I’m a lover of physical books but I’m looking to get an e-reader as well, for those books that are hard to find physical copies of, or are just very expensive....
I’m a really big reader and have had 4 or 5 kindles now. My latest is the oasis and it was a considerable payout for me but I absolutely love it. I rarely pay for books, but kindles have a send-to-kindle function so you can download books from anywhere in any of the main formats and just email it to your kindle.
E-reader screens can seem really basic to the uninitiated but the paper white/oasis is just like reading from a book imo. Except you can read it in the dark too.
I’ve been prescribed medical cannabis for over a year now and neither CBD or THC oil do anything for my appetite. Vaping dry herb does though, even the low THC stuff. Maybe I’m weird though!
CBD oil does wonders for my arthritis, depression and anxiety though. And I slept for over 6 hours for the first time in 2 years when I started THC oil.
I think I did that thing when you start a conversation in your head and then your comment posted mid-thought has no context, iykwim?! What I was thinking was: Feeling nauseated can reduce your appetite, as can repeated vomiting and the anxiety associated with it. People with chronic nausea tend not to want to eat, and not eating (or vomiting what you eat) is far more medically problematic than experiencing nausea. Hence, stimulating appetite as well as suppressing nausea is what makes medical cannabis so useful for cancer patients. But OPs wife isn’t going to see the anti nausea/increased appetite side effects from CBD alone. THC is the more important cannabinoid, and if she’s no longer pregnant/breast feeding she shouldn’t have a problem getting it prescribed- even in the UK. But it will be a private prescription here which is expensive af.
I didn’t want to say it if it wasn’t already on your radar, but I have PoTS and know a number of people with jejunostomy feeding tubes due to their gastroparesis. I even know a girl on parenteral nutrition. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone with nausea as their main symptom though so I didn’t think of PoTS until you mentioned you’d researched it.
I love the acknowledgment that it’s not your body - you sound like a loving, supportive partner 🙂 Sometimes the “answer” seems so simple when you’re not the patient but when you’re chronically ill, you’ve already lost so much control over your body… having to take a drug you don’t want to feels like a step too far. It’s hard to explain and I’m not doing a very good job!
THC is not remotely in the same category of awfulness as a feeding tube so I’m glad she’ll probably try that first. And you don’t need to get high high to feel the anti-nausea/pro-appetite benefits - I use less than 0.25gm a day, maybe even half that and it does the trick just fine. Wishing your wife better soon!
I was disappointed too. I’ve never liked weed - the smell, the fuss, the mess, the taste. Blugh. I’d hoped oils would be all I needed but there’s no denying that dry herb vaping is more effective for my symptoms. The private pharmacy is going to start offering gummies as an alternative to herb, maybe that will work for me? Fingers crossed!
I feel you. This is the second winter we’ve only been able to heat one room to at least 18C, and that’s not warm enough for my disabled ass. My electric throw blanket is on 24/7 though and is incredibly efficient - it costs less than 25p a day. I would highly recommend one if you can manage the upfront cost. Also wrist warmers are highly underrated imo - cheap, you can knit/crochet them yourself, your fingers are still free for touch screens and they seem to keep me warmer than just a hat alone. Wishing you more comfortable times ahead, friend.
Would this truly be the suggested set up though? An inflatable pool in your dining room? I used to have hydrotherapy until I found it too difficult to actually get there. They recommended warm baths, not that I DIY one in my house!
I set my bath pillow on fire once - while I was in the bath. I was well impressed with my quick thinking just to yank in down into the bathwater to put it out. My partner was too unimpressed with my stupidity/carelessness to appreciate my quick reflexes!
Candles around the bath! One behind my head got a bit out of control and caught the bath pillow. It was made from something super flammable (or inflammable?) so it went up quickly. It singed a few hairs and the pillow was ruined, but no injuries or damage otherwise!
Imagine paying to use someone’s “hydrotherapy pool” only to turn up and see this! 😂 yeah, there’s a house near me that has a small indoor swimming pool that’s rented out for hydro. It’s really expensive though.

Should I still isolate myself after a positive test? Is it ok to do my own shopping (with a mask) or should I call someone? Do I still wait for a negative test or simply to be free of symptoms? Since people around me don’t really talk about Covid anymore and my country doesn’t have any guidelines in place, I’d be...
I’ve had 6 covid vaccinations and I’m still not protected. It’s not a case of “having the chance to get sufficiently vaccinated” if the vaccines don’t work on your immunosuppressed body, or if you can’t have the vaccine at all.
It’s unbelievably selfish to go out when you know you have covid. How hard is it to stay home for 5 days or so when you test positive ffs?! The fact that you don’t think staying home for a few days is “justified” when you literally risk killing someone vulnerable by not isolating is frankly shameful.
In the UK “toilets under the stairs” are quite common, both my childhood houses had one. They’re converted from old school larders so they’re tiny, and I’m sure neither had a 15” gap before the sink.
I think framing it as fossil fuels will run out in our lifetime, or the lifetime of the next generation stresses the urgency of the situation, and makes it more relatable than saying “fossil fuels will run out by year 20XX”. It feels harder to ignore that way.
Do you remember the creepy Ronald McDonald statue things they had back in the 90s that were made out of fibreglass? That’s my bet. A creepy fibreglass Elvis.
I believe there’s a tiny bracket (? Idk what you’d call it) behind the fake tulip between the leaves. If that’s not a bracket/catch/support I think it’s a scuff mark, as if the drawbridge is ever so slightly too big for the gap and you have to slam it down with your foot.
I could be talking out my arse of course but even so, it seems a fitting explanation in every respect!
That must have been terrifying! Has he got his eyesight back fully now? One of the drugs I take to control my lupus has damaged my retinas - but not to the point of blindness, thank god.
They’re not a thing in the UK anymore - outside of this they never really were. And I can’t see them starting up again tbh. There’s no political us vs them about it, they’re not mandatory - even for healthcare staff. What is there possibly to protest about? If you want to risk your life and the lives of everyone around you, you can go right ahead without any blowback or censure.
Are you talking about in the UK? I disagree. I just don’t see that happening because there won’t be anything to protest. I don’t think we’ll go back into lockdown again no matter how bad it gets. At most they‘ll recommend wearing masks again, tell the vulnerable to shield, put capacity limits on indoor venues, and restrict visits to hospitals and care homes. Very worse case scenario they might urge people to WFH/stay at home and maybe reintroduce bubbles at schools.
I can believe it of American because antivaxx views correlate with political views and the US is so divided politically that it almost doesn’t matter what it’s about, people will argue over it. But without that aspect to it in the UK there just isn’t anything to protest.
