Plus if you drop anything in the bathroom and the lid is up it’s ending up in the toilet, learned that one morning when I was about to brush my teeth, that’s when I became a dedicated kid closer

Spam calls and texts are driving me fing crazy anyone have suggestions?

After repeated data breaches that no company really seems to give a s— about my phone is blowing up with literally hundreds of spam calls and texts month. I get and make MAAAAYBE 2 or 3 important calls per month, 180-200 of the rest are literally all spam. Anyone have any suggestions, apps ect that they have found refuge with?...

variants_of_concern,

They usually hang up as soon as you pick up most of the time, just bots checking if it’s a real number for some reason

variants_of_concern,

Most of the people calling you are scammers pretending to be political or charity campaigns using sketchy urls each time asking for money so I doubt they care about breaking the law more than they already are

variants_of_concern,

How do I find the number to forward texts too, I have like 3 a day from new numbers each time

variants_of_concern,

My phone app does a good job of labeling suspected spam calls and texts so I just set it to auto ignore all those and that’s been pretty good so far, but I’m just using the default phone app on samsung,

when I had pixel the Google phone app was nice because it would auto answer if it was maybe a real number and only ring once they said why they were calling so if it wasnt important they would just hangup without you being bugged

It’s crazy how actually caring about the source makes things so much better, they did a great job with the Terminator game so I imagine a lot of those fans also like RoboCop and are excited by the same team making it and putting so much effort into the nostalgia and story

variants_of_concern,

If you liked the movies it’s good, my brother is a huge fan boy and is always talking about it, how it incorporated the movies and let’s you play as the Terminator storming the human base. But if you’re not that into the Terminator then as a game I’m not sure how it compares to other games

My wife works in a highschool and feels like you do, not so much fake but addicted and you have to put on a facade like if you are walking to class alone you should be on your phone pretending to be messaging someone or else you’ll feel awkward

People who read marketing emails, where do you find the time to do so? And why?

I assume there are people who read these things, otherwise companies wouldn’t send me so many of them. I seem to get daily spam from literally any company I’ve ever interacted with in any way, and they are long boys full of text and pictures that Thunderbird helpfully hides from me but I presume are full of jagged brightly...

variants_of_concern,

I do daily, get my coffee and read my emails, of it’s something no I dont want I unsub, otherwise I mark it as read and archive it, takes a few minutes, at work we use email a lot it’s just easier than dealing with teams search, otherwise if it’s just our team we use JIRA

I really need to get rid of my drone lipos but they cost me money so hopefully they don’t pop haha

What Lemmy communities would you like to share that we may not know about?

I’m noticing an influx of Reddit users today, maybe revolving around their weird bug they had today. I know this question pops up semi regularly, but for those just getting their foot in the door maybe we can help show them what else is out here on the Fediverse to help them get started....

variants_of_concern,

Anything that you can tell they don’t know much about but they still talk about it like if they know. I guess that’s more of a type of person that a subject but I don’t mind chatting people up about what they like most of the time

variants_of_concern,

Even if you dont use lemmy or other websites your information can still be posted there by someone who wants to do that

variants_of_concern,

That was the first thought that came to mind

variants_of_concern,

Now you can have 30 virtual monitors instead of one real boring one

variants_of_concern,

I mean if you use windows it’s baked right into the OS already, I still just prefer Firefox though, I liked the profiles in chrome especially made it easy to switch accounts with its own bookmarks but I got used to living without that

variants_of_concern,

Yeah I don’t get the hate, if a game is great then you’d want it to be able to last

variants_of_concern,

Exactly don’t take that away

variants_of_concern,

I have jerboa and just started using connect and like the ‘experimental’ slide to next post option

Firefox when you want it to work bester

Options for cloud hosted Lemmy server?

I feel like this is at least tangentially connected to self hosting, so I’m asking here. I’m interested in finding a cloud provider to host my own Lemmy server (similar to what Masto.host does with Mastodon). I’ve been looking around for all the different options available, and I haven’t found many. Communick.com and...

variants_of_concern,

I saw a post earlier on how someone was using the free hosting in Oracle to run their instance, I made an account but haven’t gotten it setup

variants_of_concern,

good reason to ween yourself off reddit and help build up lemmy by doing what you were going to do

variants_of_concern,

does using an app make it easier to use lemmy compared to just installing the PWA from firefox?

YSK there are sites that offer you a temporary email address for signing up for services that require one (like some Lemmy servers)

They work by giving you a random email address that is available for a short time (ex. 10min) and an inbox for any messages you recieve during that time (ex. an email verification message from a Lemmy server)...

variants_of_concern,

but reddit doesnt require an email? I never used an email for all my accounts Id create a new account every few months

variants_of_concern,

but then why not just buy the rub on stuff, you get more and it costs less plus you dont go spraying things into the air

variants_of_concern,

boredom has made me the man I am today, its tough now a days to get bored and not pull out your phone and browse lemmy instead of doing your hobbies

variants_of_concern,

Podcast addict was perfect for me, the ability to automatically add things to your queue based on priority was great. I used it to play a 10 minute news podcast every morning then jump back to whatever podcast I was listening to and have other weekly podcasts jump in after that

variants_of_concern,

I just cancelled everything, no more subscriptions for me, except for the yearly re-up on usenet indexers

variants_of_concern,

I remember watching this video that explained how it worked pretty neat

https://youtu.be/YGxTnGEAx3E

variants_of_concern,

Oh man that would be great slide is what was using as well before the move

variants_of_concern,

I forgot my sony earbuds have an app, I really enjoy the sony earbuds but the mic is completely useless, I tried to be cool like my coworker and use earbuds for meetings and I can hear him clearly through his apple earbuds but no one can understand me, I had to order a headset to use for meetings in order to participate

variants_of_concern,

I have bought tablets twice and I end up not really using them then giving them to my mom haha

variants_of_concern,

I store almost everything but my few favorite movies in 1080p. but I also let friends request content and I have automatic lists setup to add new stuff as it comes out so I try not to keep 4k, plus watching 4k outside of the house can be stressful on the server so 1080p is good for me, I have about 60tb of 1080p shows movies and youtube series

variants_of_concern,

for me 1080p is fine, I dont have that big of a tv, my concern is just storage space and my laziness. If I cared a bit more I would probably setup a second instance of Radarr to do 4k for my personal viewing, or if I didnt share my library with my family and friends. With 4k comes other issues you normally dont see when streaming since streaming services transcode down the move the bit rate is a lot lower and you dont see any issues, but when streaming locally the bit rate can go well over 100mbit and most tv's dont have over 100mbit connection, so you need something like an nvidia shield or xbox to not have stuttering, but it does look really nice seeing clear blacks instead of the blocks you get when watching something from like prime video. its comparable to playing the bluray if you have the right setup and file.

I prefer to do 1080p mainly because I share my library with friends and family and let them request whatever they want, their requests are automatically approved and pulled so my storage space is important, for example someone requested the office, thats like 560gb right there, but I really liked the show chernobyl so I pulled that at 4k and its only 5 episodes and thats already 140gb
