“No thank you, you’re smarter than I am and don’t have my best interests in mind.”

How often to you bail on a half-written post or response?

I have had a tendency since my earliest days on social media where I will get halfway or more through a response, and end up just cancelling it. Sometimes I feel like I’m just being to over the top with snark or otherwise don’t want to be that kind of person, but a lot of the time I’ll decide I just really don’t care...

I still catch myself in the process of replying to someone who is Wrong On The Internet, but for the most part I just let it go. It still bothers me, but I’ve accepted that nothing I say on a webforum is going to change any hearts or minds. Nowadays I mostly post to try and give people a cheap laugh.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

You’ve summed up the problem nicely.

I need these comics to stop being so relatable.

I think the world is ready for the hands-free toothbrush.

How often do you use "AI" to reply to your messages, if at all?

The recent chat bot advances have pretty much changed my life. I used to get anxiety by receiving mails and IMs, sometimes even from friends. I lost friendships over not replying. My main issue being that I am sometimes get completely stuck in a loop of how to formulate things in the best way to the point of just abandoning the...

Showing ChatGPT how to respond to my messages sounds like more work than just replying to them myself.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

No deal. I’m always going to assume you’re planning to fuck me in some way that’s out of proportion to any gain I might make from the exchange.

I could only take it seriously until

spoilerthe helicopter scene.

Instead of marking his territory by pissing on things, I’d prefer if he wrote his name on a post-it note.

Even better with walnuts.

Geysers. My in-laws live in a geothermal area and there are active geysers that come and go not far from their home. I don’t often spot one erupting, but it’s exciting when I do.

I’m in favour, but I also prefer Linux Mint and think it makes a good starter OS for transitioning Windows users.

Doctor Who has always been a mix of utter brilliance and painful stupidity.

And RTD likes to lampshade the things he doesn’t think fans should care about…

There’s been rumours of a UNIT spin-off for decades, though.

Once my supplies ran out, I’d be in trouble. This is a country where even trained, equipped survivalists fail to find enough calories to live off. Before the modern era most people lived on the coast and made fishing and shellfish collecting a big part of their food production.

I use a Kobo Glo with Calibre and it’s been great. Calibre will even install firmware updates for me.

The screen doesn’t really look like a page and the experience isn’t like having a physical book, but it’s been good enough for me to enjoy it.

I want to walk along the groove of an LP. Explore a human fingerprint. Juggle sugar crystals. Explore a water drop.

Exalted: “Love the setting. Hate the system.”

You must pick a point in human history before the 1950s to be spend the rest of your life in. What era and place would you choose?

You would still have the same age, gender, personality, skin color, etc. and you would be able to speak at least one local language and would know basic information of the era and place. Your family, social standing, and such would be randomly picked.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

@Deceptichum pretty sure that was because humans ate the eagles’ main food source, the giant moa, to extinction.

It was also because giant eagle eggs were a (relatively) easy source of protein.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

there would be chaos

That’s why you do it. That right there is the point.

Super speed. You’d have to slow down or die of heatstroke from air friction.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I want to know what he writer was smoking when he came up with the ‘speed force’ idea.

“Brunt! FCC!”

“Is this pinkskin diplomacy?”

“Oh my, that certainly is toxic, isn’t it?”

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Endless screaming. Just… endless.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, my alarm doesn’t have a snooze function. I’m not responsible enough for that kind of power.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I get notifications for text messages, nothing else. The phone is not the boss of me. I am the boss of the phone.

How do you fry tofu well? I’ve been following youtube videos where the cooks do a pretty good impression of having an orgasm when they taste their tofu, but mine is like deep-fried cardboard.

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Nestle. They’re our closest living example of an evil corporation run by a cartoon supervillain.

My mother-in-law’s dog had a vocabulary of over 80 words.

Are you suggesting that I lift a finger to help myself? Why, I never!

For all your travel questions related to France : VisitingFrance (jlai.lu)

When lockdowns were coming to an end, there was an influx of people asking travel related questions on r/france. Something I wish existed at that time was a francophone equivalent to r/VisitingIceland, which is an incredible resource and community when it comes to making your travel plans to Iceland....

I had a French co-worker for a while. His opinion on Paris was that the rest of France would divorce them if it was possible.

Milk tea with a pinch of tea masala. Or the simple version, a small pinch each of ginger and cardamom.

A talk show host in my country failed to keep a straight face over the name and lost his job. It’s okay though, we don’t miss him.

I work in healthcare. We have a Dr Blood, Dr Bones and Dr Slaughter. Perfect supervillain team right there.

I like it when the control room shows a trace of personality, like 9’s and 12’s.

There’s an easter egg where 10 meets 5 in the Tardis and 5 comments that 10 had changed the desktop theme. 😁

Incidentally, 10’s actor is married to 5’s actor’s daughter. Who was in an episode of modern Who titled The Doctor’s Daughter, where she played the Doctor’s daughter. Their first kid was a girl. So 10 married the Doctor’s daughter, who played the Doctor’s daughter in The Doctor’s Daughter and then gave birth to the Doctor’s daughter.

Pheasant supercollider, possibly.

Ursula Vernon’s webcomic Digger

Don’t buy the paperback version. Frickin’ spine started coming apart after one reading…
