Just a moment ago me and my SO were talking about the company my dad works for and she said it’s a shame they don’t have work for me too (I’m unemployed) while knowing wery well I’m trying to gather up the courage to start my own bussines.
I write all my expenses and incomes down onto app called Wallet by budget bakers. I don’t set any monthly budgets or anything however, because I find that keeping track alone already makes me much more mindful consumer. I already have records of my finances for almost 3 years so it’s pretty interesting to get to monitor my spending across a long timeframe.
I use mine during work hours, right before bed, and toilet time. After that I sometimes forget where it is. I don't take it with me into places like movies, restaurants, ball games, etc...
I block ads as much as possible, which is great for ensuring I see mostly what I want to see via searching or whatever feeds I follow, but it turns out a lot of my feeds are light on general media coverage like books/movies/music/etc....

Just kinda curious do you guys ever run into issues of lacking imessage (like your friends unwilling to use another app) or is it just a over blown issue.
I used whatsapp even on iPhone so it was a non-factor. I’m generally pretty mindful about not locking myself into walled gardens and would usually prefer even inferior 3rd party app to the polished proprietary one that I can’t take with me when I leave.
“Then what?” assumes there’s supposed to be something after. I don’t see why this needs to be the case. I can imagine AGI/ASI just sitting in a dark room alone for a billion years just thinking and being perfectly content with no intentions to manipulate the world around it.
I actually think this is the answer to Fermi’s paradox aswell. When we can connect to the matrix and live in our perfect virtual worlds there’s no need for anything physical anymore. Why bother trying to obtain resources in the real world when in the matrix you can have it all.

It has nothing to do with being or wanting to seem smart. People are fed up with their smartphones already and the idea of getting yet another device that’s demanding your attention and needing to be kept charged up is repulsive. A smart watch doesn’t bring anything of value for people like me.
That depends wether you’re applying a pulling force on it or just a sideways force and how big of an issue it’s going to be if and when it comes loose. Temperature swings affect metal and brick differently so the hole might start crumbling around the rod after some years and it might come loose. It’ll definitely never be as tight as it is now.

I just don’t like that anyone with my number can simply just call me whenever they want and not answering is seen as something that needs an explanation. Don’t get me wrong, I think that being able to make phone calls is a great thing but not in it’s current form. Would be much better if people had to send a message first and I could then call back when it suits me or something. It’s crazy that you can just demand my full attention to yourself when ever you want. For the very least it should be something truly urgent.
Anyone can watch videos of some african villages being visited by outsiders and how happy the local population generally appear. There’s a ton of negative stuff for those people to deal with, but I think there’s something to be said about the benefits of communal living no matter how much I try to convince myself it’s fine being by myself.

Not really. I never got into mobile gaming, tiktok, reels, shorts, instagram, snapchat etc. so I mainly use my phone for podcasts, maps and browsing lemmy while on toilet. While on my computer I spend 95% of my time on YouTube but I feel like even that has gotten worse lately. I’ve been getting suggestions about videos with like 19 views constantly and no matter how many I mark as “not interested” or “don’t recommend channel” they just keep coming back. Apparently because I like watching TheRunningManZ I must also like every other DayZ streamer that no one has ever heard about.

Disable all other adblockers, disable enhanced tracking protection for youtube.com in Firefox (shield icon in addres bar), remove your custom adblocking rules and update uBlock Origin manually atleast twice a day; settings > filter list > quick fixes > click the clock icon > click update. I don’t know why but I love the feeling of being able to watch people without them knowing about my presence. I spend a lot of time in nature and intentionally dress to blend in and I love that often when I hear/see people near me I can just stand there in plain sight and they still often don’t notice me.
For me definitely money / not wanting to work. I’d just want to do my own stuff all day everyday. And I mean actually do it rather than just sit on youtube all day
