zurohki,

What’s more upsetting is that printers are client side all the way. There is nothing about them that needs to teach or to the Internet to print pages. The printer itself handles the “letting you print.” So the thing sitting on your desk, that you own, is choosing this for you.

Seems like one of those things some bearded nerd would get very upset about.

zurohki,

Even if today’s EVs degraded like the first Leaf, when you start off with 250 miles of range you could lose a third of it and still have a very usable vehicle.

zurohki,

Twice as expensive to fill as a gas car and more expensive than a battery EV to buy, all while still producing tons of CO2 by steam reforming methane to make the hydrogen? Wow, sign me up!

Hydrogen is the answer, but the question is “How can fossil fuel companies keep making money while pretending to be green?”

zurohki,

Hydrogen is such a pain to deal with, the filling stations cost something like a million dollars each.

You can’t just use normal materials to contain high pressure hydrogen - the molecules are so small that it seeps through steel and turns it brittle.

zurohki,

She’s in a good mooood.

zurohki,

I love that wayland.social exists. It’s a Mastodon instance.

zurohki,

I remember the earlier days of the internet, when the men were men, the women were men, and the children were FBI agents.

zurohki,

IIRC, with an Nvidia card DXVK will spoof an AMD card in a lot of games because otherwise the game will try to interact with the Windows Nvidia drivers which aren’t there.

zurohki,

That OP, he’s a really hoopy frood who knows where his towel is.

zurohki,

I heard it was called Data Destroyer.

zurohki, (edited )

If the ISO was on his boot drive, dd might have broken the partition before it finished reading the file.

It’s a reference to the Arch Linux fuck-up assessment form anyway.

zurohki,

I’m okay with being charged a monthly subscription for something that has an ongoing cost, like mobile data. So long as I can still hotspot my phone and access ‘premium connectivity’ features over wifi, that is.

zurohki,

Exactly. It’s not that they think the US can’t pay it’s debts, it’s that they think politicians might throw a tantrum and refuse to. All the talk about financial data is missing the point.

zurohki,

Can’t wait for Windows 720 X Series XS.

zurohki,

You. I like you.

Looks like you can't opt out of redesign by default anymore?

Had to check some health related subreddits today and my account seems to be automatically redirecting to new reddit. To see old style reddit I’ve got to manually put in old.reddit.com as the url. Looks like the account settings under old reddit were edited and changed to preferences, and there is no longer a toggle to “opt...

zurohki,

Stage one and stage three enshittification. You forgot the bit in the middle where they chase business customers.

zurohki,

I think you need buttons and the screen.

I can just use the volume knob on the steering wheel with my thumb to control volume or mute music, but if I’m parked and want to listen to a specific song it’s fine that I go poking around on the touchscreen to do that.

I can use the ‘mode’ button to switch to the radio or Spotify, but if I want to set up Spotify with my account details I need to use the touchscreen.

The touchscreen lets you easily expose rarely used, complicated functions. Things you need to do while driving need to be buttons.
