I remember being really creeped out by The Car movie when I watched it as a kid. So much that it’s stayed with me well into adulthood. Anyone else affected the same?
When my wife and I bought our first house, I was able to clean the entire rest of the house in the time it took her to clean the wall where the previous owners had done their cooking.
I often hear science-adjacent folks stating that a tree needs to be 30 years old before it starts absorbing CO₂, usually paired with the statement that it’s therefore pointless to start planting tons of trees now for slowing climate change....
My Pathfinder group, who agree with me that to (fictionally) run screaming at people with a lit black powder bomb in my hands is the right thing to do.
Genius: the Transgression. A world of darkness fan game. I started running it in the hope I’d be able to play in a game some day. No luck. My favourite game, and I’ve never played in it.
It’s about a family which is under a curse that makes them die young. But it turns out the curse is actually just the millionaire family patriarch stealing organs from his descendants so he can live longer. And it ends with him locking himself in a panic room because his children and grandchildren form a mob to kill him. But what he doesn’t know is that his emergency supply of immunosuppressants has been removed, so he dies a painful death as his body rejects its foreign parts while they have him trapped.
For legal purposes this is not based on the life of any actual living man with too much money who pumps out kids like it’s his reason to live.
Not a remake or remaster or rerelease of something old, but something inspired or influenced by something either popular or a cult classic. Also this could extend to hardware/tech too, not only media.
It’s known that sneezing is a reflex to prevent dust or nose hairs or whatever from getting down into the lungs, but why do people and animals sometimes get hiccups? What function does that serve, and what causes them?...
I read an explanation for that, which was that hiccupping is the default mode for the muscles involved, and there’s a part of the brain that suppresses it. The 30-year hiccupper had damage to that part of the brain, so they started and never stopped.
I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...
More seriously, we tend to make it a Great Big Thing when people are wrong. If we acknowledge it and move on, and let them do the same, I’m sure admitting when we’re wrong would be much less painful.
Nowadays I find a lot of games feel like too much work and/or anxiety when I just want to relax for like, 30 minutes to an hour after a long day. On the other hand, the games specifically designed to help you unwind just feel boring imo....
Minecraft. Sky Factory 3 - a void world modpack. Nothing exists without my having created it. I can allow mobs to spawn on my platform or not, depending on how I feel.
My wife carries a fold-up nylon shopping bag in her handbag everywhere we go. Useful in a surprising number of situations.
We’ve switched from petroleum plastic to cornstarch plastic bin liners in our kitchen. They’re not as sturdy (basically they start to break down the moment they get wet) but they’re solid enough to carry a week’s cooking waste out to the big bin.
Geneva – The Israeli army’s execution of an elderly Palestinian after using him in a propaganda campaign promoting its “safe corridor” in Gaza was strongly condemned in a statement released by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor today....
For example, I 3d printed a box over my outlet to protect my cables from my bed pushing against it. In addition, my cables never fall to the floor so they’re much easier to grab.
My parents were baby boomers. When I started antidepressants I continued my policy of saying nothing to them about my personal life. It saved me a lot of trouble over the years.
There’s been some big changes in that style. The most extreme stuff got removed from the curriculum. I once got a look at a manual from the 70s, and yes - there was some disturbing eye stuff.
The Quantum Thief trilogy. Mainly because part of it takes place in Oubliette, a city whose buildings, plazas and monuments are carried across the surface of Mars by giant robots. That ought to be quite a spectacle.
When you do, don’t judge the series by the first volume. DC told Gaiman they wanted a horror series. It was only after that they loosened the reins and let him take the story where he wanted it to go.
Their health. I’ve reached the age where most of my friends have something to say about their health. It becomes a sort of one-upmanship game, where everyone has to top the person who spoke last with their afflictions. What is this, the misery olympics?
I don’t remember they guy’s name, but he was a Minecraft Youtuber who liked to shout “Let’s go!” at the end of EVERY SENTENCE HE SPOKE. I gave him ten minutes of my attention and that was being generous.
