What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

I had similar netbook like OP and was running Lubuntu for a very long time but afaik they dropped support for 32 bit architectures some time ago. I think 18.04 was the last 32 bit LTS? Not sure, I’d need to check it

So if one person picks 1000 apples per day and the second picks 2 apples, then they split apples 501 to each. Good luck convincing the first person that this is good for them

Aren’t they from Moldova?

Enough phone and laptop chargers to not have to constantly go to another room to grab one.

Yes! I had enough of this so I bought like 6 USB-C cables at once, best buy ever

What is something worth buying as a teen? please explain.

sense most online business are having black friday is it worth buying something or should i pass and try to save my money. im a teen i have around 200$ but i would like to limit myself to 100$ or less. im probably posting this in the wrong place but im not sure, i just want to make a smart choice when it comes to money....

That’s a good question. It’s hard to go back to my teen years but I’d suggest:

  • buy a musical instrument and learn to play it, really doesn’t mater which one. Especially during college years everyone who could play anything was suddenly a superstar
  • buy some book to learn some skill, again doesn’t matter that much what you learn. I don’t know, like mixing cocktails? Sounds fun. For example by accident I learned “reading of hands”. I quickly learned that it’s bullshit but boy, was it an interresting thing to perform during parties in college
  • Nothing really comes to my mind regarding of profesional development. Really at your level most of the stuff you can learn is free online and you don’t need anything expensive

Grouplove - Ways To Go

I remember playing it as a joke to my friends as this “weird video with young Kim Jong Un”. Ended up being one of my most favorite songs ever

EfreetSK, (edited )
@EfreetSK@lemmy.world avatar

Do you remember how you found the song?

I do actually :) I saw it featured in a video, something like “metal band reacts to modern music” and I think the metal band was Gloryhammer

Edit: Found it, it wasn’t Gloryhammer

www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_U7ejfOuV0&t=366s

And do you have any clue what it means?

That I don’t know for sure, the beginning sounds like it’s about falling in love but what the refrain means I have no idea

Linux users really are like vegetarians/vegans - they want you to join them and when you do, then they judge you for not being vegetarian/vegan enough

I know this is a common joke but how many of us don’t have a problem like this?

Personally I usually have a horible memory but this is never an issue for me, I can stop at any moment and pick up relatively quickly later

I’m not 100% sure but If you heard about companies/websites that provide DNA testing like Ancestry, MyHeriatage, etc. (actually anything related to genealogy), there is a big chance that they’re based in Ohio Utah and in some way connected (or directly owned) by mormons. Just by now they must have a huge database of people’s DNA

But feel free to correct me, as I said I’m not entirely sure if this is the context

I hope they rename it to something cooler because now it’s horrible. I mean the ‘train’? What? How about the ‘MegaTrain’! ‘CyberTrain’, ‘SciTrain’, ‘E-Thruster’, ‘TransEther’ or plain ‘T’. You know, because that’s what’s the most important

In our family it looks exactly like this, that’s why I found it very funny :)

We usually just chat (or videochat) and when f.e. dad randomly calls me then it’s some serious business. And for that brief moment my mind jumps to most catastrophic scenarios why he could be calling me. And I think it goes both ways because when I call dad the first question usually is “Hi, did something happen?”

EfreetSK,
@EfreetSK@lemmy.world avatar

Let me guess, you don’t have kids. Trust me it goes both ways. I’m reading your comment and I also have no idea why anyone would hold such stance

EfreetSK,
@EfreetSK@lemmy.world avatar

The funny thing is that in like 1 or 2 years after this video, he did a video sponsored by Nord VPN :)

Eh, not sure if enjoyment is the right word. But it’s nice.

I started with running this year and it was awful and painful. But after I passed a certain threshold I realized it’s no longer painful, I could just hold the pace and run like forever.

Now it’s sort of relaxing experience where I can just let loose my brain and think about whatever I want for like half an hour. Which is nice when you’re an adult with no time for yourself

How to achieve this - I don’t even know myself how I made it. I got one of those Garmin watches for birthday and there was this Coach feature, I just followed it and after like 4 months I was able to run 12 km

Kebab plate with vegetables.

A coleague of mine was eating it when he was on a diet to lose weight. It's basically kebab/gyros meat and a vegetable salad with a dresing (usually tzaziki). You have basically no sugar in it, it's just protein and vitamins.

Back in the day it cost like 4-5 € where I live which was pretty cheap for a lunch. Now it'd more like 6-7 € but that's still decent

EfreetSK,
@EfreetSK@lemmy.world avatar

Umm what's unhealthy in it? :)

I guess it depends how we define what's a healthy meal but in my book few rules to eat healthy are:

  • lower your sugar, flour, potatoes income to minimum
  • lower your fat income and choose right fats
  • eat more fruits and vegetables
  • maintain right ballance of carbs, fats and proteins

A "kebab salad" sounds quite healthy in that take. Despite sounding strange that a common street food could be healthy
