WotC really shot themselves in the foot spawning all this new competition, didn’t they?

They can do that as often as they like. This is great!

Huh. An interrobang in the wild.

Maybe they’re just people trying to create content? AskLemmy users can have opinions on things that don’t relate to the comm.

How does this not stress you out, Americans?

Never saw it, but my parents watched a lot of crime movies that I didn’t understand. Probably for the best. I was sort of a nervous kid.

There’s a company in the UK that proposes building gravity batteries using existing shafts that were excavated for mining.

"Some random guy on YouTube said it and I trust him so it must be true "

OP is trying to fact-check what he heard, though. You could give a little more credit.

Judging by the responses you’re getting “be negative” is a rule.

That sounds like doing it the hard way.

My Pathfinder group, who agree with me that to (fictionally) run screaming at people with a lit black powder bomb in my hands is the right thing to do.

Genius: the Transgression. A world of darkness fan game. I started running it in the hope I’d be able to play in a game some day. No luck. My favourite game, and I’ve never played in it.

Maybe Stellarium? It’s an immersive astronomy teaching tool. To encourage scientific curiosity?

Definitely Notepad++. If he graduates to programming in code rather than Scratch blocks, it’ll be a useful editor with its syntax highlighting.

It’s about a family which is under a curse that makes them die young. But it turns out the curse is actually just the millionaire family patriarch stealing organs from his descendants so he can live longer. And it ends with him locking himself in a panic room because his children and grandchildren form a mob to kill him. But what he doesn’t know is that his emergency supply of immunosuppressants has been removed, so he dies a painful death as his body rejects its foreign parts while they have him trapped.

For legal purposes this is not based on the life of any actual living man with too much money who pumps out kids like it’s his reason to live.

SimEarth. Loved that game, but I want modern graphics and a better environmental model for other planets.

I read an explanation for that, which was that hiccupping is the default mode for the muscles involved, and there’s a part of the brain that suppresses it. The 30-year hiccupper had damage to that part of the brain, so they started and never stopped.

That’s a really nice stick. I wish I had a stick just like it.

spittingimage,

+9 for straightness. How often do you see a stick that straight? Not often at all.

Beer! Solves almost as many problems as it causes.

Why do most people refuse to accept that they are wrong

I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...

spittingimage,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Because I’m not! I’m not I’m not I’m not!

More seriously, we tend to make it a Great Big Thing when people are wrong. If we acknowledge it and move on, and let them do the same, I’m sure admitting when we’re wrong would be much less painful.

@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for the educated view on the topic.

My wife carries a fold-up nylon shopping bag in her handbag everywhere we go. Useful in a surprising number of situations.

We’ve switched from petroleum plastic to cornstarch plastic bin liners in our kitchen. They’re not as sturdy (basically they start to break down the moment they get wet) but they’re solid enough to carry a week’s cooking waste out to the big bin.

Don’t feel guilty. You’ve gotta protect yourself. Your job is hazardous enough.

Israeli army executes an elderly Palestinian after using him in propaganda campaign about its ‘safe corridor’ in Gaza (euromedmonitor.org)

Geneva – The Israeli army’s execution of an elderly Palestinian after using him in a propaganda campaign promoting its “safe corridor” in Gaza was strongly condemned in a statement released by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor today....

spittingimage,

They did not ‘execute’ him. We use a different word when soldiers illegally kill non-combatants in a safe zone.

So even a 70°C cup of coffee (slightly warm, almost cold) is 343 kelvin.

Not relevant to your point, but 60°C is hot enough to scald. If that cup of coffee was 70°C, I’d be careful about sipping it.

spittingimage,

There’s been some big changes in that style. The most extreme stuff got removed from the curriculum. I once got a look at a manual from the 70s, and yes - there was some disturbing eye stuff.

I sigh, shake my head, then redo the work the way I should have done it the first time.

spittingimage,

Me: “I should do it like this.”

Narrator: “But somehow he didn’t.”

Me: “It would be so much better if I had done it like I planned.”

The Quantum Thief trilogy. Mainly because part of it takes place in Oubliette, a city whose buildings, plazas and monuments are carried across the surface of Mars by giant robots. That ought to be quite a spectacle.

Their health. I’ve reached the age where most of my friends have something to say about their health. It becomes a sort of one-upmanship game, where everyone has to top the person who spoke last with their afflictions. What is this, the misery olympics?
