux driver is just like the Windows driver.

zurohki,

DC fast chargers cost something like $70k each. Hydrogen filling stations cost around a million each.

Also, with battery EVs home charging does most of the heavy lifting, you only use fast chargers for long trips. So just a handful of fast chargers on the main roads between cities makes battery EVs viable for a lot of people.

It’s not enough to collect hydrogen, a filling station also needs to compress it to 10,000 PSI to actually get it into a vehicle’s tank. So there’s no home filling for fuel cell EVs, you need a similar footprint to gas stations. Nobody’s interested in spending hundreds of billions of dollars building all those filling stations.

zurohki,

It actually isn’t. Hydrogen filling stations can only fill a couple of cars in a row before they need time to pump hydrogen from the storage tank to the buffer tank and compress and cool it to -40 degrees. So the number of cars they can handle in a day is not massively higher than a DC fast charger.

If it doesn’t have time to prepare between vehicles, it starts taking 20 minutes to fill each vehicle.
