i wonder how they reached this conclusion.

There are many many studies proving internet and social media addiction can cause depression, and internet addiction is extremely widespread especially in teenagers. Also declining mental health and depression are so widespread in young people… this study seems strange.

this has been an issue for a while. For years drive always fails or has issues when I try to download old files (circa 2011-2015) to make local backups…

“Pro” suggests power users, but 8 GB is what you’d find in a low end word processing desktop for office use, or even a kid’s chromebook. This is crazy, they are REALLY pushing their luck with this.

I would say maybe if there’s enough pushback they’ll offer a better option, but I doubt it.

Chimpanzees Go Through Menopause, Too (www.nytimes.com)

It is not obvious why selection should favor menopause or the continued survival of individuals that can no longer reproduce. The famous Grandmother Hypothesis had been used to explain the evolutionary significance of menopause. A new study conducted on the Ngogo chimpanzees community of wild chimpanzees in Uganda challenges...

This is weird, i always assumed all other mammals went through it too. Why wouldnt they?

storksforlegs,

Ah, I see. That’s interesting, never realized this! I guess I just thought mammals had similar reproductive setups (aside from different gestations and number of children etc) But I really have no idea haha.

On one hand I agree, I am sick of seeing his face everywhere. But at least people are finding out what kind of a guy he really is. Maybe fewer people will fall for his garbage.

Also I cant think of another public figure who has self-destructed to such a degree.

When i am interested in a thing, I go out of my way to read the comments for peoples real experience of a thing. Shit is expensive, and want to know if it will be worth it.

I dont want to read a simulated review based on average comments, wtf.

Yes, data collecting is still happening, they just dont want to share with competitors. (And they get a few goodwill headlines suggesting meta is somehow “blocking data collection” haha)

The only way to be sure is to buy it from an outdoor store directly, or go to an actual bookstore (if you still have any nearby)

So long as I can disable it, thats all I care about. If people want to use it, go for it. But I dont want my personal desktop use to train an AI, or have it butt in like Cortana.

I get how it could be useful in certain settings but I feel like its offering help for a problem that doesnt exist most of the time. Like, do most people need generative AI to complete everyday desktop tasks?

Also this sounds like a potential privacy nightmare, even for Microsoft.

May I stress that Canadians are a terrible testing ground. We are a beaten down nation of gougees, Americans and elsewhere might not be so placid about this. (Did American netflix already crack down on password sharing?)

Also James Somerton, video essays on queer media, but other issues as well.

The only mention of what the flavour was, was this:

In research published in Nature Communications, USC Dornsife neuroscientist Emily Liman and her team found that the tongue responds to ammonium chloride through the same protein receptor that signals sour taste.

“If you live in a Scandinavian country, you will be familiar with and may like this taste,” says Liman, professor of biological sciences. In some northern European countries, salt licorice has been a popular candy at least since the early 20th century. The treat counts among its ingredients salmiak salt, or ammonium chloride.

So is this ‘mediciney’ flavour, then? (black licorish, ouzo, root beer, those weird candies they sell at ikea…)

My kid has this problem too. So many games interrupt him mid level to force ads, its ridiculous.

But we’ve found a few games that arent total popup nightmares (that he enjoys):

-Two Dots, a beautiful puzzle game, very kid friendly

-Bad Piggies - a spin off of angry birds, Physics based building/puzzle game, very cartoony and fun gameplay. My kid loves this game, probably his favourite (its older so the ads arent too obnoxious. You can pay to disable them, also)

-Stumble Guys - massive multiplayer platformer like fallguys, loves this one (there are ads but you can pay to disable for 4.99)

We have the ios equivalent to play pass and it helped a lot, too.

The marketplace has grown a lot, so it might be harder to stand out. But indie studios tend to operate in a far more sustainable way.

As long as there is a demand for games that are complete, affordable and GOOD… the indie game market will stay healthy.

Memory Block: How Saturated Fats May Hinder Memory Formation in the Aging Brain (scitechdaily.com)

A new study suggests that a high-fat diet may impair memory by causing inflammatory effects and issues in cell-signaling management in the brain cells, especially as people age, but the omega-3 fatty acid DHA may help mitigate these effects. The research, focusing on microglia and hippocampal neurons, found that palmitic acid...

Festers Quest for NES. It is an Adams Family game where you shoot alien toads with a plunger. It is a definitely, definitely not horror game, haha.

BUT, to fight bosses you have to walk through these totally empty 3D buildings, not knowing what was around the corner. So uneasy.

And when you finally do find the boss BOOM! Almost like a jump scare, similar to the Friday the 13th NES game. Totally terrifying haha.

Dead NFTs: The Evolving Landscape of the NFT Market (dappgambl.com)

TL;DR: The NFT market has drastically declined since its peak in 2021, with most NFT collections having no value.
