siipale,

This bug has been there for a long time. I hope it eventually gets fixed. I’m not sure if it’s thumbnail that’s flashing. It seems to have a good amount of detail so it could be the full picture.

siipale,

I also used to use that color for transparency. When I made something in MS Paint I set that color to where I wanted transparency so I could move it to other window with transparent selection. Nice workflow for simple pixel art but I would rather use GIMP these days.

siipale,

That’s a nice purple! I like all sorts of purples too but I couldn’t pick the one I like the most. I like anything from lavender to kind of red wine color. Not sure if they’re all even considered to be purple as they are little more red.

siipale,

Yes, the UI in Slack is more cryptic after the update. I had some difficulties with searching for messages in the new design. I think you can’t open the search results in context anymore IIRC. Also the change of color scheme. They didn’t even bother to change all the icons to match the new color or they just made the change so quickly they didn’t have time to.

I use linux for the same reason I wear fuzzy socks and sweaters

My understanding of the history of fashion is that back in the 1950s America it was expected that you wore a suit/dress at work unless you had a different uniform. There were a bunch of very boring people who thought that we should be wearing office job garb all the time, because they wore suits so much it was their default...

siipale,

Which things do you find boring and restrictive about it? I think it’s rather nice although I don’t like some of the changes after Catalina like moving from skeuomorphic icons to more symbolic ones.

Other than aesthetics I think editing and writing is fast on macOS even when not using vim. I even changed my PCs to use mac keyboard layout because it’s better. Of course when using vim, editing should work same on any system at least in theory.

siipale,

Both are spinning magnetic disks. I guess they meant the reliability aspect of the storage medium.

siipale,

I don’t know how reliable SSD is compared to magnetic but I guess they do fail too. Good thing about SSD is that it doesn’t have moving parts so at least one fewer points of failure.

siipale,

You’ll never know if you don’t go.

siipale,

That’s really nice. Too bad many features in it are not implemented. I liked that old version of MS Paint so when I got Win 7 I copied the exe from old Windows version to it.

siipale,

Well, calling someone a redditor can also be perceived as insulting so maybe they can both serve a similar function.

siipale,

Half man, half bear and half pig obviously.

siipale,

PRESSURE 30.4 inHG

Do Americans really use inches of mercury to measure air pressure? Even millimeters of mercury would feel weird for me in weather context. I’ve seen mmHg used mostly in medical and chemistry stuff. I guess it really is anything but metric for you guys.

siipale,

!rickygervais I want to see people post more Karl Pilkington stuff here

siipale,

Well, it’s certainly shorter than the table in the parent comment.

siipale,

Any idea is there anything similar available on LG webOS?

siipale,

The latter part sounds like PC speaker but the first part doesn’t. How does the first part work? Pulse width modulation to play samples or something like that?

Open sourcing the app

@kuro_neko have you ever thought about making the app open source? I’ve used Connect for a little bit and I really like it, it would be really cool if the app was open source. You practically don’t have anything to loose, as you don’t sell the app or insert ads and trackers. Lemmy is an open-source plattform, and many (if...

siipale,

That was almost two months ago and they haven’t posted anything on Lemmy since that. I hope they haven’t forgotten about Lemmy altogether. Would be nice to have at least the major bugs fixed. Or let people know whether this project is abandoned or not.

siipale,

Great! Good to know that you’re still around. The app has been very good and I hope the major bugs will eventually get fixed.

siipale,

Not sure how is it in other European countries but I associate those particular spices with Christmas. The phrase pumpkin spice didn’t use to be a thing here but now thanks to American influence and marketing people you can buy all sorts of pumpkin spice products here. Some even sell pumpkin latte to make it even more confusing.

siipale,

That cat is definitely so lute!

siipale,

and also that being based on Debian LMDE is 100% community based.

At first I read it as “completely based” and wondered whether LMDE is also red pilled.

TIL In the Hot Coffee lawsuit against McDonalds, punitive damages were given due to McDonalds intentionally overheating coffee to save money on refills (www.poolelg.com)

During the trial it was revealed that McDonald’s knew that heating their coffee to this temperature would be dangerous, but they did it anyways because it would save them money. When you serve coffee that is too hot to drink, it will take much longer for a person to drink their coffee, which means that McDonald’s will not...

siipale,

Finland is similar to US in that we have high coffee consumption and we like our drip coffee. I usually have two to three mugs (400 – 600 ml) of coffee throughout the day but I would imagine others might drink more than that. I don’t need that much in the morning. One time I had so good cortado (not sure if it was single or double shot) at a café that I had to order another one.

siipale,

Powershell seems like too much writing to do a simple thing. Is there some kind of auto-complete available?

siipale,

Same here. I am interested in stuff people talk here but it gets boring when everything is about FOSS, privacy and news. The comment threads on Reddit felt endless but here they are much shorter which I would guess is better for having an actual discussion. So Lemmy is interesting but I don’t spend much time on it.

siipale,

Have you tried to upload smaller photo? Last time I posted a photo I think I had similar error message to yours and the issue was file size. I guess few hundred kilobytes would be small enough. I’m not from lemmy.world though so it could be different issue.

Aphantasia... apparently 3% of the world has it. Any aphantasists in here, who've had success improving their condition?

10 years ago, I’d have put my ability to visualise at 0 out of 10. Practice and occasional halucinogen use has got me to 2 out of 10. It causes no end of problems in day to day life, so I’m interested to hear if anyone has tips or just experiences to share so it doesn’t feel such a lonely frustrating issue....

siipale,

My inner voice doesn’t usually change but when it does it’s a bit creepy. There’s few occurences when I have had my co-workers voice as my inner voice. It seems like it came out of nowhere (well, I was also drunk and tired) and after a while I thought I’ve had enough of his voice but it didn’t go away until much later.

siipale,

I didn’t like F Zero 99 because the controls felt different from original and it felt like there was either slight delay in steering or steering controls were too sensitive. Other than that it seemed like a good game and I would play it if the controls were nicer.

siipale,

Summit app did this at least the last time I tried (long time ago). I don’t know how it’s done in Summit. Maybe just list of popular instances or some kind of regex. But there aren’t really any rules for naming an instance so it wouldn’t match every instance.

siipale,

Not the only one. I was looking for a swiss time piece hidden somewhere on the bottle and wondered how could it be so tiny.

siipale,

I’ve heard of it too. You would need an analytical balance to get accurate measurements weighing a piece of paper. Just cut out the part you want to take an integral of, then cut out a piece of paper with known size (or cut several pieces with different sizes to get more accurate results) and weigh each of them. I guess this used to be cheaper and faster than using computers when computers were big and expensive.

siipale,

That breaks for me too. Version 1.0.150

siipale,

It does look like it’s fully loaded as far as I can tell as it shows up for about a tenth of a second before it disappears. And even if it didn’t load it would be good idea to show something instead of nothing.

siipale,

It’s very specific community and I would imagine the content suitable for it is rare so you would need many pairs of eyes to find more content. The community needs to grow much more.

I’m just lurking here occasionally (I would check it more often if the app made me pay attention to my subscriptions) and if I were to find content I might hesitate to post because maybe mods would think it’s not renaissance enough. But I’ll try to remember this community if I ever find some accidental renaissance elsewhere.

siipale,

I think I’ll buy that DLC too. Not that expensive and I really liked the Shredder’s revenge.

siipale,

Co-op weekend. I bought pikuniku last week and already played it through but this weekend I tried the co-op game and it was good. Also tried the bee simulator I bought on discount price. It wasn’t particularly good. Whereas playing Portal 2 and Crypt of the Necrodancer co-op was great.

siipale,

There’s this one playable character that doesn’t have to play on the beat but I don’t know if it’s very helpful since the enemies dance each their own way in the rhythm so you would have to pay attention to the rhythm anyway in order to attack and defend.

I like this game. Usually I don’t play a roguelike game many times because I think too much and it’s complex game anyway so it’s time consuming (I have the same problem with Civilization). This game forces you to act fast and not to think too much. And as in other roguelikes the party could stop any moment so you better keep just dancing while it lasts. It’s a bit difficult game at least for me. I have only completed the zone 1 so far.

Of course I don’t know if you would like it. If you can’t stand rhythm games at all then maybe it’s not for you, but staying on the beat is not really the difficult part of the game. The game has very nice soundtrack so it’s fun to dance around killing monsters.

siipale,

Hmm… another bug: opening this url freezes the app. Opening it in in-app-browser gives net::ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE.

siipale,

Хорошо. Теик йор апвоут.

Connect 1.0.131 Released

Hi, I wanted to get more into theme and customization improvements but a lot of great feature requests came up and I ended up just implementing those instead. I might need a better system to compile release notes soon as in the past week there have been 11 beta releases and it’s a bit tedious to go through each to compile the...

siipale,

Hi Kuro! Thanks for developing this great app. It has been very useful for former RiF user like me.

I would like to hear your opinion on the thing that has been requested for several times: function of long pressing a comment. In my opinion there should be either an option to disable long press entirely or an option to select which function it has. For example some people have requested a text selection functionality.

In addition to my initial post about this feature request I have seen two other people make posts about it, e.g. this and I’ve seen some mentions of it on other threads too so it seems I’m not the only one who needs this.

So please respond to this, Kuro. Have a nice day! :)

siipale,

This is the only way. Deal with it.

siipale,

I have requested this feature before. Either an option to select an alternate function for long press or an option to disable long press entirely. I tend to scroll slow so I often hide some comments even if I didn’t mean to.

A Tribute to Bram Moolenaar, The Maestro Behind Vim Code Editor (stackdiary.com)

Bram Moolenaar, the creator of the widely respected Vim code editor, has passed away at the age of 62. The family announced his passing in a heartfelt Google Groups message on August 5, revealing a sudden progression of a medical condition that had afflicted him.

siipale,

No, I haven’t. I looked up a video of it and the fighting reminds me of TMNT arcade games which I like. I might give it a try some day.
