can we talk about kde and tiling? i love it...

@unixporn

tdawg,

Curious why people seem to love tiling so much. Generally I’m fine with windows being overlapped when swapping between apps/instances is so easy with alt-tabbing and such

tdawg,

“how to look punchable with this one simple trick!”

tdawg,

Ah! So my older sister actually brought me and our youngers siblings into my mom’s room once. Mom was off working or something (think it was like summer we were all like 5 and 2, with my older sister being closer to 10). Anyway my sister gets this amazing idea to open my mom’s bed side drawer and pull out “balloons” for us to play with. She then helps us fill them with water and throw around. Remember we were all amazed at the pretty colors and how some of them were shiny! Needless to say my sister’s devious plan backfired and she was grounded while we were none-the-wiser. Funny shit

tdawg,

Does anyone else feel weirdly connected to their ancestors when this happens? Like the urge and sensation is just so primal

tdawg,

Honestly I’m just shocked people still buy these games

tdawg,

Weirdly enough this is a terrible example. I kinda like it (but for all the wrong reasons)

tdawg,

Did you even read what they said?

tdawg,

Feel like the title could just as easily have been “countries with the best train infrastructure”

tdawg,

You might be interested in htmx. While not fully as simple as html it tries to avoid the issues that come with large complex structures that SPA style websites often utilize

tdawg,

looks at dependency list

tdawg,

Yes, I’ll donate it to my savings. Thanks for asking

tdawg,

All things in moderation. Including moderation

tdawg,

Honestly I dont use percentages unless the meal is insanely expensive. I never tip at something as simple as a coffee shop or quick-dine-and-go thing (unless I’m a regular). Otherwise they get 5, 10, or 20 depending on service and food (regardless of total meal cost). My favorite places always get a little extra (5 -> 7, 10-> 15, 20 -> 25)

tdawg,

Funny how we see headlines for shit like this and then other headlines that are like “200% of all men age 30 and younger are single and suicidal.” Honestly it’s probably all bullshit just live your life

tdawg,

Wasn’t it also found to be able to pass through the blood-brain barrier?

tdawg,

Who the hell buy’s jersey Mike’s because of a meme?

tdawg,

Are people really not turning notifications off? I don’t even have notifications on for messaging apps

tdawg,

welcome to intellectual honesty :)

tdawg,

Ah yes. The memories of my old 2001 Honda. Ran that thing into the ground

tdawg,

This is probably a bit circle jerky, but I remember when my mom would buy groceries for an entire month and was devastated that it cost $100 (for a family of 4). We lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere but it’s still crazy to imagine getting that much out of that little these days

tdawg,

All for the low low price of 1,000 USD

tdawg,

Think it’s moreso evidence that the propaganda machine works

tdawg,

Genuine question: why do people care? The goal of language is to communicate and if you understand what the other person said then they’ve done that

tdawg,

Thank you for providing evidence in my favor by communicating an idea with words near the edge of incoherence. Obviously there’s a spectrum here between near misses and totally breakdown of language. But this is Lemmy so let’s jump the gun and not give people the consideration we would if we spoke to them to their face. I’m talking about how all the examples people have been providing are near misses that are very clearly communicating the same thing as a “correct” word. People aren’t stupid for using them, you’re an asshole for being irritated by it

tdawg,

Which is everyone willing to pay

tdawg,

Spoken like someone who doesn’t get calls from older people

tdawg,

Huh, guess that guy that anecdotally said insta might be the issue was right

tdawg,

What’s worse is when it happens in the middle of someone else having a tense conversation

tdawg,

Eeeeh maybe. America has a long history of over-correcting an issue and creating a new issue

tdawg,

Just put a real predator in the tank forehead

tdawg,

Ruby is a really nice language especially when taken in the context of it’s time. Curious why you feel it isn’t worth being someone’s favorite?

tdawg,

Are you trying to imply that python is both fast and strongly typed? As for the syntax that’s largely a matter of opinion. Most ruby-enjoyers I know specifically call out the syntax as something they like

Also I’m not qualified to comment on Lua so I won’t. Most of my language exploration has been with languages many people famously hate (perl and lisp)

All of that is to say I generally don’t think talking about what language is “best” is really a productive conversation. I was mostly curious if you had an intimate understanding of the tradeoffs or otherwise a strong opinion about how it was constructed

tdawg,

Honestly I hate rewatching things unless it’s been long enough that I’ve forgotten everything. Not much beats watching something good for the first time

tdawg,

this:

lim t → ∞

Does not equal this:

“Within your lifetime”

tdawg,

not all problems are worth busting out the heavy machinery (until they are)

tdawg,

Curious what use case you have for needing a do-while. Honestly I barely use while at all, a good ol for-loop normally does the trick

tdawg,

Just looked these guys up. Man what a wild ride

tdawg,

It’s common to run different rulesets based on region

tdawg,

As someone who lived with people who fetishized intelligence and used it as an excuse for toxic behavior the show is an uncomfortable reminder of that period in my life. Not just because of the characters themselves but due to the people I knew back then that would watch it

tdawg,

That is literally the most dangerous bike lane in existence

tdawg,

This just sounds like the game

tdawg,

You mean until the plastic bit breaks off from the bigger plastic bit

tdawg,

Haven’t heard that song. Did they drop a new single?

tdawg,

Sure but they haven’t cared about the state of their games in ages. Iike I’m all for pushing to get them to fix it and all, but think it’s weird that people are surprised. Especially when the vast majority of their focus has been on steam for the last forever

tdawg,

I’m mostly fine with it because my work buys my equipment so asking for new hardware is easy. Buuut you are absolutely right that we need a systemic fix for this. It’s anti-consumer for there not to be some required support length of like 5 years or something
